>It is the perfect day

>for umbrella hunting, I thought, as I stood on the train platform in my hooded sweat jacket and polka dot rain boots. The weather had been cold and we got snow, then it cleared up and we had had bright, sunny days, but still cold. Now it had warmed up and was raining.

Many people had umbrellas and I watched them. Long umbrellas like canes, short ones folded up ones to fit in a brief case or pocket book. Mostly black, but one with tan and black in a checkerboard pattern, one clear plastic with pink trim and one pink nylon one. One that looked like it was broken, but was still in use.
The wind blew across the platform giving me a momentary chill and a smile. Yes a perfect day for umbrella hunting. Would I be successful? Only time will tell.

>I was so annoyed

>This morning started good, well sort of good. Had to wear my jacket because all my clean tops are too thin and small. Caught my train, was sitting nice and comfy, and what happened? I’m sure you can guess, equipment change in Croton. So I got to stand from Croton to Grand Central Terminal. Joy. I hope tomorrow the same thing doesn’t happen, from things I heard, it might.

Oh and my teapot came. I didn’t open it, I am taking it to work.

>Lunch Yesterday

>My old boss Gary (not his real name) sent me an e-mail. Not an unusual happening, we still work for the same Department, just he’s in a different region. He wants to get together for lunch or a drink. So we decided on yesterday.

Then came the deciding where to go and e-mails back and forth, we decided on a place. He tells me what train station he’ll pick me up at. The region he works in is next to the region I work in and I actually live in the region he works in, kind of funny, no? Oh well, back to lunch. So in the morning he sends me an e-mail, there was a sewage spill, and the parking lot at the train station he is picking me up at was flooded. He quips, “Good thing you are wearing your boots.” Below freezing? Bet your ass I’m wearing boots. Anyway, I get off the train and look at the parking lot, didn’t see any spill, he picks me up, drives through the parking lot and doesn’t see anything. We head on to lunch, and he calls the Regional Director to report on the parking lot.

Gary was underimpressed with the restaurant. I thought it was O.K. We decided to get drinks and a salad and head someplace else. I was kind of craving Mexican, hadn’t had any in a while. He checked out the tattoo on my shoulder and asked if he could see all my tattoos. “You just did Gary.” I had Kahlúa and club soda and he had a Bombay Sapphire Martini.

On the way to the restuarant, since he had gotten a call from the Regional Director we went back to the train station, drove further into the parking lot and found the spill, then Gary says, “There’s the Regional Director.” So we all got out and looked at the spill. It was a mess, there was water flowing everywhere and a grate had been removed leaving a 2×3 foot opening in the parking lot. Quite a safety hazard. Gary got on the phone with Westchester County to report it and tell them, they needed to send somebody to take care of it. Then we (Gary and I, the RD had to leave) drove down this road to see if we could find the actual break and found two (2) Westchester County trucks (well one truck and one car). That being done we resumed our quest for Mexican food. We headed for Dobbs Ferry.

“Dobbs Ferry,” Gary says, “Is loaded with restaurants.” We stopped at this little place (probably no bigger then my living room) with bad insulation, a surly waiter/bartender/cook, no wait, I think the busboy was the cook. Anyway, the food was good, I had beans and cheese enchilada in molé sauce with rice and black beans. Gary had a burrito. He asked the waiter if it came with anything. He looked confused and said, “No sir, everything’s inside.” We ordered our drinks, Gary got a margarita I got a Negra Modelo. The food came out right away, Gary looked at the burrito and said, “I’m glad I didn’t order anything else (as in additional food).” It was HUGE!

Having a little while to kill before I had to catch the train we started looking for another place. The restaurant was too COLD to wait there. The first place wasn’t open yet, the second place I wasn’t too crazy about going to, it was the place Gary had taken me a Christmas before and I got sick. Oh, you didn’t hear about that? Well if you didn’t, you’re not going to hear about it here.

We ended up at the second place, sitting in the bar, waiting for the train. I had a sort of martini with Pomegranate liqueur and vodka, kind of so-so. Gary had bourban. Then I had a Sombrero with a splash of Baileys added. It was very good. I will have to remember that. I took this picture from the parking lot, can’t you see how cold it was? Does anyone else think the river looks angry? I think in wintertime the river gets an angry look. Maybe I had too much to drink. Nah …..

Warm hands

I was visiting the blogs on my blogroll and came across a post titled “warm heart makes warm hands” on Out and About in New York City. As I looked at the picture I thought, those look very familiar, …

I started digging around in my winter stuff stash and ta da! Mine sadly are not wool, I am allergic to wool. I am also consumed with envy because mine are not as pretty and after sitting in a bag they smell like dust. I sniffed them too many times and sneezed several times. Now, if I could only remember where I put the directions …

>Rob Thomas

>The concert was great. So why did it take me two days to get back here to blog about it? Umm …. I was recovering? No, we had our Circuit Assembly and I had to go. It was a promise I made to go to the concert.

Ever been to Mohegan Sun? Since I don’t gamble I have never been. I didn’t know that casinos also put on concerts. Anyway, the bathrooms have plastic on the toilets, and there are these green things, a round disc on the wall with a motion sensor or a green button on the back of the toilet to push, and the plastic goes around so you have fresh plastic to sit on. Of course I didn’t do it, I mean, I use the public restroom in GCT, I’m going to worry about the restroom in the middle of nowhere, Connecticut? I did wave my hand in front of the green disc after just to see if it worked, and it did. Yeah I know, some of you are shaking your heads at me. :p
Em and I had dinner at The Dubliner

An authentic and lively 3,000 square-foot Irish Pub, The Dubliner features traditional pub fare, including Guinness Stew, Bangers and Champ, Corned Beef and Cabbage and much more. Choose from an assortment of beers on tap, enjoy a cocktail with friends at the bar or relax by the fireplace. At The Dubliner, you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to the heart of Ireland.

Going to the restroom I encountered this sign:

And then this sign:
So glad they had the English up there, could have been embarrassing. And inside the ladies room was this sign:

No idea what this means, maybe somebody could help me? Anybody?

Dinner for me was ‘Bangers and Mash’ (sausage and mashed potatoes). Em had a Caesar salad with chicken. I had this specialty Vodka and caramel drink for dessert, kind of yummy, I think, I don’t really remember. Then we walked around and looked at the shops until we could go in the arena.

I was going to get a Rob Thomas hat like Em got in NY when she went to see Rob at the Beacon, but they didn’t have any. I got a wristband that has the concert in a USB thingy and in a day or two I can download the encore. The opening act at Mohegan Sun was Ryan Star. Em bought his CD, which he was going to be signing during the intermission so Em sent me down to do that. The picture is kind of blurry I know. Also, before he was done with his act, I dropped the CD, it fell down into the row below, so I just climbed down and got it. Someone should tell me I am not a teenager anymore, I now have a huge bruise on my left knee.

Getting the CD signed I didn’t get back until Rob had already started Fire on the Mountain. Then there he was! Rob Thomas! Ok, this is really what I saw:

We were glad we went to Mohegan Sun, his concert at the Borgata was cancelled and rescheduled for January 9, 2010.

>Gwen dragged me out of bed this morning

>The text messages started at 8:06 am:
Gwen: u up? no1 els is 😦 im lonely, n i cant slep nemor 😦

Me: I’m awake

Gwen: u doin nething rite now? im just curious cuz i cant do my chores til othr ppl r up so im bored n lonely

Gwen: u kno watl warm us up? cleaning the basement. n no1 can cumplan cuz they cant hear us dwn there. u think is good idea?

For the record, I didn’t say I was cold I said it was cold, I didn’t need to warm up because I was in my nice warm bed and had no intention of getting out from under my blankets! I was also having cramps. However, I hate saying no to any of them so she came downstairs, I got up and threw my navy sweatpants on so now I have dark blue lint on my gray tights. Yes I wore my tights to bed, they kept my legs warm!

It was nasty out today. Icing conditions so our meeting was cancelled. Next Friday is supposed to be nice, which will work out good for Em and I going to see Rob Thomas. December is turning out to be a good month!

Rain Rain Go Away

Em and I decided to go to the city today. Trying to make up for last week. She also had a nail appointment. After stopping at Starbucks for yogurt and a cup of tea, we started out. We were extremely early, but Em wanted to see the shops at Bryant Park. First though we stopped at Sephora because we both had coupons.

They had some pretty nice stuff at Bryant Park, this one place had this beautiful Amethyst necklace that I want. Em and I will definitely be back. I want to go when I have some money but after I get my next tattoo. I will be posting a picture when I get it. As Em said, a tattoo is forever but a necklace can get broken or lost.

These are spinners, you hang them up inside or outside and they spin. They are really neat looking. Unfortunately it was a little on the chilly side, and it started raining. D had said it was going to stop, but when I checked the weather forecast, that’s not what it said, and it didn’t. After she was done getting her nails done and we were looking for someplace to get lunch, it was so cold and nasty she asked me if I wanted to head back to GCT and get lunch at Annie Moore’s. I said yes. I was especially glad to leave after the taxi drove through the water so fast I got splashed in my face!
I really wanted pictures of Central Park with snow. It was supposed to snow, but it didn’t. Actually it did start to snow. When we were on the train headed home. **pout**

>I hate when this happens

>yesterday I was thinking about what I was going to post, I was ‘writing’ it in my head. Then when I came to post, I completely forgot about it. Then I remembered.

Those of you who have been following my life story (besides deserving a medal for perseverance) know that I have had my ears pierced 4 times. As in four separate holes. You also know that the fourth hole has been giving me trouble. Yesterday it was cold so I wore my headband, at the end of the day, when Em and I were leaving the grocery store, my ears were really bothering me. I mentioned to Em that I was seriously considering taking out the fourth earring and letting the holes heal over and just forgetting about it. She said, yes you could do that, but you paid all that money to get them pierced. I added, and my ears look so cute with the little diamonds in them! Then when I went to take my shower, I took the diamonds in the fourth hole out so my hair wouldn’t catch on them and pull, and the hole in my left ear started bleeding again! Sigh.

Today was not as cold, but it was windy! I thought this jacket might be too warm to wear today since the temperature was in the 60’s, but with the wind, it was perfect.

>We left for Buffalo between 4 and 4:30 this a.m. Yesterday I rented a Dodge Avenger so we could travel in comfort. So it was pitch black when we left and pouring down rain. Does it seem to anybody else that it is always darker when its raining? Well yeah cause the rain clouds block the stars and moon! Besides that, I firmly believe that Dodge vehicles are not designed for short people, my reason for believing that is I could not see over the hood of the car! On top of that my GPS was not working and Gwen couldn’t find the right directions. Both of those problems were soon fixed. I drove for 4 hours then Stitch drove the last 4 and now we are in Buffalo.

This is what we are all doing, Michelle is on Facebook (so am I, while also typing this here) and the kids are entertaining their friend by playing Wii with him and just now they are hooking up the x-box for him. So it is almost like being at home. Stitch is sleeping poor baby so tired, he has been up since three, kind of like I have!

>Went down Saturday, it was forecast to rain so Em brought ponchos she had bought for the Loggins & Messina concert, that she ended up not using since it didn’t rain when they went. I wore my hat and my denim jacket, just in case. Em had an appointment to get her nails done. After breakfast at Pershing Square Cafe we walked around a little then went to the nail salon early, she decided she also needed a pedicure. So then my adventure started, I didn’t want to wait there, and I was wanting to get my hair cut. So I walked toward 3rd Ave., I had gone online and got the address for Supercuts. I was going there but somehow I turned on the wrong street (big surprise there), however, I saw a sign for haircuts $20 and decided to go in and see. I told the woman at the counter that I wanted a hair cut, she pantomimed cutting with her fingers, “Cut?”, then pantomimed washing hair, “Massage?” (I must admit at this point the little voice in my head was yelling at me ‘RUN! Run for your life!’) I said “No, just cut.” She nods her head and indicates a chair for me to sit in, proceeds to wet my hair and comb it. As for the voice in my head, I told it to just shut up, it was only hair. After a few more hand gestures, thumb and forefinger apart and then measuring on the hair, she proceeded to trim approximately 1 1/2 inches off the length which was not as much as I wanted trimmed off, but that is better then a too short haircut, I don’t have to let anything grow out. I told Em, “Now I feel confident about getting my hair cut in a foreign country.”

Of course after getting my hair cut (no pictures, the style is the same anyway) and paying extra to get it blow dried, I came out of the salon to heavy rain. Grr! It was supposed to stop! I walked back to the nail place and Em was just leaving. I actually was standing across the street and watched her send me a text message. Then I yelled at her for not stopping the rain. We started walking. She had heard about a restaurant, more of a burger place really, and wanted to put it in her book so we had to try it out. It is on 79th Street, at the end where it runs into the Hudson River.

So we walked all the way up to 79th Street, then all the way to the river, which actually at that point is no longer considered a river to the Boat Basin Cafe. Kind of cute inside. Em said it is open year round, it must get freaking cold in the winter. What I didn’t realize, but should have, is the restaurant is located under the overpass, which is kind of a roundabout really.

This is the overpass that goes over the restaurant, we walked along side of this and then walked down some stairs that curved around, so I should have figured out that the restaurant was under it, but I didn’t, not until I went to the bathroom and on the way back looked up and saw the road signs above.
