Sliding backwards

“On Sunday, November 15, I will follow in the footsteps of the New York Yankees as part of the seventh annual Damon Runyon 5K at Yankee Stadium – a unique fundraising run/walk that uses the Stadium as its course. I’ll get to explore the concourses and ramps, climb stairs between levels, and take my own victory laps around the warning track that circles the field. – See more at: LINK

This is not a plea for money, however if you want to click on the link and donate I would appreciate it. Rather I posted this so readers would know why I am running. I don’t really like running, I do like how I feel afterwards and I like raising money for Cancer Research. It is a charity that is near and dear to my heart.

There is an app that tracks exercise and besides that I am listing them in a spreadsheet. This is how I know the last four runs I am getting slower. Each run slower than the one before. I’m still faster than when I started and not discouraged.

While I’m tempted to blame this on a variety of factors, blisters on my toes, sore legs, twisted ankle and/or worsening asthma, part of me realizes this is probably just the ups and downs of running and human physiology.

Today I did not want to run. I made a compromise, that I would only run 2 miles. My time was terrible, a friend who I admire as a runner commented on my Facebook post that a “bad run is better than no run”. Support strengthens my resolve.

This October has quite frankly, been awful. What with a friend’s cancer coming back (after 10+ years cancer-free), another friend going to visit her mother who has Alzheimer’s (and sending me text messages “My mom’s really not doing well.”), the episode on the Evil Green Train that I wrote about before, and another one that I didn’t write about but resulted in me missing a day from work, to my allergies and asthma flaring up (that resulted in $100 pharmacy bill) and my rosacea and eczema coming back (another $90), I want a do-over please. Oh did I mention, the Yankees got swept by the Tigers in the ALCS and THERE WAS A MOUSE UNDER MY STOVE!

This title is sort of misleading since Em and I have not stopped our bi-weekly trips to Manhattan, what stopped was I stopped writing about them. Last year was not a good year for blogging for me, this year I have recommitted and decided that every trip will be followed up with a blog post.

Also I will be bringing my camera, which I haven’t done in a while and taking pictures. Not a lot probably, but enough to give you an idea of what we are doing. Em has a lot of food groupons, that is why we will be eating at a variety of places. Saturday lunch was at Oaxaca, 16 Extra Place, Manhattan. It is just a little fast food Mexican place, we each had two chicken molé enchiladas. They were so good, spicy hot with flavor. It’s going on our list, just have to remember where it is. Then we headed to NoHo to see Ashley. Em had to take out her piercings, and one of them was all red now. I wanted to go to the tea place that Ashley tweets about all the time. Em said sure since we didn’t have an agenda. After getting the address from Ashley we headed to Broome St.

We had already had lunch, but decided a little snack was in order, after all it was COLD Saturday and I was still having sinus and asthma problems. Friday was so nice, Saturday was not. So we got tea with scones. The scones were served with cream and jam, thick cream like butter. All very yummy. Em got mint chocolate tea, I got Chinese Black Tea, Golden Snail I think it was called. Em bought some tea and I bought a tall tea cup with an infuser and a lid.

Next stop was a fabric store, that was closed. That turned out to be o.k. because it wasn’t fabric for clothes it was fabric to home furnishing, so now Em can replace the curtains. Dinner was at a place called MotherBurger. It was quite different from Harney and Sons, which was relaxing and quiet, MotherBurger was loud and crowded. But the burgers were good, exactly to order and not to huge.

Our last stop was at Annie Moore’s. Is there any better way to end a day then with bourbon and chocolate cake? Well Em would say scotch and chocolate cake. Of course it wasn’t really the end because we ended up with a sighting of our strange friend with the long spike of hair, red and blue plaid, and some train drama. We had to wait in Harlem for an ambulance for someone on the train.

Speaking of Harlem, does anyone know of any safe neighborhoods for a little white girl to live?

Questions

I have more questions then a kid. I think it’s because I’ve had more time to come up with them. My question today is when you are sick it is called being under the weather. Why is that? And what weather are you under? Are you under good weather or bad weather? I probably could find the answer if I googled, but I don’t feel like it.

Mainly because I am under the weather. It started as a sinus infection. Now the sinuses seem to be clearing up and I have a wicked sore throat and a tightness in my chest. A trip to the doctor is probably in order, except I want my sinus infection to be completely gone. If it’s not gone, my doctor is going to want to do another MRI. Something I do not want to do, I have all these earrings and they are a pain (one of them literally) to take out and put back in. So I am waiting.

On the bright side, it does give me something to blog about.

Lazy then busy

Lazed in bed, just didn’t want to get up today, but I did and cooked some eggs and went to the meeting with the family. Stitch and Tigger are sick. M and I took them to the walk-in clinic. They said they both have colds, but Tigger keeps spiking a fever. M said they (the clinic people) didn’t want to run any tests. She was concerned because of the asthma and because some friends had strep throat last week. Now, that I have this started, I need to go do something with my laundry. I will be back.

Just one thing before I go, I found out why my contact was bothering me, it had a split in it. A big one, so I had to put in new contacts this morning. Sorry about the gas.

It is now 1:06 am, I started reading a book and now I have to go finish my laundry, I am such a dunce. M wants to go to Allsport in the morning. I don’t know what else, oh, the family is going to Patterson to have lunch with Bill and Faye. So I have to finish quickly and go to bed. I will be back to talk to you later.

I Love My Crocs!

I just finished “The Seduction of the Crimson Rose”. It is the 4th book in the “Pink Carnation” series. A take on the Scarlet Pimpernel, except the Pink Carnation is female. I have read the first three books so I took a break from Alan Banks to read it.

I just found out that the husband of one of the Booktalk ladies had to be rushed to the hospital. She was babysitting and when she got home she found him. I sent her an e-mail. I included some of the hummingbird pictures that I will post next. I hope she doesn’t think I am being frivolous, I thought looking at the pretty birds would help her mood.

M’s sisters, mother and nephew are leaving tomorrow. My chest is hurting now and I don’t know why. I used my inhaler and it hasn’t helped. I really want some of that ice cream cake upstairs.

Well, gotta go now.

Weekend of December 16/17

Saturday, 16 December 2006
Busy day today. I cleaned the basement. I paid B.T. to help. We collected garbage, crushed cat litter containers to recycle, swiffered, swept and vacuumed. Then I got out the cleanser and washed the walls, the freezer, and the cabinet and moped the floor. Then I had an asthma attack right before I went to bed!

My arm is sore this morning from all the cleaning yesterday. I took M. to the grocery store this morning, decided to get some things for myself and picked up a 12 pack of 24 oz bottles of water. OW! That hurt. I have had a killer headache all morning. Probably a combination of dust and inhaler. I weighed myself this morning, 131.6 pounds. YAY for me!
