Comment moderation is on

Recently I read the following blog post about getting more comments on your blog. 40 Dead Simple Ways to Get More Comments on Your Blog This was one of the suggestions, copied directly from the post, “10 – Don’t moderate comments. Nothing about the words ‘Your comment is awaiting moderation’ encourages a reader to comment more. Nothing.” The next suggestion seems to be written for me “11 – If you do moderate, approve comments as quickly as possible.” since this blog will always have comment moderation. I am way to much of a control, OCD psychotic freak to just let people write whatever they want and me not approve everything on this blog. Please, you are talking about the person who goes back over 3 month old posts to correct typos. Comment Moderation is on.

However, something that will NEVER be on this blog is word verification. I hate word verification. In fact I was just leaving a comment on a blog when I clicked to post the comment, missed that I needed to put in the word verification and when the page came back up, my comment was gone. So I left the blog, without leaving a comment.

Something else that will never be on this blog is music. When I first started blogging and reading blogs, I would go to some blogs and the music would start. “Oh that is kind of cool” was my first thought, and I searched around trying to figure out how to put it on my blog, I never found out how. But as time went by and I read more blogs, I discovered that a lot of people don’t like it. I would just mute my computer if I didn’t like the music that was playing, but now that I think about it, it is kind of intrusive, putting your taste in music off on your readers, so if you don’t like hearing strange music come out of your computer speakers, this blog is safe for you to read.

That’s all. Says she. Have anything you want to add?

Happiness and joy

“The boy is overcome with happiness and joy. He has his iPad2. He says it is all my fault so he keeps hugging me.”

Those were his exact words. Happiness and joy. His face has been a grin all day. All my fault. I told him, I just loaned you the money. “No,” he says. “You insisted we had to go to the Verizon store before we went to Connecticut.” That’s where the iPad2 was. Probably the only store in the Hudson Valley to have some. Now they have none. The boy has his, Gwen has his old one, and I have the satisfaction of knowing that for today, I have filled his life with happiness and joy.

Now that I have done that, I am unsure what I should be doing the rest of the day. I think I will relax with a book.

Plugged in and tuned out

Today when I got back from lunch one of my co-workers walked into the building before me. As he held the door he was smiling and commented that I was ‘in my own little world.’

Yes I was, just me and the Flobots, or maybe the Foo Fighters. It has to be an F group, I’ve been listening to my F playlist for days. I was plugged into my iPod and tuned out from the world.

This is why the personal safety experts say not to wear headphones or ear buds while running. Because you can’t hear when the serial killer sneaks up behind you to grab your 25 year old, 5’2″, 125 pound body and throw it in his white panel van. Or is the pedophiles that have the white panel van?

Well anyway, the jokes on them because I weigh 136 and am not even in my 20’s. They do check I.D.s don’t they?

Progress and change

Sunday morning I checked the weather and my e-mails like I do every morning. It’s easy with my iPod, just a push of the button, a couple finger taps and I am good to go.

At church that day they were talking about how we have always used the latest technology in our witnessing work and it got me to thinking about how different a little thing, like e-mail is from when I first started using it.

My first experience with e-mail was when I was working for DOCS. It was what is called a dedicated system, in that you could only e-mail other DOCS offices. At this time Juno was popular, it was an e-mail program installed on your computer. My father sent me the program and I had a modem to dial into Juno’s servers. It was sitting on my desk.

It was still sitting there, safe in it’s little box when I interviewed at DEC. One of the questions asked was if I was familiar with e-mail, ‘Oh yes.’ I replied, but as the conversation went on I realized they were talking about real e-mail. I got the job, I went home, put the modem in my computer, installed the program and learned how to use it.

Next was Earthlink, to go online and e-mail still with a dial-up modem and a modest monthly fee.

Today if I want to go online I turn on my laptop or use my iPod. No phone line needed just a router that several computers can use. And e-mail is free, I have 4 e-mail accounts.

Progress and change. In fact, I’m posting this from my iPod with the aid of an app called BlogPress.

All I need

Is a Starbucks and my iPod touch. No laptop required to post a thoughtful collection of words on my blog. Unfortunately time is required and that I am out of.

Tired

That is the only reason I have for not posting. Not writer’s block, I have all these great ideas. Then I look at my computer, and just don’t have the energy to get it out and turn it on. Yesterday I was home and got an e-mail from the library that my book was in, so I went to the gym, then I went to the library to get the book. I took my computer thinking that would be the perfect opportunity, but the wifi wasn’t working. By the time I packed it up and got home, it was time to get Em.

So tonight, as I was playing with my iPod, I got the idea to write about my favorite apps. Since Verizon now has the iPhone, I will probably be getting one in December. Here are two of my favorite apps.

Groupon (free)
Groupons are coupons you buy online, then print out and take to the company that issued it to redeem it. They are for restaurants, spas, museums, classes, bike riding in Central Park and so on. K and I use them all the time when we go to Manhattan.

This app signs into your Groupon account so you can see what you have, you can sort them by ones close to you or in order of expiration date. You can use the app to redeem the Groupon if you don’t want to print it out. You can also buy the current deal through the app.

Starbucks Card Mobile (free but you need to have a Starbucks card)
This has got to be the coolest app ever. I absolutely love it. If you have a Starbucks card, first you need to register it online. Then you get this app, add your card to it and then you can pay at Starbucks with your iPod or iPhone. After you pay, the app updates and give you your new balance. This is my app, yes I have $80 on my Starbucks card. Don’t judge me, yes I’m addicted. It’s a gold card and everytime I get 15 stars I get a coupon for a free drink. I have received a lot of coupons.

I would say these are my favorites, but I have to also mention I have game apps besides Words with Friends, I have Angry Birds, JewelMagic, Spider Solitaire and Word Warp. I also have the following apps iBooks, Kindle, Kobo.books and Nook for reading e-books. I have apps for Weightwatchers and Chase bank, my iPod keeps me pretty much connected with the world and makes my life easier.

My own little rant

I wanted to send this on my train ride in but I couldn’t connect. To anything, NY Times, Twitter or e-mail. I also wasn’t getting any text updates and the e-mail icon wasn’t showing up. I was perplexed, thought maybe it was being on the train that was doing it. So I tried it when I got into work. I could send and receive text messages, but couldn’t go ‘online’. I sat there and stared at my phone, then I thought, it’s a mini computer, when you have a problem with your big computer you reboot. So I pressed the power button and got the shut down, airplane mode, or restart screen. So I touched restart. Problem solved.

What I want to rant about is people who decide they have to disturb you. This morning there were a few seats open, nice seats with nothing on them and plenty of room. This woman decides she has to sit with me. So while I am playing with my phone, trying to get it to work, I have to stop and pick up my stuff so she can sit there.

People drive me crazy.

Go away Ed

Yes Ed found me. I guess that means my blog has ‘arrived’, it is now among the beautiful blogs and I should be flattered. I’m NOT! Go away Ed!

I turned on Comment Moderation, which I hate having to do, I am so lazy and any extra steps are a chore for me. Rest assured if you are a human reader leaving a comment your comment will show up, I check my e-mail daily. If you are Ed (or any other) Icky Spammer, you will be deleted! ZAP!

I have already done a lot today, for me that is, I ate breakfast, went to Lily’s, forgot to stop at the library and put a load of clothes in the washer, as soon as it is done, I am hanging it up and then making some eggs cause I am hungry again! Well it is 11:00 and cereal never stays with me long. I finished Blue Diary, finally! I have to write a review, I have a lot to say about it. I thought it was a very good book. I listened to a little bit of Mortal Fear on my computer, I will finish listening to it on my MP3 player. The last time I tried listening to a book, it expired and I never got it from the library to read it, I just lost interest in it. My weight is up from last week, but it may be down before I weigh in, since it is down from yesterday. I will just be so careful today, which will be hard since I am going to a barbecue today. I will just have to do my best. Em wants to go shopping so we will probably leave early. And I just found out I have hall cleaning, so I will have to do that after I hang up my clothes and eat.

Well, I had to spin my clothes out again. So I didn’t get to the hall. I also didn’t know what time the barbecue was. I found out, I hung my clothes up. I brought the dry clothes in my room and threw them on my bed, I will take care of them later. My GPS wouldn’t turn on when I left for the barbecue so I was driving down the street looking for the road her house is on and didn’t know if I had passed it or not, so I turned off and around, I finally got the GPS on and put the wrong street in! By this time, Em was texting me, “Are you lost?” If I don’t use my GPS for a long time, it won’t turn on when I need it. Since I know this, I should turn it on the day before I need it. But I never remember this. Anyway, Em and I left the barbecue early, we weren’t having a good time, the food was awful and not a very good variety, and nothing to do, just sit around and talk, Stitch was getting antsy with the people and Gwen was still not feeling well. So we went home, Em and I went to Allsport, then the mall. We got makeup and I got a skirt at, duh, can’t remember, it was $10 originally $40. Now it is 1:30 am so I should get to bed, but before I do, watched the new show on BBC America called Primeval. Had a scary centipede on it, about 8 feet long and poisonous.
