>A Social Network

>In case you’ve been living under a rock, “A Social Network” is a movie about Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin, the founders/creators of Facebook. No this is not a review of the movie.

I went to see A Social Network with my best friend’s (who I have been living with for the last 20+ years) 3 boys. The opening scene is Mark Zuckerberg in a bar with the girl he was dating, less then 5 minutes into this scene, Nick leans over and says, “This guy (Mark Zuckerberg) is an asshole.” I replied, “No, he has Asperger’s Syndrome.” Nick replies, “Yes he does, he’s worse than dad and Andrew.” Pauses “But he’s still a dick.”

How much of an Aspie is Mark Zuckerberg? He’s a billionaire and he still can’t get a date, of course I would date him, but I love aspies(my friend pointed that wasn’t the only thing, he’s also a billionaire and I have no ethics, maybe so, but because I understand aspies, I would last more than one date). I just saw it again with the friend whose children I took the first time. The whole way through the movie she kept saying, “That’s my husband.”

When I first thought of doing this post, it was because I read a tweet about a man (referred to as an autism father, I assume that means he is a father with a child with autism) who said, “Let me tell you how it is.” Even though I am not a parent, I know there is a fallacy in that statement. Even in the exact same situation there are differences in persons with the same disorder. The friend I mentioned above has 4 children, her husband has Asperger’s Syndrome. Her oldest son and daughter have Asperger’s Syndrome combined with Bi-polar disorder. Her middle son has ADHD and the youngest has ADHD with Bi-polar disorder. It’s a fun house to live in. All are different even though all have the same home situation.

Her oldest was talking at 10 months old. He would line up his cars in a ruler straight line. At 18 months old his favorite video was a documentary about whales, he would watch it every day. He would tell people facts about whales. Such as what they ate, the fact they don’t have teeth, which whale is the largest in the world. Even today as an adult he has trouble with colloquial expressions. My friend told him to run the vacuum. He stood there wondering, where she wanted him to run the vacuum to. We were watching a T.V. show and one of the characters ordered food with extra raw onions. He asked how to get onions to be extra raw? I explained to him, he means an extra amount of onions.

Her daughter on the other hand, didn’t speak, wouldn’t make eye contact and didn’t like to be touched. She still doesn’t. Unless she was obsessed and fixated on something, we had no idea if she liked something.

All growing up with identical situations, all different. So you should never say, “I’ll tell you what’s it’s like.” or judge someone else based on your life experiences. We are all different.

>I saw a deer

>Day 3 of Weight Watchers, and it is harder then I remember. Either that or I just have gotten used to eating whatever I want, which of course is why I gained 25 pounds. Now don’t worry, I’m not going to start listing what I ate here, I do that on Facebook. Right now I am not really changing what I am eating, just cutting out the junk. Now I am the ‘if I eat it I have to count it’ and when I look at how many points is in a bag of chips …. I weighed myself and I am up a pound from Saturday. No, I don’t think I have gained, it was the end of the day and Saturday I weighed in the morning.

The plan was also to get back to Allsport, except when I got home my car was not here. So instead I went for a walk. Gwen went with me, we walked to Ron’s then home. On the way home, walking past the park I looked up on the grass and a deer was standing there watching us. I stopped Gwen and pointed she looked up at the deer and I gave it a little wave, when I did that it flipped its tail at me. No I am not kidding, making this up or delusional. I was getting my phone out to take a picture when it really started waving its tail around and I knew it was gonna run away, and it did.

This is not the first time I have seen deer in this park, once before I saw a whole family. The really amazing thing? This park is in the middle of town.

>My New Phone

>

I mentioned I got a Palm Pre Plus Mobile Phone, except it is a smart phone. So far I just love it. It fits in my hand nicely, has wi-fi and 3G so I can go online. It has an ap for Facebook and Twitter, I can sync it with my Google calendar so if for some reason I have to replace it any appointments I have put in it will also be online so I won’t lose them. I also can get all my e-mails to it. The only thing I don’t like is that since I have my e-mail and facebook and twitter, I now feel like I should lock the phone, and that can be a pain sometimes. I also have to carry my charging cord with me since the battery doesn’t last all day. However, I did find out that my portable, solar powered charger that I bought for my iPod, will charge it.

It came with this nifty little pouch, which Tigger insists I use and I am, unfortunately I didn’t have it in the pouch when I dropped it on the sidewalk. More unfortunately, Tigger was with me when it happened. I told him it was just a little scratched. He replied it was extremely scratched. Later I told Em, maybe he won’t want to play with it now. No Such Luck.

>Tigger and Em

>Were in the city today. They had an appointment at John Jay College. Tigger really liked it and would like to go there. He really loves the city as you can see from his Facebook update:

Then afterwards they walked around. Went to Shake Shack and got shakes, went to see the Dragon movie in 3D. I met up with them after work for dinner. Em and I split a hamburger at Annie Moore’s. Tigger had chicken fingers, since we were at Annie Moore’s we had to get Fred chicken too. They cook the chicken just right there.

>last night and this morning

>I have a hard time coming up with new and exciting titles.

I was going to do the PFF this week, but I haven’t hooked my scanner up to my new laptop yet and last night when I got home I just didn’t feel like it. I will have to tonight because I absolutely positively have to do my taxes.

Stitch wanted me to put some gas in the car so I asked the boy if he wanted to go to the Verizon store. Of course he said yes. I wanted to look at the Palm Pre again, he showed me this phone that looked indestructable. “That would be good for younger brother” I said. He agreed with me, then we looked at the Palm Pre and he was trying to show me stuff and I was trying to get him to leave me alone so I could play with it. I didn’t like the way it showed Twitter, he said the ap is better then the web (WTF?). I do like the way the Facebook ap looks. So I do believe I have decided on my next phone.

This morning I had an interesting commute. I normally don’t talk to the people on the train, I mean I say “Hello” or “Good morning”. Since I am not a morning person, by any stretch of the imagination, I am not very friendly in the morning, especially that early in the morning. Riding the same time and in the same car you see the same people. There is this woman that gets on where I do and gets off at Croton. This other man (who is also a regular) was saying he was looking for some new places to eat, she was talking about some places and she was talking about a fish restaurant in a blue building but she couldn’t remember the name of the restaurant, she told him, “Just google ‘fish restaurant in Croton’.” So he tried using voice command on his iPhone but it wasn’t working so I took out my phone went to Google and found the restaurant name for her. She was very appreciative and thanked me about 4 times. That always amazes me, people who are thankful for the least little thing.

>Still powerless

>I am sitting in my car, sometime today I remembered that I had a charger for my phone that plugs into my car’s power outlet, so I am charging my phone. Without internet access this is the only way I can reach out to my friends. I am sure some are saying ‘What a whiney brat, why doesn’t she just shut up?’. Those people can just go read another blog, no don’t leave! I’ll be good, I promise.

Even though I can send e-mails to post, I haven’t been able to read anybody elses blogs (and this phone doesn’t have spell check). Em and I are going to the city tomorrow and I will be going to the library to use their computers, but they have a 45 minute limit on the computer and that is nowhere near long enough for what I want to do online.

Well I have to check Facebook, twitter and ditl, then I am turning my phone off so it can charge.

>Adventures in Commuting

>Yes, sometimes commuting is an adventure especially if you don’t know if you will make make it home without being arrested.

The adventure begins when I check my facebook status, what? No of course I wasn’t using my work computer. One of the kids had posted,
Oh bother. Then I got a text message from another child with the same message along with the suggestion to come home, nothing to do about it. Of course then I’m wondering if I get to Beacon if I’ll be able to get home from the train station. Without walking that is. So after opening the mail and putting the new toner in the storeroom I re-suited up to go outside.

In the two block walk, my coat got soaked, bottom two inches of my jeans got soaked, the back of my calves got soaked … but I did get a shot of a broken umbrella!

Then it was to Dishes for a grilled cheese sandwich because, I was hungry. Then to find a seat with a table, reason being the last time I ate a Dishes grilled cheese sandwich without a table I lost half of my sandwich to the floor. ‘Excuse me Miss, does your umbrella need its own seat? Thought so.’ “Side Car Dining Area” (should have taken a picture of that) usually has empty tables and chairs. I dumped my heavy bags on a chair and sat across from them and ate my sandwich. I like Dishes grilled cheese sandwich, except when they burn it.

My story has to end now, or at least pause, I am on the train and looking out the window at the snow covered earth. The next stage begins in Beacon.

>How did this all get started?

>Iota Manhattan of Not wrong, just different recently posted about when she first started blogging, she was reminiscing about bloggers she knew from long ago.

It got me started thinking about my blog, how long its been around and why I started it, and why I keep going.

I created this blog (with a different name) on November 27, 2006 and my first post was titled; “First Post” (you can go back and check for yourself, but I would prefer if you didn’t). I was a member of Weight Watchers back then and wanted to keep track of my progress and my thoughts, on the WW website, you can track your weight and interact with others, but I wanted to just talk about what I was experiencing and thought a blog would work. Also, I have kept a diary since I was about 10, rather sporadically, but I kept going back, that was another reason for starting a blog.

Putting my thoughts on the internet seemed safe, after all, who would want to read what I wrote? Then on December 21, 2006, someone commented. I had been going happily along writing whatever the fuck I wanted, now I was scared, people were reading! Then after that comment, nothing and I mean absolutely nothing, until the fall of 2008. Even then, I have never had a ton of comments. The most was when I joined a meme, Postcard Friday Friendship (which I can’t keep steadily at due to my ADD), and sometimes I get a wee bit jealous of some bloggers who get a ton of comments on their blog. But that’s how it goes, I have regular readers and some who comment of Facebook. I feel like I have a little circle of friends, kind of like my life, a small circle of people who know me and love me anyway.

Over the years this blog has changed, as have I. The name has changed and the content, I’ve joined Twitter and Facebook and linked my blogs to them. I learned simple html commands so I can manipulate a few things. And blogger has added things to make blogging better. I created other blogs, one for book reviews, one for crafts and one devoted to the New York Yankees. Some people wonder how I manage 4 blogs, well it’s like this, I try to post in this blog everyday, the others are more event specific and when something happens (I read a book, I make something, I go to a game) then I blog in them. One new thing is pages, I am considering adding a page to this blog and linking to the posts where my poetry is. I might even write more poetry who knows, inspiration comes and goes.

>a funny thing happened

>yesterday morning. I was at the train station as per usual, the train pulled in and we all crowded around the doors waiting for them to open, and waiting, and waiting. In a kind of half whisper voice I said: ‘Do we have to say the magic word?’ Then the doors opened. I have power! Or at least it felt like it for a moment. All the others (the ones that heard me that is) laughed. Timing is everything.

Once again I cannot access Facebook from my phone. It is not an internet problem as you can see, I got to my e-mail just fine. However, as I am falling asleep, I will end this.

>When I put my change in jars, I sort it. One jar for pennies, one for quarters and one for the rest. I recently ran out room for the pennies.

The jar is a Sunfresh “Fruit Made Easy” jar.
It is 6″ tall and 3-¼” in diameter. I don’t know how many ounces it held, that was on the label and as you can tell, I removed the label.
Can you guess how many pennies in the jar? Come on PLEASE?
Oh you want a prize if you guess it, hmmm.

O.K. How about a pair of silver and glass bead earrings? I realize this picture is not great quality, my camera is not designed for this type of photography. The ear wires are silver as are the chains, the beads are glass. They are about 2-¼” long. Not very fancy, just pretty little ear bobs. Hand made by me.

Contest open only to United States residents due to cost of international postage.
To enter: If you are a facebook friend, send me a message with your guess.
Post a comment here with the number of pennies you think are in the jar.
