Suddenly a shot rang out! Yes i stole that. I’m visiting my best friend this weekend, she needs help sewing a coat so i came up today. She cut out the pattern then left to go to church with her husband leaving me with the pattern pieces and fabric. Being the careful seamstress that i am i looked at the instructions to lay out all the pieces before i began cutting. There was a front, a gusset, an upper and lower sleeve, side panel and back, i picked up the last big piece of tissue paper, it wasn’t the back. The back wasn’t there. Her daughter came over from the couch to help me look for it, in the pattern pieces, the pattern envelope. We got crumpled pieces out of the garbage, no back. I wondered if the pattern company had forgotten to put it in, then i remembered she had held the back up to her to measure it.

At this point i became convinced i had somehow lost the pattern piece and would have to leave not just her house but the country and berated myself for not learning Portuguese before having to move to  Brazil.

Her daughter remained optimistic, with ideas and scenarios, “Maybe it fell on the floor when mom was carrying it over here.” So we started looking under things, she picked up the couch and i checked, no pattern piece. She found another piece of crumpled  up tissue paper the cat has been playing with and started to uncrumple it. “This isn’t it, too thin.” I stood next to her as the 9 became visible, “That’s it, that’s the pattern piece. Go get the iron and ironing board.”

Piece found, ironed out, and placed on the fabric. Now we can drink banana smoothies and laugh at ourselves.

Babysitting upstate

Not really babysitting since the girl is 25, she had surgery on her sinuses on Monday and so needs someone here to make sure she is o.k. I also helped her with her sinus rinse since I am somewhat of a pro at them. After she did it, her exact words: “Oh my goodness! My nose feels so good!” She is not allowed to actually blow her nose so all the blood and other gunk just sits there. The sinus rinse clears it out as well as moisturizes her mucus membranes. I can imagine it is a wonderful feeling to get all that out of there.

For a while we weren’t able to get online. I thought my old laptop, which is now hers, had the connection to the router here saved, apparently the password has been changed. Then the hotspot on my phone wouldn’t work and I couldn’t connect through her phone’s hotspot. I sent a couple of angry texts to the boy. I always blame him for everything. Now we are online through the router instead of my phone. I just reset it and we were connected and eating up my data, for some reason the hotspot want to use cellular data not the house wifi, yes my phone and iPad were working through the wifi even though I couldn’t connect through my laptop.

After all that, I couldn’t remember what I wanted to write here. It was brilliant though.

The young male cat here has been avoiding me since I got here. For some reason he is afraid of me.

I was banished to the basement, the girl was sleeping where I normally sleep when I come and so I had to sleep in her room. My biggest complaint about sleeping in her room is the mad parrot in her room that hates me. It’s not personal she hates everyone except the girl.

And that is the end of today’s updates. Talk to you soon.

Coney Island

Sarah started sending me texts, wait I need to backtrack, the last time Sarah came to visit she said she wanted to spend more time in the City, I guess this is her plan. So she starts sending me texts about a Groupon for Luna Park in Coney Island, a 4-hour wristband and ride on the Cyclone. So I said sure, not realizing she meant this weekend. All right then, so she comes down Saturday to spend the night and Sunday we get on the subway to go to Coney Island. The first thing we did was ride the Cyclone.

Sarah wanted to go on the water ride. I didn’t it was a cold day and I was freezing, not literally freezing you understand, but cold enough that I didn’t want to go on a water ride. She decided she didn’t need me to go with her. I took a video of her on the ride, well what was I supposed to do?

After going on a few, HIGH THRILL rides, Sarah decided she wanted to go on the Wonder Wheel when she saw the cars don’t just go around they move inside the wheel. So we went up, this next video was shot by me holding my phone up against the side of the car. It looks like the ground is moving but it is the car moving.

We had a great time, we took one break so I could have a beer and Sarah got a slice of pizza and some cotton candy. At the end of the day we went to Tom’s Diner. Nice place, I had the fattest BLT I have ever seen.

Upstate

I spent Saturday night at my old place. I used to rage against people who said I lived upstate, “I don’t live upstate, I live in the Hudson Valley.” Saturday when Em was in the city and the Greenpeace guy was asking us for money, the first question they always ask is “Where are you from?” Em answers, “Upstate.” So ….

I slept in my old bedroom, except it wasn’t my old bedroom. The bed was where my sewing machine used to be, they actually turned the two rooms into one, so there is a sleeping area and a sitting area, so Sarah can have a friend over. Em got corn and roasted it on the grill. It was so good, but I was sick, I am still sick. Blech.

Yankees lost on Sunday, CC went on the DL, I told Alex, “The Yankees are doomed, that means no more half-price Papa John’s.” His reply was they better start winning again because he wants his pizza!

So my head is going to explode anytime now. I should post the rest of my pictures before that happens.

Toxic Waste

This candy is at Dylan’s Candy Bar. The first time I saw it I didn’t buy any, but I thought of a little boy (almost 25) who would like it. Today I had to go up to the Hudson Valley for services for a friend who died. So I went to Dylan’s last night so I could get all the kids some candy. For Stitch I got Nerds rope, I got Sweetarts, root beer barrels, and jolly ranchers. Of course they didn’t really need all that candy, but I like getting it for them. Since I don’t live there anymore it makes a treat for them, that is the way I feel about it. Not only that but it’s hard to find the Nerds rope and Stitch really really like them. He also likes sour candy.

When I picked up the candy, I noticed there was a warning on the candy, I had never seen that. When I gave to Stitch, I had actually decided I wanted to keep them but he wouldn’t let go of the can. He ate one, then gave one to me. As I was leaving he said, “I need to give my mouth a break.” I asked him how many he had eaten. He grinned, “3”. Yes, he really loves sour candy.

Back at work

After almost a week off and after getting too much sun the day before, I did not enjoy going back to work today. I did it, with my swollen eyes and pale face and I lasted the entire day.

The kids gave Em here iPhone today. She started playing Words with Friends. I would never have thought she would have done it, she doesn’t like games. But she started a game with me, and Gwen and D. It is kind of scary.

Time to sign off, see everyone tomorrow.

Last Friday Gwen and I went bike riding in Central Park. It would be more accurate to say we started in Central Park, since we did ride through the city a little bit, mainly to get refreshments. We started off at Tavern on the Green, even though it’s permanently closed the building is still there, and headed down the bike paths. All the road going through Central Park are one way and along the road to Belvedere Castle there is a cat that watches you.

Knowing where the Castle is located is important, the bathrooms are to the left of the Castle. When we got to the north end of the park we went out of the Park to find a place called Screme, we had a Groupon for two free drinks. On the way there Gwen’s seat slipped, we went through a traffic circle, I almost got taken out by a cab and we had to go around two double parked cars. I resisted the urge to yell at the stupid double parked people. At Screme, I got a coffee gelato drink and Gwen got passion-fruit. They were good, but very thick and the straws were very skinny.

Unfortunately the place didn’t have a bathroom and I needed one. Since we also needed lunch we went across the street, there was a Peruvian Restaurant, too much seafood, a sushi bar, same problem, and then an Italian Restaurant. So we went in the Italian Restaurant. I don’t know what it is about restaurants in the city, but some seem to want to cram as many table in as physically possible so there is almost no room for customers.

I got a Panini and Gwen got lasagna. Then we went back to the park, when we got back to Tavern on the Green, Gwen wanted to turn the bikes in, even though it was only 3:00. After that we just kind of walked around. Got ice cream at a truck, I bought a couple half-price books at the Strand. Then we came home. That was pretty much our day. Topic #123:

Topic #123: Pick a blog or blog post you enjoy and write a post about it.

This is a blog I enjoy, This Space For Rent Call 1-800-BITE ME, this is the Blogger that turned me on to “Postaday2011”. We encourage each other, well, she encourages me, I don’t know if I encourage her but I try.

My first introduction to Stacey was on Twitter, when I got put on lists of Yankee fans, then I followed her links to her blog. It is a mix of things, she writes about being bipolar, being a Yankee fan (like me!), sometimes she posts fiction she has written, sometime a collection of random thoughts. It’s always interesting.

My interest in reading about being bipolar is personal, my best friend in the whole wide world has two children who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and so I like to read about other people with the same disorder, perhaps in the hope that I can be a better ‘Auntie’ to her kids. Stacey’s blog is very helpful because she is very honest in it. She is very brave to put herself out there like that. I hope someday we get to meet. Except a part of me is afraid she won’t like me. There is my little insecurity showing.

So check out her blog, and that’s all, says she.

Nasty rainy Wednesday

It’s been said that a bad day at golf is better then a good day at work. Today would have been a very bad day at golf. It was raining and nasty, cold too. So was it better for me then going to work? Well lets see ….

Lunch was at 12:30 p.m. so I had to get up at 11:00 a.m., so I could go get a latte from the coffee shop. Then I got a free lunch at Panera. I was home when the UPS guy delivered my new Yankee jacket that I ordered from the MLB store, but it was nasty and rainy!

The afternoon was a series of frustrations. While at lunch I got hummus on my shirt so I had to wash it when I got home. Yes even me, the gigantic slob, know you have to wash your clothes when you get food on them. So I got some clothes together and put them in the washer. I started straightening up my room, actually I was looking for something. Anyway, …..

First Fred called, he wanted me to come get him at Ron’s and ‘bring money’. So I did that, of course it wasn’t a quick trip because he wanted ice cream from Ron’s, and not just a quick cone of ice cream, it had to be something that had to be made. When I got home I put my ice cream in the freezer because I had clothes to take care of. First I had to put my dry clothes away, then hang up the wet clothes.

As I started to put away clothes I got a text from Gwen, she needed someone to take her to the laundrymat to dry the towels. So I did that, of course I couldn’t just drop her off, I had to stay with her.

When I finally got home and got done, I got my ice cream out of the freezer to eat it. Of course by then it was dinner time so I got a glare from Em for eating ice cream instead of ‘real food’. I didn’t let it bother me. Would you?

And that’s all, says she. 😛

A work of art

New York State has an inspection program, all vehicles registered in New York have to have a safety inspection and an emissions inspection every 12 months. My car is due for its inspection in April. A fact I was reminded of when I went through a check point on Tuesday. I went through it twice once on the way to my doctor and then on the way back. I guess the police in my town don’t have anything better to do on Tuesday afternoon.

During the winter, a snow plow broke my driver’s side mirror. This would cause my car to fail the inspection. I had told the boy to take car of it, and he didn’t, so this week I was scrambling to find a mirror. There were mirrors available online but I was worried I wouldn’t get in time. So I called the local auto parts store, they said they could get it, to be delivered to their store the next day.

The boys went to get it since the store closes before I get home. I got a text from Stitch, “The mirror is black not silver hahahaha”. There was no way I could get another one before the end of the month. His response to that was “Ok. So itll just look funny. Very funny. Lol funny.” “Gives the car spunkiness”

So the car is now unique, I was driving with Gwen and going “It’s black! It’s black!” She grinned at me. “Amy says she is a work of art.” Good way to look at it.

And that’s all, says she.
