Tag Archive: NY Yankees

If you have every looked at my sidebars you know that I am on twitter. If you follow me on twitter you know that I don’t tweet as much as some, but I do a fair amount. I ‘tweet’ with a lot of Yankee fans from all over the world.

One of them is in New York, whether for business or a vacation I haven’t been able to determine, I think it might be a little of both. He has been going to the Yankee games and Saturday I tried to meet with him, I was standing in the aisle yelling and waving and he and another Yankee fan I know from twitter didn’t hear me. For the rest of the evening I was harassing him, accusing him of ignoring me.

Today when I asked him what was up, he said, I have no plans want to meet? I sent him the address of the bar/pub near my office and he met me there, where we ate and chatted and had a generally good time.

He left his hat at the restaurant, I started teasing again that I had stolen his hat because I was a creepy stalker. He also has a really sweet Honda motorcycle.

So this is not the first person I have met through twitter but I have to say this is probably the most effort someone has put forth to meet me. Kind of amazing when the only communication we have had has been on Facebook and Twitter.

Its nice meeting new people, of course one needs to be careful, you never know when someone might really be a creepy stalker.

Normally I would write about and put some pictures up, but with the connection problems I am having, I am behind on my Yankee blogging.

We were there for the whole day, Em and the boys got manicures. I took some spring pictures of Bryant Park, I will post them later. We went down to see Ashley and had some lunch with a Groupon. The place was just O.K., they didn’t fix Tigger or my burgers right and I got a stomach ache because they had dressing on mine.

The boys went to the train to go home, Em was very nervous, but they got on the train like they were supposed to. When Em asked Tigger if he could find it all right, he held up his smartphone. “Mom I have GPS.”

Em and I went to the game and watched the Yankees beat the Mets, yay yay yay.

And that is all, says she.

Spending the day in the city is always nice, we got a late start since the only thing planned, that we had a definite time for was the baseball game.

Em needed to get her ears checked, she mentioned to Ashley that I had a new hole and she was jealous. Ashley said she was going to make a rule that we had to come in together only. To avoid fighting I guess. We had lunch at a place called Corner Shop around the corner from the jewelry store where Ashley works. It was kind of a health food, organic food type of cozy little restaurant, omelets with mushrooms and spinach, breakfast burritos wrapped with whole wheat tortillas and chicken sausage. Good tasty food.

So then we took the subway up to Yankee Stadium for the ball game. Yankees lost, there was extra drama regarding one of the players. And we were sitting next to a section full of RedSox fans. When I got home I was so tired, that is why I am writing this on Sunday instead of Saturday evening.

Topic #123:

Topic #123: Pick a blog or blog post you enjoy and write a post about it.

This is a blog I enjoy, This Space For Rent Call 1-800-BITE ME, this is the Blogger that turned me on to “Postaday2011”. We encourage each other, well, she encourages me, I don’t know if I encourage her but I try.

My first introduction to Stacey was on Twitter, when I got put on lists of Yankee fans, then I followed her links to her blog. It is a mix of things, she writes about being bipolar, being a Yankee fan (like me!), sometimes she posts fiction she has written, sometime a collection of random thoughts. It’s always interesting.

My interest in reading about being bipolar is personal, my best friend in the whole wide world has two children who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and so I like to read about other people with the same disorder, perhaps in the hope that I can be a better ‘Auntie’ to her kids. Stacey’s blog is very helpful because she is very honest in it. She is very brave to put herself out there like that. I hope someday we get to meet. Except a part of me is afraid she won’t like me. There is my little insecurity showing.

So check out her blog, and that’s all, says she.

In the world of baseball

Phil Hughes continues to be on the D.L. with what is being referred to as right shoulder inflammation, the Yankees term was “dead arm”. He had a set back, after throwing 12 pitches in a bullpen session he reported feeling deadness and fatigue in his arm. He has been sent for tests and hopefully the doctors will find out what is wrong and fix it.

Francisco Cervelli is scheduled to catch on Tuesday and Wednesday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and could be activated as early as Thursday.

Baseball season

It is now baseball season which is causing me a slight problem. When I started the Post-a-day promise I was a little worried that when baseball started I would fall behind on this blog. I reasoned that if I was in the habit of posting everyday, it wouldn’t happen. Well it has, a little bit but so far I have been able to catch up, if not posting everyday, I have the same number of posts as days in the week. I still feel like I am a failure in blogging.

However, on my Yankee blog, I have posted for every game so far this year, in fact I even made up a button, “Post-a-game-2011”. That is where the problem is, I am having to write two blog posts almost every day. I don’t want either post to be a two-liner, or just a link to a new article I found interesting. I have noticed a steady stream of hits on my blog and I am starting to think I have regular readers and I don’t want to disappoint them.

I will do my absolute best to stay on top of this blog. However if it gets too hard I might switch to the post a week promise.

That is all, says she.

Spam, not the food

Before I started typing this post I checked my spam folder and deleted 10 spam comments. If you have commented and your comment has not appeared on this site, it probably went into my spam folder and I deleted it. If I see a comment in my spam folder and the link is to a business web page, or the comment appears to be trying to sell me something, it stays in the spam folder and is eventually deleted. If I have two comments that are almost identical, they get deleted.

Em and I went to the game. We were so cold, I am still cold. My neck hurts from below my ear to my shoulder, the Yankees lost, but so did the Red Sox and Orioles, so the Yankees are hanging on to first place, by half a game. They need to pick it up and win tomorrow!

Someone got my debit card number and used it to buy stuff. I got the e-mail during the game. I tried to call, if I moved into a quiet area the reception was bad, if I moved to better reception, it was too loud to hear. So my card has now been cancelled, they said they would refund my money. I won’t have a debit card for a few weeks and I have to change by regularly scheduled charges and saved financial information at Amazon and iTunes and Sony and …. I think that’s all.

That is all, says she.

Back to work

My life, work, Manhattan on weekends and baseball. Whenever possible. Maybe I can’t come up with anything new and fresh to say because my obsession has surfaced with the beginning of April and all I can think of is, “Are the Yankees going to make to the post-season?”

Does it make me a hypocrite to tell people, “Calm down, it’s only April.” While in the back of my head I am thinking, “If these guys don’t start winning more games …. ” Deep breath, deep breath.

On another topic, last night Gwen was looking at apartments (for me) on-line. Every time she steps in my room her eyes light up with the thoughts of what she is going to do when it is her room. And she talks constantly about it. She is driving me crazy.

Sometimes, I hate everybody in this house.

This is my new favorite E*Trade commercial. If I had money to invest, I would probably do it with E*Trade.

Just a man and his thoughts, and his smart phone.

Good day all around

This Saturday started with me fulfilling an obligation first thing in the morning. Then it was off to the city. Em and I had appointments for a massage at the Russian spa I really like. It was the first time for Em and the second time for me. We skipped the sauna because Em didn’t want her makeup all over her face. There are three things I have learned about this spa:

  1. The robes are not one size fits all,
  2. The lockers are not designed for 5 ft tall people.
  3. The twisty things that the locker keys are on do not make good ponytail holders.

Other than those three things, I loved the massage. So did Em, well she says she always loves getting a massage and here is not the best massage she has had. I have also decided that a shot of vodka at 4:00 pm after just having a handful of Cheerios and a doughnut all day is not a good idea.

Then it was time for Em to get her nails done, and I was going to go to Starbucks to have a snack and go online, but Em wanted to see if The Yankee store had and Russell Martin shirts. I knew they wouldn’t, but I went there anyway. This time I didn’t buy anything, no one seemed to mind that I was walking around taking pictures in the store.

For dinner we went back to BonChon chicken. This time we got just pot stickers and salad. But since it was dinnertime, there were a lot more pot stickers per order. So we had some to bring home for Stitch. Good times.

Oh, and the Yankees beat the Red Sox.

What? Me worry?

Yes I was worried about Gwen coming to the city on her own. I even raced to Grand Central Terminal after leaving the office 20 minutes later then I planned in a panic to catch the train to get to Yankee Stadium before her. She was fine, she was better then fine. And stayed for the whole game.

She seemed to be having a good time, talked to the players, cheered, ate junk food. After we went into Manhattan to have dinner. I was thinking we would go back to a place she had really liked, but neither of us could remember the name or where it was. We stopped at McDonald’s so she could use the bathroom and I tried to find the place on my phone, then it died. But McDonald’s has free wifi, so we started searching on our iPod touches. That is where she found Tony’s Di Napoli on 43rd St. It is a Family Style Restaurant, which means their dinners are to share so we did, and still couldn’t finish it. Have you ever been so stuffed you couldn’t eat another bite? That is how we felt when we left there, like we didn’t even have room for air.

So it was a good day. And now time to sleep.
