>Time Square and frustration at City College

>Tuesday I had my SEFA kick-off luncheon/award ceremony (I didn’t win an award). They used to have the two events separate, but because of the ‘economic condition’ now they are one event. I got my invitation, complete with a response sheet and directions in the mail. To get there I had to go through Time Square, there was this performer, he was wearing a skeleton suit(black outfit with skeleton in white painted/printed on it) and a white mask (like Phantom or Jason but not at professional looking) and a white hat. The hat had the Yankee logo on it, but it was in white, outlined in black. I spent the next 10 minutes wondering if he was trying to curse the Yankees. I decided it was just for Halloween.

I got a late start for the SEFA thing because Joe DiMura and Koon Tang were in the office and wanted to meet with staff, then we had an emergency drill. Then I had a little trouble with the stellar(heavy sarcasm) directions they provided, “1 to 137th Street at Broadway. Walk south …. and walk east … to Convent Ave. and 135th Street.” There was no indication about which way you should go. From where I was standing I could see a street number sign ‘141’. The address was ‘150’, so I thought the Hall where the luncheon was would be on the other side of the street. So I started walking down the street, the wrong way at first, then I turned around and stayed on the side of the street opposite of 141. The event was at City College and I eventually realized that all the College building were on the opposite side of the street, so I crossed over, I kept walking, I walked 5 blocks ending up past the college. So once again I turned around. By now it was 30 minutes past when I should have been there. As I got almost to 135th Street I noticed a sign that said ‘Aaron Davis Hall’, the reason I didn’t see it was because I was on the other side of the street, 150 Convent Ave was next to 141 Convent Ave, not across the street!

After the program was over instead of going back to work I went downtown and did some shopping. I knew I would be too stressed afterwards, (their directions always suck, I won’t tell you about the last time) I went to Yankee Clubhouse and Sephora, the only thing I bought was a Yankees headband for the cold weather. Gwen saw it when I got home and wants one.

Tonight the Phillies beat the Dodgers, so the Phillies are going to the World Series. That is good, Em and I wanted them to beat the Dodgers.

>Saturday in the city and a new blog

>Friday was the first game of the ALCS and I missed part of it because I had to go up to get new shoes. I needed to wear shoes Saturday to the city and all my shoes hurt my feet. Em said I probably needed bigger shoes, which doesn’t make sense to me. Target didn’t have any that I liked so I went to DSW and found pair of Skechers. I bought them in a size larger, mainly because I couldn’t remember the size I already had. They are called D’lites and are black and pick and are lightweight.

Em had a nail appointment, but she was worried about the rain. We went anyway, the weather report said the rain would come later, so we went down after having breakfast at Panera. I had remembered to charge everything so I had my book and my music. The little dog Angela at the nail salon was a wee bit upset I was sitting on her couch. She kept coming up to me and looking at me.

Then we had lunch at the diner and did some shopping. We bought some stuff at Express. In all a good day, and we got home before the rain and in time to watch the Yankee game. And my shoes did not hurt my feet.

Now if you want to know about the Yankee game, check out my new blog The Foxx Loves the Yankees.

>Stay off the tracks!

>I am just issuing that warning since Monday on our way home from the city someone didn’t and got hit by the Amtrak train. So the track was shut down just north of Peekskill for ‘Police Activity’, that’s code for someone got killed and we have to find out why. Well, he/she got hit by a train, so open the track already! Yes, I am a terrible person and should be flogged.

Em called D to see if he would come get us, and he did, then we had to listen to him grip about the excess of construction activity and lack of signs etc on the way home. He also said “Don’t go down to the city again any time soon.” Which is typical of him, this is the first time that we (Em and I) have had a problem with the train since we have been going down. In fact, I come every day and the times there have been a problem are less then 10 in 4 years commuting.
Anyway, I ended up the day with a migraine that was still hanging around Tuesday, mainly cause it wasn’t so bad I wanted to take one of my pills, since I have so few left and don’t want to go to the doctor. I left early from work but didn’t go home, I wanted to see if there were any watches at the Yankee Clubhouse Store. There weren’t and when I got home I was glad there wasn’t because my fan club card was in the mail. I also got a sticker with the Yankee Logo on it, don’t know what I will do with that.
The walk seemed to get rid of the headache, but it must have left me light headed since I agreed to drive the kids out to Buffalo later this month. YIKES! Then I stayed up to 2 am transferring my pictures to my external hard drive. I had a real attack of the stupids.

I forgot to tell you that

earscloseup090926last night when I was getting ready to come upstairs for Em’s party, I caught my nail on my earring and pulled it out of my ear. I didn’t realize it at first, just knew I had caught the earring and my ear HURT! When I touched my ear, I realized the earring was gone and then I heard it hit the plastic in my trash can (which was in the middle in my room because of my cold{I found the earring later}). So I got my wee tiny gold hoops to put in instead, and I almost couldn’t get the earring in my left ear. After much trying and blotting up the blood I finally got it in and, well, it wasn’t good since my ears were bleeding and hurting. In fact I didn’t really sleep too good.

This morning however, I was feeling O.K. so I went with Em to the city. It rained, we (I) got soaked. Em had her nail appointment. She was looking for a dress for Ron’s wedding and she had the address for Coldwater Creek, so went up there, making a few stops along the way, they were having a sale so she ended up getting the dress, a top and pair of pants for the original price of the dress.

So after Em got her nails done we were just walking around, it had stopped raining and was kind of nice, we wanted to get dinner. Neither of us felt like Annie Moore’s so we just walked down 42nd Street until we found a place that looked good. We found Calico Jack’s Cantina. Em got a Cajun Ceaser Salad and I got a Bourban Street Burrito. Mine was really good but much too big for me. I still ordered dessert, Key Lime Mousse. The food was good and served fast and our server was attentive. Em made a note of it as a place we will be going back to.

Ball game was starting when we got home, I wish the Yanks could figure out how to beat Tampa Bay.

>New camera

>I got a new camera. It is something I have been thinking about for a while. While I liked my Kodak, it was starting to have some little problems. I like a viewfinder with my cameras and cameras with viewfinders are getting more expensive and harder to find. So last Saturday, Gwen and I were up at Target and I started looking at cameras. They had a nice Canon on display, unfortunately they did not have any in stock.

As we walked away from the camera section, since I was really up there to get cat food and envelopes to mail books out in, Gwen suggested Best Buy, so we went there. They did not have the same camera, but they had the next one up from it. Obviously I can’t take a picture of the camera, but I did download a picture from Amazon. Its a Canon PowerShot A1100IS. 12.1 mega pixels, 4x optical zoom. I haven’t uploaded any pictures from it so I don’t know how good they are, but I am about too. Hang on for just one minute.
Here is Abigail.
Here is Tigger.

>The Yankees Win!

>I went to my first ever Yankee game yesterday, in the NEW Yankee stadium. We were way up top, the cheap seats you know. It wasn’t too bad, we had a roof over our head, which meant we were in shade and I had my little binoculars, which actually are pretty powerfull, I was able to see that the police officers on the field were not that cute. Not like my man Derek.

Anyway, it was fun, Cano and A-Rod got home runs, which was exciting. I jumped up and screamed and shook my … well you get the picture. My ticket is glued in my album now and I bought a keyring. I am going to get earrings from the MLB website, they are pretty little things and if I ever go to another game, shoot, if I watch a game at home on TV, I’m going to wear them. I will even wear them to visit my mom! She hates the Yankees.

I will end this post with a picture of my favorite Yankee of all time. May he rest in peace.

And I haven’t posted since Wednesday, I mean, like really posted, sat here and thought up something clever and witty to say out of my brain.

Every other Wednesday is a RDO for me, that stands for Regular Day Off, the Department is calling it a Pass Day. So what did I do Wednesday? Well, a lot of nothing really, and a lot of something. LOL. I walked with Gwen, we went to the library. Her idea, went online but didn’t have enough time to really do anything. Had lunch with Em. Got ice cream for Fred since he had come home sick from school, played Pictionary, see what I mean by nothing and something?

Thursday was a regular work day and today Em and Tigger went to Manhattan, South Street Seaport where she got a ankle chain and a top really cheap. I had my eye doctor appointment, I now need bi-focal lenses. But I got my contacts, I just have to not wear them from 6:00 a.m. to midnight. I should get to bed earlier than midnight anyway, since I get up at 5:00 a.m. Afterwards we met at Annie Moore’s, we had planned to go to Marie Belle, but Em had a blister on the bottom of her foot. This was on top of the blister she got when she and I were in Manhattan. So we just came home. See her take on the day at her blog, Marcie’s Manhattan.

090521-10321On another note, someone made a comment about my piercing post, so we sent a few e-mails back and forth, I decided to see if I could get a picture of my ear and here it is! I already got an “Awww it’s cute!” I am now thinking about getting a third hole, but I don’t know if there is room on my little ear.

>Migraine

>Today was going to be a great day, a day I didn’t have to do anything, until I woke up with a headache, so I took Tigger and we went out, first I stopped at Starbucks to get a coffee, hoping the caffeine would knock out the headache, then we went up to the mall, I wanted to get a new flash drive, for a little bit more I got this.

It has a ton more storage space and is more what I wanted. I got that at Best Buy and looked at the net books while I was there. I saw one I really want. Then went to Target and got the other stuff I wanted then stopped at the gas station for gas and more caffeine, it didn’t help, I took a Maxalt when I got home and laid down, then got up, thinking I needed something to eat, I made some toast, couldn’t eat it, went back to bed, got up again and had some Star Trek cereal dry, that worked and the headache was finally gone.

So not that it is time to go to bed I am feeling good!

>Bed soon

>But I just had to check in here once. These You-tube video is pretty cool I think.

I got the rest of my free books.

No reading got done, the cable and satellite were out so the kids wanted me upstairs to play games with them. I consoled myself by buying a dress from Overstock.com. Who I have never purchased anything from before, I just wanted one more dress and the one I wanted from Chadwicks wasn’t in my size. I got the pink and black one.

Since I was upstairs it also meant I got no blogging done, that is why I am still up, I notified all my award winners that they have an award to pick up at my book blog, Bella is reading.

My long day and poor Fred

I am starting this post with some advice, don’t ever break a bone before a holiday or on a Friday (I actually recommend you don’t break a bone at all, but if you’re going to insist on doing it, follow the above advice). The urgent care put a splint on it, he was to go to a orthopedist for a cast today. Well, D couldn’t get one to return his call, so he called the pediatrician who told him to go to the hospital ER to get it done. Well, they put a temporary cast on it and Monday Em has to take him to the orthopedist for another x-ray and cast. Poor kid.

The worst thing though? Em had told him that after spring break he could start riding his bike to school. Well, now he can’t.

On to the massage, when I made the appointment, they asked if I wanted a female, since I never had a massage before I didn’t know what to expect and so I didn’t know it would make a difference whether or not I had a male or female. So I said it didn’t matter. Ron gave me my massage, he said to let him know if he was pressing too hard, since it was my first massage. When he first started he pushed real hard on my lower back and I thought I was going to pass out from not being able to breathe, I was just about to shout, “Stop I can’t breathe!” When he let up, so I guess he knows what he’s doing. He also asked me if I was just there for a massage or if there was anything else, so I told him about my injured shoulder, and I noticed he did things with that shoulder he didn’t do with the other, so it ended up a little sore, but better in the long run. In fact right now, I can almost lift my arm straight up. He didn’t do much of a head massage, probably cause I have all this hair. Note to self: before getting another massage. Shave head.

After we showered and Em went in the steam room. I didn’t because I was getting a headache. We walked across Central Park to Cafe Frida for lunch, where I proceeded to make a total mess of myself with my burrito. I thought I could pick it up and eat it, and in doing so I got sauce all over the place and on my pants. Then we walked up to the Crocs store so I could get the sandals I saw the last time we were there. It was there that I realized I didn’t have my debit card with me. Em gave me the cash for the Crocs and I was then racking my brain trying to figure out what could have happened to it. My only thought was, since the last time I had used it was at the gas station, and I normally put my card in my pocket after I swipe it at the pump and it wasn’t in my pocket now, was I had taken it out of my pocket at home and left it on my bed. I called Gwen and she looked, but couldn’t find it. I wasn’t too worried, since I hadn’t gone anywhere after the gas station so I was pretty sure I hadn’t left it anywhere (I found it on my bed when I got home).

We stopped at several stores on the way back to GCT, Em was looking for a bathing suit for Puerto Rico, but didn’t find one. We also stopped at a Chase bank to see how much was in my Chase account since I did have that card with me. We also looked for a place where we could get Fred an NYPD hat since he can’t wear his shirt right now (can’t get it on over his cast). Em didn’t find a suit and we couldn’t find a hat. So she got him an i-Tunes card so he could get stuff for his i-Touch and she also got chocolate mousse cheese cake from Junior’s.

When we got to the train station at home, since I drove, so D could have Em’s van to take Fred where he needed to be taken, I asked her if she wanted to go home, she said, “No I want to go to Macy’s to get a bathing suit!” She ended up getting one at Penney’s and I found this really adorable sun dress on sale, and the cashier scanned this coupon for an extra 20% off.

At home Em gave Fred his i-Tunes card and as she was apologizing for not finding something authentically NY he said, “Its an authentic NYC i-Tunes card.”
