Suddenly a shot rang out! Yes i stole that. I’m visiting my best friend this weekend, she needs help sewing a coat so i came up today. She cut out the pattern then left to go to church with her husband leaving me with the pattern pieces and fabric. Being the careful seamstress that i am i looked at the instructions to lay out all the pieces before i began cutting. There was a front, a gusset, an upper and lower sleeve, side panel and back, i picked up the last big piece of tissue paper, it wasn’t the back. The back wasn’t there. Her daughter came over from the couch to help me look for it, in the pattern pieces, the pattern envelope. We got crumpled pieces out of the garbage, no back. I wondered if the pattern company had forgotten to put it in, then i remembered she had held the back up to her to measure it.

At this point i became convinced i had somehow lost the pattern piece and would have to leave not just her house but the country and berated myself for not learning Portuguese before having to move to  Brazil.

Her daughter remained optimistic, with ideas and scenarios, “Maybe it fell on the floor when mom was carrying it over here.” So we started looking under things, she picked up the couch and i checked, no pattern piece. She found another piece of crumpled  up tissue paper the cat has been playing with and started to uncrumple it. “This isn’t it, too thin.” I stood next to her as the 9 became visible, “That’s it, that’s the pattern piece. Go get the iron and ironing board.”

Piece found, ironed out, and placed on the fabric. Now we can drink banana smoothies and laugh at ourselves.

Upstate

I spent Saturday night at my old place. I used to rage against people who said I lived upstate, “I don’t live upstate, I live in the Hudson Valley.” Saturday when Em was in the city and the Greenpeace guy was asking us for money, the first question they always ask is “Where are you from?” Em answers, “Upstate.” So ….

I slept in my old bedroom, except it wasn’t my old bedroom. The bed was where my sewing machine used to be, they actually turned the two rooms into one, so there is a sleeping area and a sitting area, so Sarah can have a friend over. Em got corn and roasted it on the grill. It was so good, but I was sick, I am still sick. Blech.

Yankees lost on Sunday, CC went on the DL, I told Alex, “The Yankees are doomed, that means no more half-price Papa John’s.” His reply was they better start winning again because he wants his pizza!

So my head is going to explode anytime now. I should post the rest of my pictures before that happens.

This was an acoustic show. Meaning no band, just him and two friends with guitars. The proceeds from this concert benefited his charity “Sidewalk Angels“. Mari even came on stage to tell a little about it and thank everyone for, in effect, donating. This is also not the first time I have seen Rob Thomas, and the reason this is not on the review blog is because I am not reviewing his show.

Instead I am writing about the experience. I went up to Em’s on Friday and we drove out to the concert. I had a migraine starting Wednesday and was still feeling it Friday even after I stayed home Thursday (I had originally planned to go to work on Thursday). Despite this I made it to the train I wanted to catch, I was even early and very proud of myself. The only thing was, since I was getting on at 125th, and I never know which direction is which, I mean I had an idea but I wasn’t sure, so I got on the front of the train instead of the back and so got off in Beacon on the wrong end of the train. Not really a problem, just confused Tigger who was waiting for me and didn’t see me come out with the rest of the people.

Fast forward to the concert, which we got lost driving to (a couple of times), and as we were sitting there Em told me that a co-worker made her feel old by saying Billy Joel is washed up, or a has been or something like that. After I scoffed at that I was looking around the arena and saw a banner hanging up, “Billy Joel” with a big 10 under his name, and under that “sold out shows in a row. A New England record. Or it was at the time. I pointed it out to Em, she read the dates “from May to July 2008”, well that was 3 years ago she remarked with a smirk. He broke a record set in 1987. Washed up my a__.

In the Spring of 2008, Billy Joel performed 10 sold-out shows at Mohegan Sun, and set several attendance records.

On the entertainment side, the biggest thing in the casino business, for this property and for me, was Billy Joel. It was the biggest deal I have ever been involved in. Dennis Arfa (Joel’s booking agent since 1976) and I go back years. I would always approach Dennis–from when I was in Atlantic City until I came up to New England—and ask, “How can I get Billy Joel to do a casino?” It never happened. One day, Dennis and I were having a friendly lunch and, of course, I brought the subject up again. The idea of breaking a (casino) record intrigued Billy and it intrigued us as well. We did 10 sold-out shows in a row. He sold out every show instantly. That, to me, is one of the great casino entertainment stories.

The concert was nice, Rob making his little comments, forgetting the words to a song (not his own, “Save the Last Dance”) and getting them from someone’s iPhone, then tossing it back to them (OOPS).

Then we drove home, only getting turned around once this time. The next morning I went home and that was an adventure.

First was getting to the train station, first thing was, since it was New Year’s Eve day, I wanted to get home as soon as possible, before everyone and his brother started going down to the city. I was up to late for Tigger, D wanted to get the car looked at, Em convinced him to wait for me to eat breakfast. I caught the 10:57 out of Beacon.

When I got to 125th Street I had to pee but the bathroom door was locked. Since I was going home I decided to just wait till I got there and hiked down to the #6 train. I swiped my card, and went nowhere. A 30 day MetroCard is just that, 30 days not a month. So I had to go get a new MetroCard, then I went down, I was determined to not get on the express like the last time but I hesitated on the first platform, “Uptown and the Bronx”. If I was at GCT that is the train I would take, but I was in Harlem, I ran down to the next platform as the doors were closing on the train. So I had to wait and I had to pee, not a good combination. I hate running in my apartment when I have to pee, that’s usually when I forget to lock my door and then I’m in the bathroom wondering if I locked the door or not.

The issue with the MetroCard meant I didn’t go shopping. That turned out to be good because by waiting until today the dress I wanted was 50% off.

Back at work

After almost a week off and after getting too much sun the day before, I did not enjoy going back to work today. I did it, with my swollen eyes and pale face and I lasted the entire day.

The kids gave Em here iPhone today. She started playing Words with Friends. I would never have thought she would have done it, she doesn’t like games. But she started a game with me, and Gwen and D. It is kind of scary.

Time to sign off, see everyone tomorrow.

Another Saturday at play

In the city today, Em is in Vermont so I was all alone, I was going to tweet to see if any of my followers was watching the game in the city and could I join them, then I checked the game time, 9:00 p.m. There went that idea. Then I got in a mini fight with Em (she later blamed it on her husband, I’m cool with that). While in the city I got a Russell Martin shirt for Em’s husband and a shirt with “27 reasons not to be Red Sox fan” for Tuesday’s game.

Ashley checked my ear for me, the new piercing is healing fine and she told me what to do with the one that was bleeding. I was planning on going for tea and to a store I had a groupon for. My mood was entirely ruined for that before I left Ashley’s so I left NoHo and headed up to Grand Central Terminal.

Thinking I should come home I asked Stitch why he told his mom I was mad at them. He said he didn’t and then said “You don’t have to come home.” I was already up at Grand Central so I couldn’t go to the clothing store I had a Groupon for so I just started walking. I found a street fair and walked the whole length of it and back. I bought a hat, a necklace, some magnets, earrings and a watch that didn’t work. Then I stopped at a bar to have a beer, or two. I might go back there sometime if I need to watch the game when I’m in the city.

By the time I got home, the game was 20 minutes old. Big Stoppa was pitching. I thought Em wanted me to tweet game details, then she said she was following it on her iPad. So what the heck did she need me for? So I just tweeted spectacular facts about the game. But I think she didn’t get them because of all the other tweets she was getting.

Topic #123:

Topic #123: Pick a blog or blog post you enjoy and write a post about it.

This is a blog I enjoy, This Space For Rent Call 1-800-BITE ME, this is the Blogger that turned me on to “Postaday2011”. We encourage each other, well, she encourages me, I don’t know if I encourage her but I try.

My first introduction to Stacey was on Twitter, when I got put on lists of Yankee fans, then I followed her links to her blog. It is a mix of things, she writes about being bipolar, being a Yankee fan (like me!), sometimes she posts fiction she has written, sometime a collection of random thoughts. It’s always interesting.

My interest in reading about being bipolar is personal, my best friend in the whole wide world has two children who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and so I like to read about other people with the same disorder, perhaps in the hope that I can be a better ‘Auntie’ to her kids. Stacey’s blog is very helpful because she is very honest in it. She is very brave to put herself out there like that. I hope someday we get to meet. Except a part of me is afraid she won’t like me. There is my little insecurity showing.

So check out her blog, and that’s all, says she.

More on Saturday

Saturday was good, and it was beautiful day. I was just so tired yesterday, and I had to write a blog post about the Yankee game and a review post about Yorkville Crêperie where we had lunch Saturday. So I actually did post more then just the pictures Sunday, but I wanted to come back and talk about the day. We started with lunch, during which Em decided she needs to make her nail appointment either early in the day or last thing before we leave. While she was getting her nails done I decided to get a pedicure. I forgot to tell her to use my lotion, an oversight I regretted later, but I’ll get to that later.

After the nail appointment, Em was going to a store she didn’t want me to come in with her (adult toy store). She said she was afraid I would giggle and get us thrown out. Probably would have. So I went to the park (Central Park) to wait for her. While I was waiting there were some men putting on a show. Then Em sent me a text and I went to meet her, then we cut through the park. Spring is in the air, I started sneezing. So we had to leave the park, later as we were walking on the sidewalk past the park, my nose started itching. I hate allergies.

Later when I took my socks and shoes off, I really hated them. I had a rash from the lotion. Nasty red bumps that itched. I don’t normally worry about the lotion, normally I am wearing sandals, but that day I had socks and sneakers on, so the lotion really got rubbed in, and I had shaved my legs in the past week or two. Sometimes, it is really hard being a girl.

And that is all, says she.

Nasty rainy Wednesday

It’s been said that a bad day at golf is better then a good day at work. Today would have been a very bad day at golf. It was raining and nasty, cold too. So was it better for me then going to work? Well lets see ….

Lunch was at 12:30 p.m. so I had to get up at 11:00 a.m., so I could go get a latte from the coffee shop. Then I got a free lunch at Panera. I was home when the UPS guy delivered my new Yankee jacket that I ordered from the MLB store, but it was nasty and rainy!

The afternoon was a series of frustrations. While at lunch I got hummus on my shirt so I had to wash it when I got home. Yes even me, the gigantic slob, know you have to wash your clothes when you get food on them. So I got some clothes together and put them in the washer. I started straightening up my room, actually I was looking for something. Anyway, …..

First Fred called, he wanted me to come get him at Ron’s and ‘bring money’. So I did that, of course it wasn’t a quick trip because he wanted ice cream from Ron’s, and not just a quick cone of ice cream, it had to be something that had to be made. When I got home I put my ice cream in the freezer because I had clothes to take care of. First I had to put my dry clothes away, then hang up the wet clothes.

As I started to put away clothes I got a text from Gwen, she needed someone to take her to the laundrymat to dry the towels. So I did that, of course I couldn’t just drop her off, I had to stay with her.

When I finally got home and got done, I got my ice cream out of the freezer to eat it. Of course by then it was dinner time so I got a glare from Em for eating ice cream instead of ‘real food’. I didn’t let it bother me. Would you?

And that’s all, says she. 😛

Once again I have a Wednesday off where I didn’t get to do what I wanted to do. Well, I managed to get a work-out in, and for that my legs are now killing me, which tells me I need to do this more often.

So lets run through my day, first I got up earlier then I wanted to drive Tigger to school. Then I stopped at Panera to get breakfast and do some blogging with my iPod. My mistake here was checking into Facebook, which let Tigger know where I was, which led him to send me a message asking for him to bring him food from Panera. Which I did, but it took longer then I wanted because there was an accident on Route 9 that had two lanes shut down. Then I came home, got my stuff together and went to Allsport, had a nice workout and shower. Felt good!

My plan was then to go to the library and go online. But the library I went to doesn’t have wifi. The reason I wanted to go online at the library was I knew I wouldn’t be interrupted at the library. Which happened when I came home. I feel like I am an evil person if I send Gwen away even though she says she doesn’t mind. But she is so BORED!! So I put Sims in the computer, but before we could play any Tigger sends me a text message that he needs to be picked up.

After I got home I once again sat down to come online and once again was interrupted, this time to go to the grocery store for Em. And now that I am here, all I can remember of what I was going to say is …. nothing.

And that’s all, says she.

Stop drilling in my sinuses? How do I know it’s a little man? Because a big man wouldn’t fit. And the drilling? Well that’s what it feels like.

In other news, I still can’t find my brand of Tampons in the store. Yes I’m a bloody mess, just deal with it. Today I needed something. Last time I got Kotex, in the black box with the multicolored applicator’s. I give them 0 stars. I will not be using anymore, I do not recommend them. When I was cleaning things recently I scrounged around and managed to find two tampons of the brand I prefer. However I did have to get some more. Its either find another brand I like, or start using pads. *shudder* Today I was getting confused by all the boxes, so I just bought the Target brand. I would say I’ll keep you posted, but I’m not sure that’s what you want.

Em is also sick today, she thinks she has a fever. She didn’t feel warm to me, but then what do I know?

Thursday is opening day, can’t wait!!!

Last night as I was sitting in bed and looking at my laptop, I came to a decision. As much as I have committed to posting every day, my health is more important. Since I can never just come online and type my blog post and then leave, when I am feeling tired and head-achy and generally not well, I am not posting. Sorry WordPress. I am going to try to make sure the number is kept up. A feat that will be much more difficult once baseball starts this Thursday since I will then be blogging about the games on my other blog. But I am still going to make the effort. I anticipate these blog posts will become much shorter.

And that’s all, she says.
