Capital Punishment

Capital punishment does not always mean the death penalty. In New York capital punishment is life in prison. In Connecticut capital punishment is death. I have always been, and will always be opposed to the death penalty. This is my personal opinion, it is not a political stand or a religious belief. My religion states that a government has the right to put a citizen to death.

Every once in while a case comes along that tests some people’s opposition to the death penalty. Such as the home invasion of the Petit family in Cheshire, Conn., on the morning of July 23, 2007, which left Dr. William A. Petit Jr. severely beaten. His wife and daughters were brutally murdered.

Steven J. Hayes is one of the men apprehended by police for this crime, he was tried, convicted and sentenced to death. But he will not die for years, if ever. Death penalty convictions carry with them automatic appeals. This is one of the reasons I am not in favor of them.

An article in the NYT talks about a new thing that is being included in the appeals. A service I not only know and love but some say am seriously addicted to. Twitter.

Cheshire Appeal Will Point to Twitter Here is a sentence from the article:

“One of the most provocative is that the intense reporting on the trial — including mainstream reporters’ extensive use of Twitter — created a “circus atmosphere” and such widespread, instant saturation with inflammatory details that the jury was improperly swayed by public passions.”

This sentence led me to tweet the following:

Steven J. Hayes is a child-raping murdering dirtbag scum of the earth that deserves to be tortured. Is that provocative enough for you?

It was provocative, it generated this response: “woah .. tell us how you really feel !!! ~ @blair33185

@blair33185 I think they should put him in a jail cell with hardened criminals that are fathers of 11 year old girls.

What I didn’t say is I would really like him to have “Child Rapist” tattooed on his forehead and then have him put in General Population at Sing Sing. But he wasn’t convicted in New York, so he’ll be in some sissified Connecticut jail until he gets a needle in his arm, if that ever happens.

Yes that is a little harsh. But will Dr. Petit really get closure from Mr. Hayes death? Will it bring back his wife and daughters? Will it make the pain of losing them any less intense? I think not. The only thing that will heal his pain to get his wife and girls back.

It’s not a perfect world, if it was a perfect world, men like Steven Hayes wouldn’t exist. Women and girls wouldn’t have to worry about being raped and murdered. So we have to settle for hoping that he and his partner never walk the streets of any state again whether in prison for the rest of their lives or with their lives snuffed out by the state of Connecticut.

>Wednesday off

>Yes this is my regular every other Wednesday off. And I really accomplished nothing. So I figured I should write a blog post and here I am.

I did pick the four winners for my blog contest. They have been contacted and will be receiving their gifts soon.

There is a site called blogger.com where you can register your blog. You can see the button in my right sidebar. To verify your blog, they ask you to put this button on your blog with the link. Well my blogs are still saying need verification. I am trying to exercise patience with this.

The reason I registered was because of the disappointing number of responses to my blog contest. Not just this one. I had one earlier and had one person enter. So I sit here trying to get inspiration to write, and it doesn’t come. Why should I write when I don’t have anyone reading?

So I tell myself, you didn’t start this blog to get readers, you started it to put your thoughts down, like you’ve been doing since you were 10 and bought your first diary. This way you are not using up tons of notepaper on stuff that just gets filed away. Along the way people have come and become interested. Then I got greedy, I wanted more people to listen to my.

Anyway, on another blog someone wrote that the way to get more followers was to register with some sites and then participate. I think that is where I have the most problems. Yes I joined bookblogs.com and get joined discussion groups and get e-mails, which I delete. I think I know the problem now.

Anyway, the blog I read it on is Nurse’s Notes, go check it out and read for yourself. I wrote a guest post for her, she hasn’t posted it, I guess she’s afraid her blog will end up as popular as mine!

Em made her nail appointment for Monday because D left for Florida on Sunday. I left work to meet up with her. On the way to meet her I stopped at Sephora, I got a set of eyeliner pencils in cool colors. After the nail appointment we went down to see Ashley. I took the subway since I was wearing my dress boots and Em walked. I got there before Em and decided to replace on my studs with a ring. I got black gold with cubic zirconium.

After that we went for dinner at a ‘fast food pasta place’ Hello Pasta. I got gluten-free pasta with sauce with sausage and peas. It was very good. Em says, if she lived near there she would eat there all the time. After dinner we went to another place Em had a groupon for called Flute. Read my review here. Then we headed back to Grand Central Terminal.

My feet hurt so bad, I am wearing my sneakers today and feet still hurt.

>A cover-up

>The last place I went to get my hair dyed used the wrong stuff. They put temporary dye on my hair. Hello, I am covering gray hair I need the permanent dye. This happened three times so I said, No More. Another thing that happened was I would tell them, Please be careful, I just got my ears pierced. The stylist would promise, then proceed to drag the towel over my ears. OWWIE!

So I started doing it myself. Again. It was o.k. for a while, then I got tired of the mess, and having to search the store for my color and panicking when I couldn’t find it and getting dye in my eyes and on my ears and neck and so I started searching for a place to get it done.

The first place I went was on 5th Avenue. One of those places were the guys hand out flyers on the street. I decided to get a hair cut and see how I liked it. I didn’t. My roots started to get long and so I colored my hair myself again.

Last Wednesday I was at the mall with Gwen, I checked out the two hair places, asking for prices on hair coloring. I decided I would try out Unisex Hair Palace. So tonight after work I went up there. After finding out what I wanted (the roots covered) Lynne (?) took me back. She did a fabulous job. Color is great, she dried it to perfection, and without my saying anything, she was very careful working around my ears. She did hurt them a little bit, but there was no way she could avoid it.

She also explained that if I had wanted a different color, there would not have been enough time to do a color change before they closed. Since I was keeping it the same color it wasn’t a problem. Another thing I liked was at this place the haircut was included, I had to pay extra because my hair is long, but I have to pay extra every where I go.

Now my hair is beautiful, and I didn’t have to do it!

Music and a Movie

October was kind of a busy month. Of course since the Yankees are not playing in the World Series, I will be able to pay more attention to this blog. To read about what’s being going on with me and the Yankees, check out my other blog: The Foxx Loves the Yankees

Em, Tigger, Fred and I went to see Lifehouse at The Roseland Ballroom. It was standing room only, which I had never been too. Here is how it works. You have to get there about a zillion hours before the doors open and stand in line. Then you come in and find a place to stand for the concert. I noticed that there were benches built along the wall, so Em and I went and secured a seat. We took turns getting drinks and going to the bathroom. The bathroom was pretty incredible, there was the door in, then a room to the left with stalls and a room to the right with couches, tables and mirrors. When I told Em, she said, “This place used to be a disco, they needed a place to snort their cocaine.” I believed her since the room was not lighted enough to put on makeup. The music was great, bottle of water was $3. There was a couple standing in front of us that should have gotten a room. Really.

The other thing we did was go to see the movie The Social Network. I took the boys and Em, D and Gwen went to see Secretariat. After about a minute and a half, I leaned over to Tigger, he whispered to me, “This guy is a a**hole.” I replied, “No he has aspergers syndrome.” Total social awkwardness, and when he was a billionaire and could buy anything he wanted, he spent all his time programing and updating the Facebook site. I thought The Social Network was good enough to see again, in fact I might go see it with Em next weekend. The boys said, “It was o.k.”.

So now I am trying to adjust to life without baseball, and back to blogging here and on my book review blog.

Contador Tested Positive for Banned Substance; May Lose Tour Title

Alberto Contador, a three-time winner of the Tour de France, tested positive for a banned substance on the final rest day of the Tour in July, according to a statement sent Wednesday by his spokesman, Jacinto Vidarte.

Contador, a Spaniard formerly on the Astana team, could lose the title he won this year and face a two-year suspension.

He learned about the positive test for the banned drug clenbuterol, a weight-loss and muscle-building drug, on Aug. 24, nearly a month after winning the Tour, the statement said. He had tested positive for the substance on July 21, one day before the race’s decisive mountain stage.

>Down to Manhattan

>The train is not just for going to work. I like to take the train to spend the day in the city. Like last Saturday, Em and I spent all day in the city. Got back in time to watch the Yankees lose …. but I’m not going to think about that right now.

The day started with my trip to Weight Watchers (something else I’m not talking about) and we went to breakfast then the train, I missed the memo about that and didn’t have my face on. So our first stop in the city was at Sephora’s so I could get moisturizer with sunscreen. Then we headed up to the crocs store. Em was hoping they would be having clearance sales. They weren’t. But I’m getting ahead of myself. On the way to the Crocs store, Em stopped at this vendor with a sign, $5 glass jewelry. She motioned me to come, “These are kind of pretty.” Even though the Crocs store wasn’t having a clearance sale, she still found some nice sandals, funny shaped I thought but she said they were very comfortable, and in light blue. Next we went to Cafe Frida, our favorite Mayan restaurant for a light lunch, that ended up leaving us full for the rest of the day.

We were walking through Central Park and suddenly Em stopped. “All these times and I never noticed that.” I looked where she was pointing at a water fountain. We watched as a boy pushed a button at the bottom of the fountain and his poodle took a drink. After they left left I walked over and took a closer look. The bottom of the fountain is a bowl, and the spout put water into the bowl, for your dog. New Yorkers love their pets. I thought that was pretty cool. I mean, obviously, cause I took a picture of it.

We then went down to see Ashley so Em could get prices on jewelry and Ashley could look at my ear. My sore pierced ear, except it is no so sore anymore, and very, very pretty.

And I can’t remember what else? We ended up at the Irish pub eating nachos with cheesecake for dessert and I had Kahlua and club soda. Long tiring but fun day.

>This is how I fly

>well, not really fly.

Metro North ftw! No not this morning, this morning was more like, Metro North WTF? or FML. If you don’t know what those mean, check out Urban Dictionary.

Today is the second day I caught the early train, trying to get back in the routine of getting to work on time, instead of ‘only 10 minutes late’. I also decided to bring my laptop, on the off chance I had a minute so I could update my blogs. So I turned on my hot spot and my laptop, was about to get started, when I heard some noise about getting off the train. Yes we had to change trains in Cold Spring. Which consisted of getting off our train (a door malfunction, really MetroNorth?) and waiting until the next train showed up. So now I am on a train with a double train load of people.

Once again I say. FML.

>Titanium of Element 22 has dropped a curious prompt on my plate… quite a while ago. I ask forgiveness for my procrastination.

The rules of the game?

1) Go to your photo files, select the 8th photo folder.
2) Select the 8th photo in that folder.
3) Post that photo along with the story behind it.
4) Then challenge 8 blogging friends to do the same.

I have no ideas what the ‘story’ is behind this picture. I was just fooling around with my camera, and Tigger was clowning around, I think we had friends visiting from Buffalo.

So now its your turn, pick up the challenge and go!
