Last time, I hope

Wednesday I had a doctor’s appointment, a followup on my treatment for the warts on my feet. I was sure my right foot was completely free of warts and the doctor agreed with me. However the one on my left foot is being stubborn so the doctor froze it again. Of course I am a big baby so I am whining about it.

The doctor’s office is in the Flatiron area of the city so after my appointment I went down to get my ear checked. My last piercing is hurting and oozing so I wanted Ashley to look at it. She wasn’t there but the other piercer looked at it and put a longer post on. Hopefully with a little room the swelling will go down. He also loosened the blue diamond earring because that one was being a little ‘cranky’ as well. Then of course I had to get tea and scones.

Coming home was the real problem, the subway stopped at 86th. I wanted to get home so I got off and walked home from there. My foot didn’t appreciate that and complained the whole way home. It’s still complaining, I may have to take some Aleve.

Now it is way past my bedtime. If I don’t sleep soon, I won’t make it to work tomorrow.

Coffee grounds

When I moved into my apartment I bought a Keurig. I figured it would pay for itself with the money I would save by not stopping at Starbucks every morning. I was buying K-cups for a while, then decided to get a filter. I just started using the filter this week.

The coffee was more then I expected but when I figured out the price per cup, I would save 40¢ a cup. Now I had the problem of what to do with the coffee grounds, since with the K-cups you just toss them out.

After doing some extensive research (I went to ask.com and typed in ‘Coffee grounds down the drain’) I discovered that some people said you shouldn’t dump grounds in the drain, others said they had been doing for years with no problem, a couple of plumbers said, go ahead and dump grounds down the drain (Ka-ching!). I live in an apartment and am probably not the only one drinking coffee so I wouldn’t be the only suspect, but it wouldn’t be very nice.

As for putting them in the garden (did I mention I live in a 4th floor walk-up?) I don’t have a garden, I don’t even have a window box, I don’t even know if my landlord would allow me to have a window box. My boss suggested I save them and put them in a park, but I am a little shy.

However the real problem is how to get them out of the filter without just rinsing them out and down the drain. This morning I ended up putting a paper towel in the sink over the drain and filtering them that way. I will have to settle for keeping as much as I can out of the drain.

What did I do today?

Today I went to work, yesterday I stayed home sick, either a cold (which is what I truly think it was) or bad allergies. So for most of the I lounged around in bed, had a lazy day. When I got hungry I realized I had to go out because there is very little food in my apartment. Of course I wanted Mac N Cheese, which meant that first I had to go to a store to buy a pan so I could make dinner. While I was there I picked up some other things I need. Then to the grocery store, and I bought all the boxes of gluten-free mac-n-cheese (well what if they stop carrying it?). When I got home I made some and ate it (not all, I put some away for lunches). Then I turned the game on to watch the Yankees lose (well I didn’t want to watch them lose, but that’s what happened).

Work was going fine, Jean came in and asked if I had heard anything about lay-offs. Noooooo, I really wasn’t thinking about lay-offs. Apparently people were notified by e-mail, I don’t know if that is even legal. 16 from my department. 1 from our Region. Not me, I have avoided detection by the powers that be once again. The big boss invited everyone to happy hour, or as she changed it to after the everything that happened, “Solidarity Hour”. I wasn’t going to go because it was raining, then it stopped and so I went. Had a relatively nice time (I mean it was work people, not my usual crowd). On the way I stopped at the Asian restaurant on the corner and got some spring rolls and steamed dumplings. Pretty good I thought.

Since yesterday was the last game of the regular season and tomorrow starts the ALDS tonight I updated my page of Yankee Records, check it out if you get a chance.

That’s all, says she.

Pictures from Manhattan

I got a kick out of this. Live Bait at the top and Raw Bar in the window. So, does unsold live bait go into the raw bar? My brain is weird.

Normally Saturday is my day to play in Manhattan. However last weekend I had planned to come down Sunday with Gwen since Em and D were going to the game on Saturday. The plan was to go with Gwen to church on Saturday, then go down Sunday to walk around, take in a street fair, just kind of hang out. However, Em sent me a text during the week asking if I wanted to go to the game Sunday, since I had already planned to be in the city with Gwen. So our plans changed. We went down early to go to a street fair and then took the subway up to the stadium for the game.

First we got watermelon, then we stopped to get glass necklaces. For the first time ever I had the roasted corn. So good, roasted with a little butter and salt, I will definitely be getting it again. Then Gwen got a banana strawberry crepe and I got a hot Italian sausage. I may never get another hot Italian sausage at the stadium again. It was so much better.

Then we headed up to the Stadium, forgot the 7 wasn’t running so instead of taking the D we took the 4 and met family from Ohio (Yankee fans) headed to game. Since I already wrote about the game, and since I am behind in my posting, I’m going to post my pictures from Manhattan in a couple of separate posts.

Allergies

People aren’t born with allergies, it may appear that way, some people seem to have had allergies since they were born, this is not true, what is true is they developed their allergies very early. If their mother was allergic this makes them much more susceptible and much more likely to quickly develop allergies. As I discovered today, I am still developing allergies.

Em and D went to the Yankee game. The kids made crab legs, since they can’t have them when Em is home. I have never had a problem with crab legs, so I had some. I didn’t pig out, but I ate my fill. A little while later my throat got phlegmy, then the roof of my mouth and back of my throat started itching. My chest got tight and now I have a headache. So no more crab for me. Sigh.

And that’s all, says she.

Unscheduled trip

This weekend Em and D are going to Vermont for a belated anniversary trip. Since this Saturday is normally a Manhattan Saturday she made her nail appointment for today and we met up for dinner.

Actually she spent half the day in Manhattan, doing some shopping and walking and developing some huge blisters on her feet.

We had dinner at Annie Moore’s, complete with scotch for her and bourbon for me. Life is good.

If you have every looked at my sidebars you know that I am on twitter. If you follow me on twitter you know that I don’t tweet as much as some, but I do a fair amount. I ‘tweet’ with a lot of Yankee fans from all over the world.

One of them is in New York, whether for business or a vacation I haven’t been able to determine, I think it might be a little of both. He has been going to the Yankee games and Saturday I tried to meet with him, I was standing in the aisle yelling and waving and he and another Yankee fan I know from twitter didn’t hear me. For the rest of the evening I was harassing him, accusing him of ignoring me.

Today when I asked him what was up, he said, I have no plans want to meet? I sent him the address of the bar/pub near my office and he met me there, where we ate and chatted and had a generally good time.

He left his hat at the restaurant, I started teasing again that I had stolen his hat because I was a creepy stalker. He also has a really sweet Honda motorcycle.

So this is not the first person I have met through twitter but I have to say this is probably the most effort someone has put forth to meet me. Kind of amazing when the only communication we have had has been on Facebook and Twitter.

Its nice meeting new people, of course one needs to be careful, you never know when someone might really be a creepy stalker.

Normally I would write about and put some pictures up, but with the connection problems I am having, I am behind on my Yankee blogging.

We were there for the whole day, Em and the boys got manicures. I took some spring pictures of Bryant Park, I will post them later. We went down to see Ashley and had some lunch with a Groupon. The place was just O.K., they didn’t fix Tigger or my burgers right and I got a stomach ache because they had dressing on mine.

The boys went to the train to go home, Em was very nervous, but they got on the train like they were supposed to. When Em asked Tigger if he could find it all right, he held up his smartphone. “Mom I have GPS.”

Em and I went to the game and watched the Yankees beat the Mets, yay yay yay.

And that is all, says she.

Spending the day in the city is always nice, we got a late start since the only thing planned, that we had a definite time for was the baseball game.

Em needed to get her ears checked, she mentioned to Ashley that I had a new hole and she was jealous. Ashley said she was going to make a rule that we had to come in together only. To avoid fighting I guess. We had lunch at a place called Corner Shop around the corner from the jewelry store where Ashley works. It was kind of a health food, organic food type of cozy little restaurant, omelets with mushrooms and spinach, breakfast burritos wrapped with whole wheat tortillas and chicken sausage. Good tasty food.

So then we took the subway up to Yankee Stadium for the ball game. Yankees lost, there was extra drama regarding one of the players. And we were sitting next to a section full of RedSox fans. When I got home I was so tired, that is why I am writing this on Sunday instead of Saturday evening.
