Stuck at home

Because of the weather, I have been stuck at home for two days. I was so bored today I was breaking up the ice outside my door with a hammer. Then I was shoveling it all out with an little bitty blue snow shovel (it’s designed to fit in the truck of a car, that’s why it’s itty bitty).

Then I took a break to go to Dunkin Donuts. I guess that’s not exactly stuck in the house, but I consider myself stuck if I can’t drive my car anywhere. And I couldn’t.

Bored. I am not starting an ‘I was so bored . . .’ But I did clean the snow off the cars after I got back from Dunkin’ Donuts.

If I can’t get to work tomorrow, I will probably do damage to something or someone.

>Lovely day

>Em and I had a lovely day in Manhattan. We started early getting breakfast in town and taking it with us. We went to lunch at a restaurant she had a Groupon for called Ashton’s Alley. Very nice restaurant good food. Then we got massages, a place I had a Groupon for Graceful Spa or Services. Then it was time for Em to get her nails done and I got my broken nail fixed.

The nail technician was laughing when I told her how, I broke the nail when I fell and it was the worst part of my fall. “People were saying, ‘Are you all right?’ and I was saying, ‘Who cares? I broke a nail!”

Oh wait, between the massage and nail appointment we went to Annie Moore’s and had a drink, shared an appetizer and dessert.

Then home, cause I was tired.

>Retail Therapy

>There are probably some people who will say I shouldn’t be talking about ‘retail therapy’ on Martin Luther King, Jr’s Day, however, if not for this day, I would not have been able to engage in this therapy. I would have had to go to work and who knows how the day would have ended.

Em had her nail appointment and I had no idea what I should do. Since I had been looking for boots online I decided I would see what I could find in the city. Here’s what I did, I signed into ‘Yelp’ and looked for shoe stores. Then I looked for one that was close and had 1 dollar sign. I found Bonito Shoes on 6th Avenue near 38th Street. I didn’t check the reviews, I was looking for cheap. Every pair of boots was $40. I bought two pairs because the pair I was looking at online was $80. However, when I got home I discovered that one of the pairs was the wrong size, so tomorrow I have to go back to the store. I also got a little blister on my foot since I wore one pair all day.

Em had a groupon, but she decided she didn’t want to walk all the way up to where the restaurant was, so we just walked about until we found a nice little restaurant, publike place. It was called Papillon; 22 E. 54th St; New York, NY 10022. It had your standard burgers and salads and suchlike fare. Plus the best pumpernickel rolls you could ever hope to have, anywhere.

After that we went to ‘5th Avenue Chocolatiere’, which for some strange reason is on 3rd Avenue, not 5th. Em wanted to get chocolates for people at her office, she kept saying she was going to buy the peanut butter and coconut chocolates. I asked her for the chocolate gun and handcuffs. I had to settle for a chocolate covered pretzel with mini M&M’s on it.

It was a good day, a day that got worse when I saw the wrong size shoes, then got better when I saw an e-mail from my friend, “Darling we are alright.”

Happiness.

>Falling behind

>Yes, I am somewhat of a pessimist so I was wondering how long it would take for me to fall behind in my writing and here it is the 10th of January and I only have 8 posts for the year. I need to do better. I think part of the problem is I start thinking about all I have to do, I have to write in this blog, I have to write a review of ‘The Flight of the Sorceress’, I have to write a review of ‘Woo Lae Oak’. When I start thinking of all those things, I get a headache and have to go lie down. Excuse me for a moment.

Saturday Gwen and I went to see Yogi Bear. I didn’t really want to, but I promised her I would. It was entertaining. My mindset was that it wasn’t going to be a great movie. So I wasn’t expecting more then it was. Gwen actually helped me with that, she asked me, “Is this like Looney Tunes? A movie that’s just funny, no real plot?” And when I said yes she nodded her head, “That’s o.k., I like Looney Tunes.” I do too, except I don’t have to pay for Looney Tunes!

Sunday I went to the city to meet Em. I had made an appointment at Halo, the salt air place.

Halo Air Salt Rooms
An Alternative Treatment for Respiratory and Skin Discomforts.

There is more information on their website, click on the name Halo and you will go there. It’s a safe link, I put it there myself. I always check links before I publish my posts.

Then we went to the Korean Restaurant, Woo Lae Oak, which I had a coupon for. Very good, but very expensive. I haven’t written my review yet, it will be up hopefully within the week. Then we came home. I went to the store and Em mopped the floor which meant I had to take my boots off when I came inside and then I forgot them so this morning I had to run upstairs to leave. I still made the train but forgot my food, so I was in a pretty bad way today. Back to last night.

Fred was downloading Beatles songs. He wanted to get the whole box set, but can’t afford it right now. So he was downloading the songs, then playing them and dancing to them. In all it made for a fun end to a day that started out pretty crappy.

>It wasn’t a Saturday

>This week D and Tigger left for Vegas to attend the CES Convention, so this weekend Em is in Manhattan. All by herself until Sunday, which is tomorrow now.

Friday I left work early to meet her. Well actually I left work early cause my boss left early and I just didn’t want to stay at work anymore. So we went to the MoS, then stopped at the Heartland Brewery on 5th between 33rd and 34th before heading to 36th and Madison so she could get her nails done. Actually since I didn’t need to get my nails done I popped into the library to use the computer. I found out I was better off using my iPod Touch with their WiFi connection then the computers, they are so old and slow. Em was really annoying me at the Heartland Brewery, I was looking at the beers and drinks and she kept saying, not on my program. Then when her nails were done she called me over for a brilliant idea. Take a cab to the hotel, then go to Flute for drinks and chocolate banana. This after she was nagging me about staying on program and saying I was going to blow my weigh-in! It was all good, I doubt the Heartland Brewery has top shelf Scotch and Bourbon.

As for blowing my weigh-in, I was down 2 pounds today.

>Pictures this time

>Saturday Em and I were back in the city for our bi-weekly trip. This time I remembered my camera so I have pictures to post.

First we wandered through Bryant Park’s Holiday shops. Lots of cool and pretty stuff.

There was a sign that said, “Snap a pic and post on Facebook.” So I did, if you look on my Facebook you’ll see it. Then I realized they meant for you to post on THEIR Facebook. Oops.

Then we went to Sabrina’s so Em could get her nails done, we were surprised, the scaffolding around their building is gone. Amy said it had been up for two years. Looks so different, but you can see the sign in their window now.

The trees have lost their leaves.

Ashley said this place has some amazing artists. It is on St. Marks Place which is where the restaurant we were going to is.

Our next stop was Kaia House, ‘organic skin, body, baby, men, hair, make-up, pet. Click on the picture to go to their website. I bought some eye cream. It is fabulous.

Then we went to see Ashley at Maria Tash on Broadway in NoHo. If you click on the picture and then zoom it, you can see the sign for her store at the very bottom. After stopping at Starbucks and waiting ‘forevah’ for a latte, I was there. Of course Em was already there, waiting and pissed cause my phone battery was dead so she couldn’t yell at me.

Then we headed up Broadway to GCT. Did some shopping on the way, we both had coupons. She got a skirt and I got a pair of jeans at the Gap.

It was a long tiring but fun day.

>Branching out

>

Em made her nail appointment for Monday because D left for Florida on Sunday. I left work to meet up with her. On the way to meet her I stopped at Sephora, I got a set of eyeliner pencils in cool colors. After the nail appointment we went down to see Ashley. I took the subway since I was wearing my dress boots and Em walked. I got there before Em and decided to replace on my studs with a ring. I got black gold with cubic zirconium.

After that we went for dinner at a ‘fast food pasta place’ Hello Pasta. I got gluten-free pasta with sauce with sausage and peas. It was very good. Em says, if she lived near there she would eat there all the time. After dinner we went to another place Em had a groupon for called Flute. Read my review here. Then we headed back to Grand Central Terminal.

My feet hurt so bad, I am wearing my sneakers today and feet still hurt.

>Life annoying allergies

>Most of my allergies are not serious. There are a few foods that I absolutely positively cannot eat. What this means is I tend to ‘cheat’ a lot with certain foods.

Recently I joined WeightWatchers. I decided that beside watching how much I eat, I will also try hard to not eat foods I am allergic to. It can only make me healthier right?

Here comes the annoying part. I’m allergic to peanut butter, but I love crackers and peanut butter so I decided to pick up a jar of soynut butter. Its the closest in texture and taste. When I got to the grocery store, I went to the health food section to check the gluten free crackers (I am also allergic to wheat). The brand of gluten free crackers is called “Nut Thins” because it has nuts in it. Yes I am also allergic to nuts. So I went to get my P.G. Tips tea, some Ritz crackers and soynut butter. They only had one brand of soynut butter, kind of like they only had one brand of gluten free crackers. One had cinnamon and sugar in it, so I picked it up to read the ingredients, ‘sunflower oil’ (I don’t need to say it do I?). All the flavors had sunflower oil in them. Someone should tell them that people allergic to nuts are often also allergic to seeds!

Grumbling, I went to pay for my purchases, still craving peanut butter and crackers I went to another grocery store where not only did they have my preferred brand of soynut butter, they also had gluten free crackers I could eat! So next time, I will go to that store first.

>Down to Manhattan

>The train is not just for going to work. I like to take the train to spend the day in the city. Like last Saturday, Em and I spent all day in the city. Got back in time to watch the Yankees lose …. but I’m not going to think about that right now.

The day started with my trip to Weight Watchers (something else I’m not talking about) and we went to breakfast then the train, I missed the memo about that and didn’t have my face on. So our first stop in the city was at Sephora’s so I could get moisturizer with sunscreen. Then we headed up to the crocs store. Em was hoping they would be having clearance sales. They weren’t. But I’m getting ahead of myself. On the way to the Crocs store, Em stopped at this vendor with a sign, $5 glass jewelry. She motioned me to come, “These are kind of pretty.” Even though the Crocs store wasn’t having a clearance sale, she still found some nice sandals, funny shaped I thought but she said they were very comfortable, and in light blue. Next we went to Cafe Frida, our favorite Mayan restaurant for a light lunch, that ended up leaving us full for the rest of the day.

We were walking through Central Park and suddenly Em stopped. “All these times and I never noticed that.” I looked where she was pointing at a water fountain. We watched as a boy pushed a button at the bottom of the fountain and his poodle took a drink. After they left left I walked over and took a closer look. The bottom of the fountain is a bowl, and the spout put water into the bowl, for your dog. New Yorkers love their pets. I thought that was pretty cool. I mean, obviously, cause I took a picture of it.

We then went down to see Ashley so Em could get prices on jewelry and Ashley could look at my ear. My sore pierced ear, except it is no so sore anymore, and very, very pretty.

And I can’t remember what else? We ended up at the Irish pub eating nachos with cheesecake for dessert and I had Kahlua and club soda. Long tiring but fun day.

>My new tattoo

>

This is not a very good picture Logan took it with my phone right after he was done. It already looks much better. It’ll look absolutely fabulous when it is completely healed.

After the tattoo appointment I was walking around looking for a place to eat, I ended up at this bar and grill in the East Village. I sent a text to a friend, “I am eating in a place recommended by a homeless person.” She replied, “Hey, you never know.” The place did have a minus about it from the start, no baseball game, just World Cup. Soccer fans are loud. Then while I was eating I kept hearing this buzzing noise, like a bunch of bees. Vuvuzelas!

The burger was o.k., just a burger and I missed the game, but by the time I got there it was almost over anyway.
