>Contacts

>I mentioned on Facebook that I had completely forgotten something I wanted to write. Of course as soon as I shut down my computer I remembered. Then I decided it would a better blog post then Facebook update.

The contacts I am referring to above are the kind you put in your eyes. I have done some pretty dumb things with mine. Once I fell asleep with them in all night. I was mad the next day ’cause then I had to wear my glasses all day. The most common thing I do is rub my eyes. This moves the contact around in my eye and wrinkles up the contact and can damage them.

Last night I did something beyond that, I started to take my eye makeup off without first taking out my contacts. I realized what I had done when my eye started burning. I washed my hand but I couldn’t get the contact out. I took the other one out. I couldn’t see the contact in my eye, but I also couldn’t find it on my clothes or on the floor so I was pretty sure it was still in my eye, I did eventually find it folded up in the corner of my eye.

Moral of the story, make sure you take out your contacts first!

Fourth hole is not fun

Yesterday Em and I went to the city. Like I mentioned we went to Marie Tash, cause I decided to get a fourth hole in my ears. So for those of you who are keeping track, there are some of you keeping track right? I now have 9 holes. 4 in each ear and one in my belly. I saw a butterfly that I might get to replace the opal, but I am thinking of getting a different kind of butterfly. If I do, I will let you know. Anyway, Em ordered some jewelry for herself too. Hee, anyway. About a hour after, I was wondering why I ever wanted fourth hole, (truth be told, I am STILL wondering) especially when I put my ear buds in Owie! So I have been taking Aleve so I can sleep. My right ear is fine it is just my left ear that hurts all the way to the top. I think it is because of the deformity in that ear, NO, I am not taking pictures of it! I will take pictures of the other ear with the 4 earrings in it, when the swelling goes down and I get that cute little tripod Gwen and I saw at BestBuy.

Last year Labor Day Weekend was the first trip Em and I made to Manhattan, there was a hurricane that trip and we got soaked. We had nice weather this time. That time we went to Tavern on the Green and I took pictures and posted them here. This trip we went to The Russian Tea Room. That’s two fantasies down, now if I could only get a meeting with Derek!

This time, I took the pictures and made a collage. Since I now know how to do that. The pictures are also on Facebook and in my slideshow in the right sidebar.

>Went down Saturday, it was forecast to rain so Em brought ponchos she had bought for the Loggins & Messina concert, that she ended up not using since it didn’t rain when they went. I wore my hat and my denim jacket, just in case. Em had an appointment to get her nails done. After breakfast at Pershing Square Cafe we walked around a little then went to the nail salon early, she decided she also needed a pedicure. So then my adventure started, I didn’t want to wait there, and I was wanting to get my hair cut. So I walked toward 3rd Ave., I had gone online and got the address for Supercuts. I was going there but somehow I turned on the wrong street (big surprise there), however, I saw a sign for haircuts $20 and decided to go in and see. I told the woman at the counter that I wanted a hair cut, she pantomimed cutting with her fingers, “Cut?”, then pantomimed washing hair, “Massage?” (I must admit at this point the little voice in my head was yelling at me ‘RUN! Run for your life!’) I said “No, just cut.” She nods her head and indicates a chair for me to sit in, proceeds to wet my hair and comb it. As for the voice in my head, I told it to just shut up, it was only hair. After a few more hand gestures, thumb and forefinger apart and then measuring on the hair, she proceeded to trim approximately 1 1/2 inches off the length which was not as much as I wanted trimmed off, but that is better then a too short haircut, I don’t have to let anything grow out. I told Em, “Now I feel confident about getting my hair cut in a foreign country.”

Of course after getting my hair cut (no pictures, the style is the same anyway) and paying extra to get it blow dried, I came out of the salon to heavy rain. Grr! It was supposed to stop! I walked back to the nail place and Em was just leaving. I actually was standing across the street and watched her send me a text message. Then I yelled at her for not stopping the rain. We started walking. She had heard about a restaurant, more of a burger place really, and wanted to put it in her book so we had to try it out. It is on 79th Street, at the end where it runs into the Hudson River.

So we walked all the way up to 79th Street, then all the way to the river, which actually at that point is no longer considered a river to the Boat Basin Cafe. Kind of cute inside. Em said it is open year round, it must get freaking cold in the winter. What I didn’t realize, but should have, is the restaurant is located under the overpass, which is kind of a roundabout really.

This is the overpass that goes over the restaurant, we walked along side of this and then walked down some stairs that curved around, so I should have figured out that the restaurant was under it, but I didn’t, not until I went to the bathroom and on the way back looked up and saw the road signs above.

>My earrings came today

>and this is funny. You remember my previous post, they are wee tiny hoops. The FedEx box was one of the medium size boxes. About six times the size of the box the hoops were in. Both the boys and I thought that was very funny.

I left work early because of a threatening storm. It was just starting to rain which was good for two reasons, one I did not have an umbrella, I mean do I ever, and also because it had just started there were no puddles in the road. I have come to believe that when you are waiting to cross the street and there are puddles in the road the cars speed up so they can splash you more! Oh I forgot the third reason, after it had rained a while the train started having track and signal problems.

Tigger needed to deposit a check so I took him up and then we went to the mall, I wanted to look at more earrings. No, you can never have too many pairs of earrings! I ended up with a pair of gold and ruby hoops. They were on a great sale, and you know I cannot resist. Tigger found a polo shirt he wanted. So we both ended up with something new.

>My new earrings

>This is going to be a very short post as I am at work and totally not supposed to be doing this. If my boss catches me I am Dead Dead Dead.

These are the earrings I ordered. Fancy HUH? LOL. I just wanted plain wee tiny hoops.

More about earrings

I can’t help it, I just ♥ earrings. Saturday was the first time I wore different earrings in my second pierced hole in my ear. I wore my Amethyst hearts in the first hole and my square Amethyst earrings on the French wires for the second. When I was taking the piercing earrings out, one of the backs came apart, they are the backs with a metal center and plastic around it. Anyway, there was some brown stuff too, couldn’t tell what it was though. Anyway, I decided that instead of putting those earrings back in I would put in my little hoops. The problem was, I couldn’t get the little hoops to close.

Sunday I wore my other hoops in the second hole, a plain gold post in the first and the piercing stud in the third. I decided to try to see if Zales had any little hoops for a reasonable price. I found these wee tiny hoops with butterflies on them. Can you see the butterflies? Probably not. I can’t see them and I know they are there! They are just the size I was looking for, and they are very pretty.

Here is better picture of the earrings. I took it from the website. There was another pair of hoops that I actually liked better, but the store only had white gold in stock. I will be ordering them from the website in yellow gold. I had a moment of concern, when I got in my car I took the hoops I was wearing out to put these in and when I took the right earring out, my ear hurt! When I took the left earring out there was gunk on the post. So I am back to vigilantly cleaning my ears with the sea salt. I am planning on putting the other hoops in my third piercing hole, I think it will be easier to keep the ears clean with hoops.

>Saturday

>Yes, Em and I went to the city Saturday. But to understand what happened, I have to take you back to Friday night. Friday I went to get my nails done. Em asked me to find out when her appointment was on Saturday. After I asked, Esther asked if I was coming too, when I said yes, she asked if I was going to get a pedicure, I said, Maybe. The owner came back to the table next to us and Esther told her I was going to get a pedicure when Em came in for her manicure! I was just kind of, well I didn’t really say that, **sigh**. When I told Em, she just kind of laughed and said, “It is so hard to say no to them.”

I wore my new sandals Saturday, it was ok, I have kind of broken them in. When they asked me to pick a color, I tried to pick a color as close to the color of the shoes as possible. I know they don’t look the same, I think it is because the nails are shiny and the sandals aren’t. We left the nail salon and headed down Broadway to Marie Tash so Em could see about the ring she is wanting to get. I also needed to get my piercing checked. We were early so on the way we stopped at the Strand. To get out of the heat and kill some time. Of course I asked about the True Crime section, which I was told is in the Basement. Of course. Well with 18 miles of book shelves, some had to go to the basement didn’t they? So I went downstairs and started looking, couldn’t find them, couldn’t find any signs for them either. Finally I asked someone and he took me way back into this corner and there tucked between ‘Journalism’ and ‘Law Inforcement’, was True Crime. It was actually a decent sized selection. Of course, I never remember the authors of the books I want so I was having to read the titles of all the books, I found Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit by Mark Olshaker (Author) and John E. Douglas for $7.00, hardbound, originally $25.00, so I bought it. About the time that I found it, Em sent me a text saying she was ready to leave.

We continued on to Maria Tash and got there just as they were opening. Em talked to the sales person about what she wanted. She didn’t have anything done then but now knows when to come back for what she wants. I had them check my piercings, which they said look like they are heeling like they should. I asked about the bleeding, they weren’t concerned. I also asked about a 4th hole in my ear. I am not getting that until all the piercings in both ears are completely healed. Even if it takes months.

Em suggested taking the subway to Central Park, yes I know, she is starting to scare me. We had lunch at AQ Kafé, I had Chicken salad, you know a salad with grilled chicken on it. It was fabulous. The place is definitely on our list of places to eat in the city. They also have a bakery there, that we looked at briefly, then quickly ran away. We went in the mall in Columbus Circle. The one with the huge naked couple. I mentioned to Em, that for a woman that size, her boobs are awfully small, and for a man that big his, um, well I’m sure you get the idea, she did! I got a skirt at Esprit (?), then we went to the park.

Then after the park we stopped at Talbots where Em found a dress on sale, then Annie Moore’s, she got chicken for Fred, then home. As soon as we got home, Tigger tried to take my book.

>Now everyone knows that . . .

>Bella is an insecure whiney little thing. LOL! But it sometimes helps to whine a little. See, J. Kaye from J. Kaye’s Book Blog took pity on me and tweeted about my giveaway, and now people have entered! It is actually going to be a contest now! I am so happy. Yes really, now off to find a life.

In other news, Em got a new car, a blue Hyundai Elantra. They got a rebate from Hyundai and cash from the government for D’s old van so everyone is happy.

My mother called, she is home and feeling alright. She doesn’t know yet if she’ll have to have additional treatment. Test results are not in yet.

Lastly, my belly is healing and still looks oh so cute!

Sometimes I am stupid
When I made my nail appointment I didn’t check my work schedule so here I am in a bar (Yes! a bar! Don’t judge me, it’s a nice place attached to a restaurant and in GCT, how much nicer can you get?) waiting until its time to head to the nail salon.

What made me pick up my pen was the thought or question, how do other people see things? Is that a valid question or is it the Negra Modela talking? Here’s how the scene played out if I was were writing a book.

The bartender watched as she moved from one barstool to the other, as she placed her pocketbook on the bar and carefully arranged her ball cap, with her sunglasses and cellphone inside it, her water, beer, basket of chips in a precise semi-circle around her napkin. She picked up her cell phone, smiling at the text message she received and he wondered.

Does anyone else think like that?

>So anyway

>after all that posting about not posting and how I was getting back to it . . .

Wednesday Em and I came to the city. She took the day off, and it was my RDO. She had an appointment to get her nails done, I wanted to look for shorts. Been looking for a new pair for a while. The main problem is I don’t want to pay $30 for shorts.

After Em got her nails done we walked down Broadway, there was a store I wanted to go to. We stopped for lunch at another chocolate place we found. The food was great, Em got a burger and I got a vege-burger which was pretty good. Then we shared dessert, it was a monster sundae, so big we couldn’t eat it all.

We then continued our trek down Broadway to our destination, Maria Tash where I got another piercing. I took a picture but it didn’t turn out, I will have to take another one, except I don’t know if I want my not quite flat abs displayed. That should tell you what I got pierced. Em had to get another pair of shoes, her feet are now horribly blistered.

Thursday I got my nails done, but I will have to post about that later. I took notes though, I will just have to type up what I wrote in my journal.
