New Year’s Resolutions

This is the time of year that many people make resolutions. I do not make New Year’s Resolutions. They usually involve bettering yourself or being a better person and I think that is something one should do all the time, not just resolve to do it on New Year’s Day.

However, if I was going to make New Year’s Resolutions, here are two I would make.

  1. Be on time for work. Or rather, try harder to be on time for work. I know that if I say ‘be on time’ and I’m not, I will just give up. This is something that is a life long problem for me. And it is cyclical. To be on time I have to get up earlier, to get up earlier I have to go to bed earlier, I have to remember to shower the night before. Which means getting off the computer before it is 1 or 2 in the morning.
  2. Lose weight. Which I have been trying to do for a while, I am on Weight Watchers (for the third time) and I know what I have to do, I just have to DO IT.

Even though I didn’t make a resolution, these are two things I am working on this year.

Back to WW

Em gave me the location of the nearest Weight Watchers meeting, tonight I finally went to one. The last time I was at a WW meeting was July 16. In the time between then and now, I only gained 0.4 lbs. My new leader said that was actually a good thing. She started the meeting asking us, “Have you ever asked yourself, ‘Why am I here?'” Well I know why I’m there, cause WW works. Then she asked for reasons to lose weight, everybody came up with good ones, and she handed out this sheet.

25 Reasons to Lose Weight

  1. Be & feel healthier in general.
  2. See specific health issues improve, i.e. cholesterol, joint pain.
  3. Sleep better
  4. Have more energy
  5. Wear smaller size.
  6. Keep up with younger family & friends.
  7. Be a role model for younger & older overweight people.
  8. Feel a sense of control over a very challenging part of one’s life.
  9. Feeling young in mind, body & spirit. Still feeling sexually attractive.
  10. Be able to climb up & down stairs in case of emergency.
  11. Not embarrassed by your size.
  12. Running into old friends as your thinner self.
  13. Able to be independent as one ages – able to get in & out of a bathtub.
  14. Success in one area i.e. weight loss can motivate one to succeed in other areas.
  15. Pride in one’s achievement of weight loss – higher self exteem.
  16. Pride in achieving Lifetime Status & keeping the weight off.
  17. Overcoming the stigma of being overweight, recognizing one’s “new” self.
  18. Going to one’s high school or college reunion without excess weight.
  19. Learning how to eat out in moderation, enjoying the company more than the food.
  20. Having the motivation & energy to try new things, maybe go back to school, start a new career, follow a passion.
  21. Avoiding the challenges of aging & weight – i.e. hip & knee replacements.
  22. Able to climb a ladder to change a ceiling light bulb or hand curtains, etc.
  23. Able to sit comfortably in an airplane or theatre seat.
  24. Take up a sport i.e. ice skating, swimming, joining a gym, etc.
  25. Learning how to control food addictions, trigger foods, etc.

Now to start back tracking, eating more fruits and vegetables and less potato chips. And drink more water. Gotta get the weight down.

Topic #144:

Make a top ten list of things to do this summer. And if you are somewhere in the world where the seasons are different, make a top ten list of things you want to do next season.

1. Go to all the Saturday Yankee Games.
2. Go see the Staten Island Yankees play at Dutchess Stadium.
3. Start looking at apartments in Manhattan.
4. Read more books.
5. Get my Beth Israel hospital bill settled.
6. Get my insurance claim with EVIL Asurion settled.
7. Lose 5 pounds.
8. Exercise more
9. Go swimming.
10. Post everyday.

I noticed that this is not a ‘things you want to get done’ or goals, just things to do this summer. More on the line of summer activities. At least that is how I took it.

Weight Watchers Progress

Just a quick update:
Starting Weight: 142.8
Current Weight: 136
Goal Weight: 115
Weight loss: 6.8

Not at my 5%, which I reached previously and because I went ‘off program’ as they say, I went back up. However, I am still below 140, almost to 135 and have lost more then 5 lbs. It’s progress, I’ll take it.

Since I switched to WordPress I haven’t been blogging much, although I have been around. I have been going through old posts and cleaning them up. I noticed that the titles and first space in the post now had a > and I have been going through posts and taking it out. I had no idea how long that would take with 1,200 posts. I was working on it for two solid days and still had over a thousand posts to go.

So then I started just redoing the ones with pictures, cause the importing caused the pictures to get a little whacked out. Not formatted right and in some cases not there, I had to find them on my passport and reinsert them. Even doing that I still am only to August 2008.

Something else I am doing is moving my poems to my craft blog and my reviews to my review blog. The poem posts are being deleted but the review posts normally have more in them then just the review, so now I have duplicate review posts. I sometimes wonder why I am going to all this trouble when most people are not going to be reading the old posts (except for my freaky stalker person). The answer of course if because I have a compulsion, my posts have to look the way I want them to. That is all.

Another thing I was reminded of when I was reading my old posts was why I started this blog. I wanted a place to talk about my weight watchers progress. I was online and the message boards can be, well, kind of snarky. Here on my blog, if someone said something I didn’t like, I could just delete it. Anyway, I am going to start that again. This weigh-in I was 139 pounds. That is up 3 from my last weigh-in. I haven’t been tracking my food, I haven’t been exercising and I haven’t been drinking my water. So, time to buckle down and lose the weight.

Discovery

I have been going through my old posts. You know how I have to have everything perfect, two things I have discovered. One is that I used to have very short posts, and the other is that I have gotten FAT in 4 years.

So this has encouraged/inspired me to really get serious with WeightWatchers.

>It wasn’t a Saturday

>This week D and Tigger left for Vegas to attend the CES Convention, so this weekend Em is in Manhattan. All by herself until Sunday, which is tomorrow now.

Friday I left work early to meet her. Well actually I left work early cause my boss left early and I just didn’t want to stay at work anymore. So we went to the MoS, then stopped at the Heartland Brewery on 5th between 33rd and 34th before heading to 36th and Madison so she could get her nails done. Actually since I didn’t need to get my nails done I popped into the library to use the computer. I found out I was better off using my iPod Touch with their WiFi connection then the computers, they are so old and slow. Em was really annoying me at the Heartland Brewery, I was looking at the beers and drinks and she kept saying, not on my program. Then when her nails were done she called me over for a brilliant idea. Take a cab to the hotel, then go to Flute for drinks and chocolate banana. This after she was nagging me about staying on program and saying I was going to blow my weigh-in! It was all good, I doubt the Heartland Brewery has top shelf Scotch and Bourbon.

As for blowing my weigh-in, I was down 2 pounds today.

>Weight watchers progress

>Perhaps I should have said, non-progress since I am up 1.8 pounds. Of course I have not been eating right, had a couple of parties I went to. Today I start being careful again and hopefully next week will be better.

Also, there are some other things going on that have affected my weight. They are also temporary.

Exercise, more water and being more aware of what I am eating will do the trick.

>My legs are sore tonight

>I went to work out. I know I was going to keep you posted on my Weight Watchers progress, but I didn’t go to weigh in today. I went to a tweet up last night and was drinking so I knew I would be up. I can’t understand why my legs are so sore, but I have worked out three times this week. I suppose that could be part of it.

>Life annoying allergies

>Most of my allergies are not serious. There are a few foods that I absolutely positively cannot eat. What this means is I tend to ‘cheat’ a lot with certain foods.

Recently I joined WeightWatchers. I decided that beside watching how much I eat, I will also try hard to not eat foods I am allergic to. It can only make me healthier right?

Here comes the annoying part. I’m allergic to peanut butter, but I love crackers and peanut butter so I decided to pick up a jar of soynut butter. Its the closest in texture and taste. When I got to the grocery store, I went to the health food section to check the gluten free crackers (I am also allergic to wheat). The brand of gluten free crackers is called “Nut Thins” because it has nuts in it. Yes I am also allergic to nuts. So I went to get my P.G. Tips tea, some Ritz crackers and soynut butter. They only had one brand of soynut butter, kind of like they only had one brand of gluten free crackers. One had cinnamon and sugar in it, so I picked it up to read the ingredients, ‘sunflower oil’ (I don’t need to say it do I?). All the flavors had sunflower oil in them. Someone should tell them that people allergic to nuts are often also allergic to seeds!

Grumbling, I went to pay for my purchases, still craving peanut butter and crackers I went to another grocery store where not only did they have my preferred brand of soynut butter, they also had gluten free crackers I could eat! So next time, I will go to that store first.
