Weekly Photo Challenge: Waiting

Grand Central Terminal, where everyone waits. For a train, for the subway, for the lady to toast your bagel, for friends coming to visit, and for the Apple store to open.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Family

I was just going to get the picture from my parents 50 wedding anniversary party and post it, my family, than I read: family means something different to everyone. Find a picture that means family to you and share!

Someone once said, friends are the family you pick, so here is my hand picked family, the boys who pick on me terribly, but would flatten anyone who hurt me, the girl who never tells me to ‘act my age’ and of course the cats. The cats would be mad if I excluded them after all the hair they left all over my clothes. My niece who cried because I left before her slumber party so I couldn’t come to it and made me promise, the next time you come visit ….. except I haven’t been back, the rest of the family, well, I wouldn’t pick them to be my family.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Opportunity

This little guy was taking advantage of my fire escape, so I took the opportunity to take his picture.

Trying to catch up

Today is my off day so I am trying to catch up. I have caught up with my Yankee blog, but that is easy since I am writing a post for every game and I just have to look up the games on MLB.com. This blog is my life, which right now is rather boring.

Earlier I was walking around my apartment and looked out the window, it looked like something was stuck to my fire escape. When I walked closer to my window I saw it was a little bird, a chickadee I think. I ran to get my camera, hoping he would still be there when I got back and I could get a picture. I got several pictures. He didn’t even fly away when I put my face up to the window and started talking to him, just hopped to the other side of the fire escape.

Now I have to go, I do have things to do, I plan on being back tomorrow to write more.

Cranky today

It must be that my cold is hanging on, but I am having trouble sleeping which makes me cranky. Some other things happened to make me annoyed today also.

Right now I can only remember one. When I broke the screen to my iPhone I bought a case (actually 2 but one was cheap and I threw it away). A very pretty purple case that slides on the top and bottom so you can put it on a dock without taking the case off. Today I noticed that it is breaking. It upsets me because I paid a lot of money for it.

Zagg has cases, so I went online, they were having a sale today, on invisibleSHIELD, ZAGGsmartbuds, and ZAGGsparq. Not cases though, sigh. Since the smartbuds Tigger got me are defective I ordered a pair of them, with the discount code from the Twitter sale, I don’t know why since I’ll be getting my money back, but I had to pay full price for a new case. No shipping though, but they didn’t have any pretty purple ones. This also upsets me.

The case is necessarily because I am notoriously rough on my electronics.

That is all, says she.

Even though most of my adventures happen in NYC, and it seems I am there all the time, I actually live in the Hudson Valley. City dwellers say I live upstate, that is a discussion for another time.

There are times I have to amuse myself without going to the city. One of the attraction in Poughkeepsie is the Walkway over the Hudson, it goes from Poughkeepsie to Highland with a ‘park’ at each side. We drove up to Highland because its easier to get to on that side of the river, and you don’t have to pay for parking. It’s 1.25 miles across the river.

It was brutally hot on the bridge and I felt it. My water was gone by the time I got across it, fortunately there are vendors on each side of the bridge selling food, water and other cold drinks, so I got a blue Gatorade and started back. Of course by the time I got back I was once again hot, dehydrated and my head was about to fall off my shoulders. We stopped for ice cream on the way home.

As Em said, now that I have done it, I can say I have done it and I never have to do it again. Em says the only thing left to do before I move to the city is the Rail Trail. Or I can come back one day and do it. I suppose it all depends on how soon I find an apartment.

Last Friday Gwen and I went bike riding in Central Park. It would be more accurate to say we started in Central Park, since we did ride through the city a little bit, mainly to get refreshments. We started off at Tavern on the Green, even though it’s permanently closed the building is still there, and headed down the bike paths. All the road going through Central Park are one way and along the road to Belvedere Castle there is a cat that watches you.

Knowing where the Castle is located is important, the bathrooms are to the left of the Castle. When we got to the north end of the park we went out of the Park to find a place called Screme, we had a Groupon for two free drinks. On the way there Gwen’s seat slipped, we went through a traffic circle, I almost got taken out by a cab and we had to go around two double parked cars. I resisted the urge to yell at the stupid double parked people. At Screme, I got a coffee gelato drink and Gwen got passion-fruit. They were good, but very thick and the straws were very skinny.

Unfortunately the place didn’t have a bathroom and I needed one. Since we also needed lunch we went across the street, there was a Peruvian Restaurant, too much seafood, a sushi bar, same problem, and then an Italian Restaurant. So we went in the Italian Restaurant. I don’t know what it is about restaurants in the city, but some seem to want to cram as many table in as physically possible so there is almost no room for customers.

I got a Panini and Gwen got lasagna. Then we went back to the park, when we got back to Tavern on the Green, Gwen wanted to turn the bikes in, even though it was only 3:00. After that we just kind of walked around. Got ice cream at a truck, I bought a couple half-price books at the Strand. Then we came home. That was pretty much our day. I knew if I just looked through my photos I would find a sky photo. I love taking pictures of cloud formations, the sky peeking through the branches of trees and so on.
