>Postcard Friendship Friday #4

>This is another of the postcards I bought while visiting my parents in Washington State. I like how this has a frame effect in it.

The back of it simply says:

The card I posted last week, I forgot to take a close look at the back, on its back is printed:

“PRIORITIES”

$5.00. Address: 2485 Alaska Avenue East, Pt. Orchard, WA

>Postcard Friendship Friday #3

>Back to PFF and I missed Marie, so I am hoping to keep this more regular from now on.

There is a little story to this one, kind of personal if no one minds. My father is an alcoholic, has been since before I was born, he stopped drinking a few years back. I went to visit about a year after he quit drinking. My first time ever seeing him, not under the influence. So we went to the grocery store to get dinner because my mother was ‘not feeling well so lets pick something up so she doesn’t have to cook.’ HUH? OK Dad. My dad was looking at this postcard and said, ‘This guy has his priorities wrong.’ And all I could think was, well Dad, you should know about messed up priorities. I mean he never did anything like this, but for most of his life, he had his priorities messed up. Of course I had to buy it, because it reminds me that 70 years old my Dad made a major change for the better.

>I am typing another blog post. I also upgraded my setting and want to see how they work.

First of all, I thought I had told you about my last piercing. It was on our last trip to the city. The one we made when we had no power at home. I was going to title it, ‘Getting the HELL out of Dodge’. By the number of people at the train station it appeared we were not the only ones with that thought. The snow was very pretty, but heavy, the trees branches were bending under the weight. While Em was getting her nails done I went to the library, the big one this time and used their computer to go on-line. I even typed a blog post. I wanted to stay there all day, it was warm and the rooms are filled with books. I also learned something. People don’t go to this library to get books. They go to do research, to go online, take tours and take pictures. Isn’t that interesting?

When Em was done with her nails I had to leave. I had planned and saved for my cartilage piercing. So we trekked down to Maria Tash to get it done. Ashley and I had been tweeting each other so she was expecting me. This is the not spot I wanted to have pierced, but I decided to go with her suggestion, she is the professional, I was actually thinking about getting my Tash Rook pierced, but I decided to go with the cartilage. Blue diamond for the Yankees.

Well, now that I have talked about the concert and Manhattan, I will take a break.

>Today is my regular Wednesday off and what am I doing? Sitting on my bed with my laptop and a box of tissue. No I am not watching a sad movie, I have a cold. On my day off! That totally stinks, except I won’t have to use a day of sick time. Except I probably would have gone into work if it wasn’t my day off and I could have infected everyone there. Bwaaaaaa!

Now I have to decide if I want to blog about the concert or Em and my trip to the city. The concert was last Thursday in Manhattan and when Em and I went to the city we did our usual, which you are probably tired of hearing about, so lets go with the concert.

First you’ll notice it was in a ballroom, not the nicest venue I’ve been in, but O.K. We were on the 7th floor, which was alright until we had to leave and walk down the stairs.

Security was really tight. I only had my purse, which I have started doing for concerts and such, only carry one bag, I put it down for the security person to check (and she really checked it, didn’t just glance in it) and turned so the other one could search me, just a quick pat down, checked my pockets and pant legs, as she was doing this the girl checking my purse said ‘OH!’ kind of loud, at first I thought she might have found my knife, but she was pulling on my camera bag and saying, “This is so nice! Look how pretty it is!” The other security girl comes over (hey, they looked like they were half my age, so they are girls) and she is talking about it, then she suddenly looks up at me waiting for her, and realizes they are holding the elevator for me, so she quickly stuffs it back in my purse and hands it to me. I thought that was funny.

For the encore the lead singer invited everybody up to the front which is how I got this nice picture. It would have been nicer except, see that big head? He was swaying back and forth in front of me. I hate when tall people do that! What? Yes I know, most adults are taller then me.
So that’s about it for the concert, we had a great time, I got to bed at 1:15 a.m., started my next day with a cinnamon latte instead of hot tea and oatmeal, but its all good.

Top Paterson Official Resigns

The cabinet official who supervises the state police has resigned in the wake of a report of intervention by the state police and Gov. David A. Paterson into a domestic-assault case against a senior Paterson aide.

The official, Denise E. O’Donnell, deputy secretary for Public Safety issued a statement Thursday after inquiries from The New York Times.

“The fact that the Governor and members of the State Police have acknowledged direct contact with a woman who had filed for an order of protection against a senior member of the Governor’s staff is a very serious matter,” she wrote. “These actions are unacceptable regardless of their intent.”

The resignation, at 2 p.m., came on a day when New York’s political establishment reeled at the news of Mr. Paterson’s involvement, with some of the beleaguered governor’s few remaining allies publicly suggesting that he should end his campaign for election.

>Yes, sometimes commuting is an adventure especially if you don’t know if you will make make it home without being arrested.

The adventure begins when I check my facebook status, what? No of course I wasn’t using my work computer. One of the kids had posted,
Oh bother. Then I got a text message from another child with the same message along with the suggestion to come home, nothing to do about it. Of course then I’m wondering if I get to Beacon if I’ll be able to get home from the train station. Without walking that is. So after opening the mail and putting the new toner in the storeroom I re-suited up to go outside.

In the two block walk, my coat got soaked, bottom two inches of my jeans got soaked, the back of my calves got soaked … but I did get a shot of a broken umbrella!

Then it was to Dishes for a grilled cheese sandwich because, I was hungry. Then to find a seat with a table, reason being the last time I ate a Dishes grilled cheese sandwich without a table I lost half of my sandwich to the floor. ‘Excuse me Miss, does your umbrella need its own seat? Thought so.’ “Side Car Dining Area” (should have taken a picture of that) usually has empty tables and chairs. I dumped my heavy bags on a chair and sat across from them and ate my sandwich. I like Dishes grilled cheese sandwich, except when they burn it.

My story has to end now, or at least pause, I am on the train and looking out the window at the snow covered earth. The next stage begins in Beacon.

>How did this all get started?

>Iota Manhattan of Not wrong, just different recently posted about when she first started blogging, she was reminiscing about bloggers she knew from long ago.

It got me started thinking about my blog, how long its been around and why I started it, and why I keep going.

I created this blog (with a different name) on November 27, 2006 and my first post was titled; “First Post” (you can go back and check for yourself, but I would prefer if you didn’t). I was a member of Weight Watchers back then and wanted to keep track of my progress and my thoughts, on the WW website, you can track your weight and interact with others, but I wanted to just talk about what I was experiencing and thought a blog would work. Also, I have kept a diary since I was about 10, rather sporadically, but I kept going back, that was another reason for starting a blog.

Putting my thoughts on the internet seemed safe, after all, who would want to read what I wrote? Then on December 21, 2006, someone commented. I had been going happily along writing whatever the fuck I wanted, now I was scared, people were reading! Then after that comment, nothing and I mean absolutely nothing, until the fall of 2008. Even then, I have never had a ton of comments. The most was when I joined a meme, Postcard Friday Friendship (which I can’t keep steadily at due to my ADD), and sometimes I get a wee bit jealous of some bloggers who get a ton of comments on their blog. But that’s how it goes, I have regular readers and some who comment of Facebook. I feel like I have a little circle of friends, kind of like my life, a small circle of people who know me and love me anyway.

Over the years this blog has changed, as have I. The name has changed and the content, I’ve joined Twitter and Facebook and linked my blogs to them. I learned simple html commands so I can manipulate a few things. And blogger has added things to make blogging better. I created other blogs, one for book reviews, one for crafts and one devoted to the New York Yankees. Some people wonder how I manage 4 blogs, well it’s like this, I try to post in this blog everyday, the others are more event specific and when something happens (I read a book, I make something, I go to a game) then I blog in them. One new thing is pages, I am considering adding a page to this blog and linking to the posts where my poetry is. I might even write more poetry who knows, inspiration comes and goes.

What was I saying?

I have this thing where I feel I need to write things in sequential order. For example, I don’t want to blog about Monday before I blog about the weekend. Not that anything exciting happened either time. Just that my thoughts about Monday have to come after my thoughts about the weekend. Which is kind of stupid, I think, but I still have a problem with it. I could always blog about my weekend now in this e-mail post, but I had pictures to go with it. Not special pictures, just of the mountain and the clouds.

Last night I was going to post the pictures and everything, but I won an award on my other blog so I had to take care of that. Acceptance speech, where to send the money, who to invite to the ceremony, I kid. After I did all that is involved in a blog award it was late and I had to check my messages and then had to reply. There are some people I drop everything to reply to. There are others … well you know. It’ll be a cold day in ….
On Saturday Em and I ordered tires for Amy. Stitch has been having to put air in one of the tires every other day, or every third day, I forget. So the tires are ordered and when they come in he can take the car and get the tires put on. Then we went to Danbury since she wanted to go to Sephora. Of course that is a dangerous place to go for me, I now want some glitter eyeshadow from Urban Decay. I put some on and it looked so cool. OK I now have my happenings out of order, I will just have to deal.
On the way to Danbury she told me D has decided on surgery rather then radiation treatments. Actually she told me Friday, in a text message, in her text message she said, “If momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy”. Saturday she told me, ‘D told the kids last night he was having surgery.’ It is scheduled for May 4 which coincidentally is the day before their anniversary. I’m guessing, (and this is just a guess, based on previous conversations with her) that when she told him that if he got his parts irradiated, there would be no sex until the radiation was out of his system, he started leaning toward surgery. Sometimes, men are so easy. When they are not being freakin’ idiots that is.
There was more I was going to say, it has departed the brain. Yesterday morning I was 135.8, so I am happy happy. 20 pounds to go to my goal goal, .8 to my first goal. With a little bit to lose, I celebrate every 5 pounds.

>Friday with a friend

>My old boss Gary (not his real name) sent me an e-mail. Actually, he had mentioned getting together again the last time we had lunch, so the e-mail was to tell me he couldn’t make it the day he suggested. He wanted to go the next Friday since it was Restaurant Week in NYC.

That didn’t work out either, however I noticed the website said some restaurants were extending the week to the end of the month. The restaurant I wanted to go to was Angelo & Maxie’s Steakhouse on Park Ave South at 19th Street which I had never been to, but I have been to Maxie’s Grill around the corner. I called them and I was told, “Yes the Restaurant week prices are in effect for the whole month.” So I made a reservation for last Friday, the 12th, for Gary and me. In case you don’t know what Restaurant Week is, twice a year restaurants offer three-course, prix-fixe meals for $24.07 for lunch, $35 for dinner. The first week in February is one of the times it is offered.

The first course was a choice of House or Caesar Salad or Soup of the Day. Gary had the House Salad and I had Split Pea Soup. The salad was huge, and I got a full bowl of soup. I hadn’t finished it by the time the second course got there. Second course was choice of Grilled Filet Mignon (au poivre or béarnaise available)
Charbroiled New York Sirloin Steak
1 ½ pound Herb-Roasted Chicken
Broiled Salmon over Fresh Sautéed Vegetables

Gary got the NY Strip and I got the Filet Mignon with nothing on it. It was cooked to perfection and oh so tender. I ate every bite. Dessert was a choice of Cheesecake, Ice cream or Fresh Fruit. I got the Cheesecake, Gary got the Fresh Fruit, I think, to tell the truth, I was at the end of my very large Makers Mark Manhattan and he could have gotten just about anything and I wouldn’t have noticed. Anyway, the cheesecake was a chocolate marbled cheesecake and drizzled with raspberry sauce. It was also very delicious. And the service was impeccable, our server was pleasant, we were not ignored at any time during the meal. We got a basket of bread at almost the instant we sat down, someone came by to take our drink order even before the server got to us, dishes were picked up when done, crumbs were swept off the table when they took the dishes.

When we left Gary wanted to walk up Madison because, that’s where all the bars are. We found two right away, the first one I don’t remember the name, I do remember it is over a hundred years old and the barmaid was Irish. They also had Rugby jerseys up on the wall and Arkansas Razerback stuff. Quite interesting. The other bar is pictured here, I have more pictures in my slideshow in my sidebar, including the ‘country’ decor and an old railroad train car(I think that is what it was). We ended our trip at the Mexican place in GCT where Gary had his usual margarita and I had my Kahlúa and cream.
