>N. Y. C.

>They sang that song in Annie. Then the day after, yesterday, Em, Fred and I went to Manhattan. Got a late start since we both had some things to do before. She had to get the oil changed in her car and I had to take Gwen to the library and get gas for my car and get coffee. Gwen got a snack when I was getting coffee. Coffee is important right? I took my green bag so I could take my book The All-True Travels and Adventures of Lidie Newton by Jane Smiley. I read it on the train down to the city and back home. Since it was a little warmer then past trips, I was looking for a lighter jacket to wear and found my black quilted one with the pretty silver pin.

Em is trying to plan one thing to do each time we go down. She wanted to take Fred to the FDNY museum, I wanted to get my nails done. One of them came off, I didn’t have any glue so I tried sticking it back on with clear nail polish, that didn’t work, and I didn’t get around to getting gel on it until before the nail split and I had 9 long and one short. HATE THAT!

We walked to SoHo(that’s where the museum was). Em figured we could find a salon there and they would go to the museum and I would go get my nails done. Well, that didn’t work out. So after we went through the museum (which was kind of lame compared to the NYPD museum) we started back toward GCT, keeping our eyes open for a nail salon. On the way we stopped at Banana Republic, Em was looking at dresses, I pulled out this orange dress (according to the website it’s Leon Coral) as I did that Em walked from the back of the store and said, “You would look so freakin’ hot in that!” I didn’t try it on, there was a line for the dressing room and we didn’t want to leave Fred alone in the store and she was the one looking for a dress, I just happened to find one. Anyway, I wasn’t going to spend that much for a dress without trying it on so I didn’t get it.

We found a nail place on Madison, Em and Fred kept walking and I went in, the plan was to meet them at Annie Moore’s. We ended up meeting at GCT and I got a pasta dish from one of the little take away places downstairs and eating it on the train. I didn’t get the nails polished, decided to do that at home, then when I got home I couldn’t decide what color!

So I lined up my bottles of polish to try to decide.Should I go dark, it’s not spring yet, but it is going to be spring next week, so what color, the lavender or blue or maybe that grass green polish? Or should I be traditional, rose or red or mauve, this is so difficult!

I eventually decided on the lavender, but it took me until just now!

>Nice day today

>I woke up with a headache, and a voice mail message from someone I was supposed to meet at a friends house 30 minutes earlier, I will have to apologize tomorrow. I also had a stomach ache. Both were related to the fact that I am a girl. Enough said about that.

Last night I went up to JoAnn’s to get fabric. Saw Alex and Doreen there, so I didn’t get to the rest of the places I wanted to go. I did get fabric for my new bag, that I am now going to make myself since Em is working on clothes for Puerto Rico. When I showed her the fabric today, she thought it was very nice and pretty and would make a good bag. She also thanked me for the rings I gave her, she said, “I like these cheap rings.” Then I showed her the choker I got, silver heart with black cords tied to it. Gwen looked at me and said, “You do realize you’re not a teenager anymore?” to Gwen!

We went to the library, I wanted to get out of the house, but I still wanted to go online. So I did stuff online and Gwen looked for DVD’s. She got three, after finding out there was NO LIMIT to the number she could get. This was after she told me there was a limit of 3 books and I told her, that’s funny cause right now I have 6 books out. Then we were going to come home but Em wasn’t home, so we got lunch.

It was a very nice day so we got hamburgers from this restaurant with a chalkboard menu and grass-fed beef from cattle that were treated nice (or something weird like that, Gwen read it on the menu) then went to the park to read. Had a bit of shock when we discovered that some of the picnic tables have been removed. There used to be some at the top of the hill and the back of park near the Junior High School, they were gone, there were only picnic tables in the covered area near the playground. What I thought was weird was the grills were still there, so you could come cook your hamburgers, but couldn’t sit and eat them.

Then Gwen wanted chips to eat while we watched the movies. So we went up to Hannaford’s, I also took the opportunity to go to Sally’s to get nail stuff, which included some blue nail polish (did I mention a nail came off yesterday? I have to repaint my nails now since I wasn’t able to glue it back on. I tried using clear nail polish, didn’t work.) and to take Gwen to the bank.

It was a bad idea, I forgot about the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Am I the only one who finds it odd to have a St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 7th? Gwen was wondering why since St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish holiday we celebrate it here. Sometimes I wonder what she did in school, cause I don’t think she was listening to her teachers.

We finally made it home, after a 40 minute drive that normally takes 20. Em was sleeping, she went to a S** L** party at Pam’s and Tim was pouring, enough said about that too! So we watched one of the DVD’s, and which one did we watch? Stitch insisted on Anne of Green Gables.

It was such a nice day, it was hard to believe we got this on Monday.

This is Lil’ Bit, who has been living in a New York Animal Shelter for 2 years, in a small cage. She needs a loving home, watch these video’s to see how lovable she is: Lil’ Bit, Lil’ Bit in snow.

I read all about her at Sarah’s who read all about it at Daryl’s. I’m not able to do anything directly, but I have a readers and then you have readers. So if we all pull together and blog about Lil’ Bit, maybe we can find her a good home.

Here is what Daryl had to say about her.

“Like many animal lovers, Rosanna volunteers at her local shelter. She has become bonded with one particular dog that has been at the shelter for two years now. Lil’ Bit owns up to her name, she’s a little chunk of love on four legs.

After two years in a shelter in Wantagh, New York, she’s wondering when she will get her chance at a loving home. Lil’ Bit has never met a person she did not like and has so much affection to give.

Lil’ Bit is approximately seven years old and although she has very few teeth, she manages to get her food down just fine. She’s hopeful that her new family will help her shed those extra pounds so she can find her waistline again.

Please help Lil’ Bit find the loving home she deserves by posting her flyer in your community. Please also pass the flyer onto others who can do the same.

If you would like more information on this adorable sweetie, please contact Rosanna directly at: luvyourdog11@optonline.net”

Please freely copy this post, I don’t need any acknowledgement, I just want us all to use the power of our blogs, or email and the internet to find this little dog a loving home.

>We had another great day

>Friday I was feeling so bad I couldn’t even eat the soup Em got for me. I took some Theraflu and went to bed. Saturday when she called to see if I would be able to go, I thought I could handle it. So off we went. Camera in hand, torturing Em every chance I got.

And my first chance was at the train station, I did let her take her glasses off though. Actually this is the only picture of her. There rest are of the park and buildings and a husky with pretty eyes. Its all in the slide show, I updated it just now.

Had breakfast at our favorite spot, then went to Exhale where Em had an appointment for a ‘fusion’ massage, no idea what that is but her text message to me after it was done was “this was the best thing”.

We had lunch at Cafe Frida. I was waiting at the bar for Em and the bartender and I were talking/flirting, we got the same waiter as last time, as I was looking for a place to put my purse, he hung it up here. I hope I didn’t offend any Mayan gods!

The museum we were going to go to wasn’t as interesting as we thought it would be so we didn’t go in. We did see a photography museum, Gwen and I might go there when she and I are looking for something to do when Em, her and I are in the city and Em is getting her facial/massage or whatever she is getting.

Then later when we were walking around Rockefeller Center this guy stopped us something about filming did we see the sign next to the pink elephant and giraffe? No we didn’t. We are pretty sure he was a off-duty NYPD (He kept saying, we’re not going to run you in) He was a volunteer for a soup kitchen raising funds and handing out hats. Em’s is FDNY and mine say NYC in big letters and over that in little letters New York City. Oh and in case you didn’t go to the slide show, here is the dog with the pretty eyes.

So far we have attracted the following NYC males, a gay makeup artist, a short Mexican bartender and a psychotic NYPD officer(we think, about the NYPD part, not the psycho part.

>Rare Red-headed Woodpecker Visits Stony Kill Farm
There’s nothing like a rare bird sighting to attract people to a new bird feeding and viewing area. So, fortune smiled on Stony Kill Farm when its new feeding and viewing area was christened on January 8 by a visit from a red-headed woodpecker. The exciting news of the rare bird’s presence, unmistakable with its totally red head and black and white nearly robin-sized body, soon drew a big crowd.

Rare Bird Alert
In a classic example of nature center and wildlife conservation group cooperation, Stony Kill staff alerted Dutchess County’s Ralph T. Waterman Bird Club, which posted a Rare Bird Alert (RBA) on its website. The next day, club members, visitors of all ages, and DEC staff began flocking to Stony Kill for a look. Within a few days, club photographers had added many photos of the bird, both feeding and in flight, on its website.

As of January 30, the lone male was still visiting Stony Kill’s suet feeder at the Manor House, and the corn crib at the farmstead. If you want to come and see for yourself, please look from indoors at the Manor House to prevent disturbing the bird.

Species of Special Concern
Not to be confused with its near relative, the red-bellied woodpecker whose populations are increasing across New York, the red-headed is in sharp decline and listed as “A Species of Special Concern.” The bird is in trouble despite being at home in old woodland burned areas and recent clearings, as well as wooded parkland and farms where it exploits a diverse variety of food resources. Likely causes are loss of habitat from land development and nest hole competition with European starlings.

Red-headed woodpeckers feed on insects on bark and foliage, and sometimes even snag flying insects, flycatcher-like, in mid-air. Plant foods include acorns, beechnuts, corn, berries and seeds, which are cached in natural cavities. Starlings and jays often raid cache sites. Compare nest site maps from 1980-85 to those from 2000-05 in the newly published Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in New York State by viewing the atlas’s database comparison map on DEC’s website.

>My niece is having a baby

>I think I already mentioned that. Anyway, here is the card I sent her, I got it at Borders. The inside is blank, I don’t remember exactly what I said. I also included a gift card from Target. Well, I said I wasn’t going to send her any money, I didn’t say anything about anything else.

On another note, another person signed my guest book! That makes me so happy! I now have 13 slides in my book, which means I really have 12 guests since one is of me. Well, OK, 11, one person signed twice.
