The great hill

Friday and Saturday were busy days that I am now paying for. While I rest I am going to try to catch up on my blogging.

Friday was spent in the city with Gwen. Em had a Groupon for bike rental in Central Park so we started off early. Even with stopping for breakfast (o.k. it was just coffee and yogurt at Starbucks) and walking we were there before the place opened. So we got strawberry tarts.

There is a bike path that bicycles are supposed to stay on with arrows pointing the direction you are supposed to ride in, I almost called one bicyclist a ‘dumbass’ right in front of Gwen. Oops. After I while I determined we were on the small loop, we wanted to get the whole park experience. We had the bikes for the whole day. This nice man with a poodle (a standard poodle, not one of the annoying midget versions) helped us figure out the way to get out of the circle, then he pointed to the far north part of the map, “Take the easy path over, you don’t want to go up or down this hill.” That sounded good to me, considering I can’t remember how long it had been since I had been on bike before Friday. It is true however, that you never forget.

When we spoke to this man we were between the Sheep Meadow and the Tavern on the Green, heading south, since we couldn’t turn around we continued south, looped around past the Carousel, the Mall and the Playfield to the exit for 72nd which is where the big loop starts. I knew I had made the right turn when the Loeb Boathouse came into view. Here is some very important information, when you see the sign for Belvedere Castle on the left side of the road and turn in, the way to Belvedere Castle is to the right, if you go on the path to the left (you should walk your bikes down here, its the law) you come to this building. Why is this important? This building at the edge of the Ramble, has bathrooms! Ladies to the left, Mens to the right. If you’re looking for it on the map, its the Ramble Shed.

We get back on the road and start riding and riding, I keep looking off to the left for the ‘easy’ trail, suddenly I notice we are riding next to Central Park West and ahead of us is the Great Hill. Gulp, oh boy. We made it, we conquered the Great Hill! We are amazing. We even rode the bikes on Broadway when we left to have lunch.

After we dropped the bikes off we did some shopping and stuff, but what made the day amazing was the bike ride in Central Park.

>Why?

>Wintertime is the time, it seems, that everything on the car breaks. First the mirror, well that was probably a snow plow. Then the oil needed to be changed, but Stitch didn’t make the appointment because of the snow forecast, then he forgot after that. He need to make the appointment since I have a card for a free oil change at the dealer. Anyway, the other day the oil light came on. Crap. But yesterday the oil light was off, as was one of the headlights.

When the other headlight burned out it was summer, the two pack was cheaper so I bought that, thinking the other light would go soon. No it waited until this weekend, when it is freezing cold to burn out. Fortunately I don’t have to change it. Also fortunate that Tigger know how and when I reminded him he said, “I’ll do it right now.” Two boys in the same family. So different.

Now I have to get out of this bed. I had a clever way of saying how I was still in bed and blaming it on sore muscles, when I have no idea if my muscles are sore, I haven’t used them yet today!

>Minor setback

>Tuesday I kind of got derailed with my blogging, I took stuff to work to take back to the store, then there was a thing that happened at work, so I ended up at the emergency room and didn’t get home until 2 a.m. My phone battery and my iPod Touch batter both died, I was so bored just sitting there.

Wednesday I just slept in and then kind of did nothing. I started downloading apps for my iPod touch and now I can read Kindle and Nook books. Both free apps. I started cleaning up my Sony Reader library and was quite surprised to see it was almost midnight. GULP. Well, I must go now. Tomorrow I will try to catch up.

At the laundromat

If you follow me on twitter, you might think I live there. You have probably read that tweet many times. I don’t check in on Foursquare there, mainly because I haven’t been able to find it. I also joked the last time I was there that the lady told me rent was due next week.

Here’s the story, we have a washer. It is practically brand new, one of the high efficiency washers. Front load with a compartment for your soap and buttons and all kinds of fancy stuff. We love it. My mother called me the other day and she has one too, but she doesn’t like hers. However, we don’t have a dryer. D and Em just decided we didn’t need one, I agreed with them. During the summer and fall it was fine not having a dryer, now that it’s winter, and I’m wearing socks, it seems I am at the laundromat every day drying clothes. I’m not really and I am sure not having the dryer saves money, we still hang up most of our clothes to dry, but I really don’t like trudging to the laundromat when it’s cold and the ground is muddy.

When I move, I’ll probably have to wash and dry my clothes at a laundromat, so I should probably just shut up about this.

On another note, I have decided to start doing my ‘feature’, “Check Out This Blog”. There is one below you can take a quick peek at. All links that I put on my blog are checked out by me and safe.

>My shoelaces

>won’t stay tied. I am serious, I tie my shoelaces (well technically they are boot laces) when I leave my house and by the time I get to the city they are flopping around, like that one lock of hair that won’t stay in the barrette. I never see anyone else stopping to tie their shoelaces, so I must have deficient lace tying skills. I don’t know why this happens, I have been tying things up in knots and bows as long as I can remember.

Does anyone know where I can take a remedial lace tying course?

>No electricity

>Last Wednesday I was composing a blog post in head, now I don’t remember what it was about, but at the time I thought it was brilliant. I was planning on typing my blog after the game. Then the power went out.

So no ballgame, no blogging, nothing. Power was out until the next day.

>So these are my choices

>I could sit up at the picnic tables where there is shade but not much breeze and biting flies, that seem to like the taste of me. Or I can sit on the beach where there a no flies & a breeze but the sand is burning my butt through a beach towel and my shorts and while the sun is not the burning Florida sun it is still rather intense.

Yes I know, I am always finding the good in life.

>At the Beach

>This was Em’s idea, so we drove to CT. Brown sand and shells and nice waves lapping on the shore. This is not a beach, beaches have white pristine sand and waves that roar and pound the white pristine sand and people and seagulls and jellyfish dried up on the sand, and sharks! Where are the sharks? No sharks in CT.

Beaches also have wall to wall people, and the ladies don’t have flat butts that are falling out of their green bathing suits, and more seagulls then you can count. So we are spending the day at a non-beach.

>What’s the deal people?

>I don’t remember if I mentioned this before, but I can’t stand this current trend of visible bra straps. I’m not talking a strap slipping out, I’m talking always visible, a woman wearing a t-back top and a bra with regular straps. I asked a male friend if thought that was ‘sexy’ . No, was his quick answer. So why do it? Do they already have a man so don’t feel like they need to try anymore? Are they trying to show the world they are independent women and don’t have to conform to what society dictates? What happened to personal pride in your appearance? That’s why I always try to wear the correct bra, because I think it looks bad to have your straps showing and I care about how I look.

>Perspective

>A while back I was walking around the city (yes I know I do that a lot), I was wearing my Sketchers with no socks. Which how is I normally wear them. But this day I was wearing cropped pants and I could see my legs going down and ending up in the shoes. I kept thinking, “My shoes look huge, HUGE!”

However, if I took those same shoes and put them next to Fred’s or Tigger’s or shoot even Gwen’s, they would look tiny, wee little shoes. Perspective.

I was thinking of this yesterday as I walked to the subway, I had previously had a conversation on Twitter about age, this was after there was a bunch of talk about Moyer being so old. What I was thinking was, how to say I am almost 30 (or whatever milestone your are approaching) sounds older then saying I’m 30. I don’t know why, it just does. Perspective.
