Just the scribblings of an opinionated semi-sane New Yorker, well if you consider 90% insanity to be semi sane. I ditched the boyfriend. If you like my blog, please like my page on Facebook. See link in the right sidebar.
Hey there! Thanks for dropping by just a city girl! Take a look around and grab the RSS feed to stay updated. See you around!
Sarah started sending me texts, wait I need to backtrack, the last time Sarah came to visit she said she wanted to spend more time in the City, I guess this is her plan. So she starts sending me texts about a Groupon for Luna Park in Coney Island, a 4-hour wristband and ride on the Cyclone. So I said sure, not realizing she meant this weekend. All right then, so she comes down Saturday to spend the night and Sunday we get on the subway to go to Coney Island. The first thing we did was ride the Cyclone.
Sarah wanted to go on the water ride. I didn’t it was a cold day and I was freezing, not literally freezing you understand, but cold enough that I didn’t want to go on a water ride. She decided she didn’t need me to go with her. I took a video of her on the ride, well what was I supposed to do?
After going on a few, HIGH THRILL rides, Sarah decided she wanted to go on the Wonder Wheel when she saw the cars don’t just go around they move inside the wheel. So we went up, this next video was shot by me holding my phone up against the side of the car. It looks like the ground is moving but it is the car moving.
We had a great time, we took one break so I could have a beer and Sarah got a slice of pizza and some cotton candy. At the end of the day we went to Tom’s Diner. Nice place, I had the fattest BLT I have ever seen.
This morning I overslept. Not bad, but I was 30 minutes late. I really didn’t want to go into work, but I dragged myself out of bed and came in. I had two meetings today, one I forgot about until I got in and saw the e-mail. Our new regional director wants to get to know everyone. I believe the polite expression is, stuff and bother. Anyway, since I had to spend time in meetings I didn’t get to the work that piled up that lately I have been able to start whittling away at.
Also, I was updating one of my reports, and saving it to the H drive like I have been instructed, and it wouldn’t save. Then I got an error and the document closed, without my changes being saved. [insert bad word here] So when I went to the first meeting I was cranky, and then they were were just talking and talking and my head started to hurt.
And Asurion called, to see if I was enjoying my new replacement phone. So I called them and told them, No I’m not I had to return it to you, I included a letter with the details because no one returned my call. I didn’t tell them, you better get your shit together because I am ****ing angry, I am keeping my eye on you, like Sting.
There a few reasons for my statement in my last post:
Do I think this will change things in the U.S. and abroad? No not really, terrorism is still out there,
On May 1, 1945 Germany announced the Adolf Hitler was dead, he actually committed suicide the day before. While many may say he was not a terrorist, he was a dictator, he is considered by many to be the embodiment of evil and is responsible for the death of millions of innocent people, just because they didn’t fit his requirements to be a part of the perfect race. Today we have Neo-nazis, who may not have the same ideals as Hitler, they do much to spread hatred, racism and fear.
One could consider Hitler to be a state sponsored terrorist, much like the Fatah of the PLO who were responsible for the murder of the athletes of the Israeli 1972 Olympic Team in Munich. Do you remember this image? I remember seeing this, I remember being horrified by what happened. When it was over, 11 Israelis and a German policemnan were dead. Five terrorists were killed and three were captured and held in Germany. A month and a half later Palestinian terrorists hijacked a Lufthansa jet and demanded the 3 terrorists be released. Germany complied.
Despite Mossad assuming the responsibility to hunt down kill those responsible for the terrorist attack, one of the leaders, Abu Daoud, remains at large, he even wrote a book titled “Memoirs of a Palestinian Terrorist,” as well as, “Palestine — A History of the Resistance Movement, by the Sole Survivor of Black September.” For which he was awarded the Palestine Prize for Culture in 1999 for his book.
On February 26, 1993, an explosion occurred in the World Trade Center. The explosion caused six deaths, 1,042 injuries, and nearly $600 million in property damage. Middle Eastern terrorism had arrived on American soil delivered by a small band of terrorists that scurried away from the scene unnoticed, later to be identified as Islamic fundamentalists. The leader’s plan was to collapse one of the towers, and he thought/hoped the debris from that tower would knock down the other tower.
April 19, 1995 marked the arrival of homegrown terrorism with the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City. Timothy McVeigh was the kid next door. The bomb exploded with enough force to shatter one third of the seven-story structure to bits and lifted pedestrians off the ground. One hundred and sixty eight people were killed, more then five hundred were wounded.
And then we have the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001. One of those dates where almost everyone remembers where they were. My friend’s husband saw a plane flying south down the Hudson, he thought it was weird, there normally aren’t planes flying there. My future boss came around the corner in the office and said, ‘The World Trade Center just got bombed.’ I went and looked at the T.V. in his bosses office, then ran to call my mother. I found a report that 2,752 men, women and children died at the World Trade Center. I’m not sure how accurate that is. Although I certainly knew what terrorism was I am not sure I had heard of Al Qaeda before this, now it is definitely a familiar name.
So even if the death of bin Laden affects Al Qaeda, lessening its power, there were terrorist before, there will continue to be terrorists.
My life, work, Manhattan on weekends and baseball. Whenever possible. Maybe I can’t come up with anything new and fresh to say because my obsession has surfaced with the beginning of April and all I can think of is, “Are the Yankees going to make to the post-season?”
Does it make me a hypocrite to tell people, “Calm down, it’s only April.” While in the back of my head I am thinking, “If these guys don’t start winning more games …. ” Deep breath, deep breath.
On another topic, last night Gwen was looking at apartments (for me) on-line. Every time she steps in my room her eyes light up with the thoughts of what she is going to do when it is her room. And she talks constantly about it. She is driving me crazy.
Sometimes, I hate everybody in this house.
This is my new favorite E*Trade commercial. If I had money to invest, I would probably do it with E*Trade.
Last Friday an Egyptian Cobra escaped from the Bronz Zoo. Well not actually from the zoo, from the place its supposed to be in the Reptile house and is hiding somewhere in the Reptile house, according to zoo officials. The first thing that happened is the ‘snake’ signed up for twitter.
The fact that it has a Twitter account has turned this seemingly insignificant escape into international news. Both my boss and myself say it online on news sites from other countries.
It started me thinking about other events in my lifetime, significant events, ones that happened before twitter and wonder what would have happened if we had twitter then.
Can you imagine how quickly the news of John Lennon’s assassination would have spread around the world? As it was Howard Cosell interrupted Monday Night Football to announce it. Or more recently, can you imagine the reaction if Twitter had been around on September 11, 2001? I think that about 0.1 second after the first tower went down, so would have Twitter. Then when everybody switched to Facebook, that would have crashed next. Of course this is just speculation on my part, you may or may not agree. Something to ponder.
For a while now I have been using two different blogging, sites, services, formats? I don’t really know what else to call it. I’ve been blogging here and on WordPress trying to decide which one I like better. For a while I was staying here because WordPress won’t play my slideshow from Picasa.
It does however play videos from YouTube and I just discovered how to make a ‘movie’ from my pictures in Picasa.
That was the deciding factor, now I can begin the process of moving this blog to WordPress. I have actually started blogging there, same address, just put in WordPress instead of Blogspot. I don’t think they have a follow feature there, but you can subscribe by e-mail.
