>Facebook is the DEVIL!!!

>O.K. Not really. But whenever I come on my computer with every intention of blogging and getting everyone caught up on my life or writing a review(that I promised someone, that I am now behind on), I go to check my Facebook account. Then 3 hours later, I am too tired to do anything else. It is not really Facebook’s fault, I need more hours in the day. It’s the sun’s fault!

I promised you a post on Pershing Square, however before I do that I have to tell you about the hair. It started with the hair, blond hair on the sidewalk in front of our house(probably, I mean I certainly hope so, a wig), then it was on the street in front of our house. Now it is in the street but down at the corner, it is starting to look really sad. For those of you who are thinking, “Why all this fuss?” or “Why doesn’t she just go pick it up and toss it in the trash?”, I will tell you a little secret. Hair creeps me out. Yes really, when I take my blankets out of the dryer and my hair is all tied up in little clumps and falls out, it looks like a bug or spider and I jump, then I realize it is just my hair that came out and was in my blankets and I get all creeped out.

So why is Pershing Square the best place to have breakfast? Is it because they seat you really fast? no, but they do. Is it because the food comes out really fast? no, but it does. Is it because my order(so far) is always right? no, but it has been. Is it because the food is really good and cooked exactly to order? no, but it is(except today, they didn’t burn my bacon which I asked them too but the chef probably thought that was illegal). Is it because the busboys run around clearing tables super fast and never break a dish? no, but I have never heard a dish break and they are super fast. Is it because I’ve seen the wait staff running with food and never drop even a piece of potato? no, but I have. Is it because the food is super cheap? No, hey its in Manhattan across from GCT, its not cheap. Pershing Square is the best place to have breakfast in NYC because of all those things. It is worth the price.

Sometimes I am stupid
When I made my nail appointment I didn’t check my work schedule so here I am in a bar (Yes! a bar! Don’t judge me, it’s a nice place attached to a restaurant and in GCT, how much nicer can you get?) waiting until its time to head to the nail salon.

What made me pick up my pen was the thought or question, how do other people see things? Is that a valid question or is it the Negra Modela talking? Here’s how the scene played out if I was were writing a book.

The bartender watched as she moved from one barstool to the other, as she placed her pocketbook on the bar and carefully arranged her ball cap, with her sunglasses and cellphone inside it, her water, beer, basket of chips in a precise semi-circle around her napkin. She picked up her cell phone, smiling at the text message she received and he wondered.

Does anyone else think like that?

>Yikes!

>I totally forgot to blog yesterday. I will not meet my quota for this month at this rate. I also realize I never finished our trip to New York. Well Sunday was much the same as Saturday, except we were all three in the city in the morning, since we stayed overnight. Had breakfast at Lindy’s, overpriced, not worth it. Gwen went to class, we checked out, then checked our bags in to be held until we were ready to go home and wandered. I bought a hat because I forgot mine and the sun was making me ill.

As I was standing in line to pay for it I was looking around the store (we were down on Broadway, near the sea port) and turned to Gwen to mouth at her, ‘I think this is a druggie store.’ She just nodded back at me.

When we were at Annie Moore’s to have dinner I went in the Ladies Room to once again see if I could figure out why my eye felt like something was in it. As I was looking my contact started to, um, slip out of my eye. So I took it to put it back in, it was inside out, so I tried to turn it right side out and it tore. Right in two. Well, my eye felt better, but I couldn’t see so good. My contacts are prescribed to correct fully with my left eye (the one that tore) for distance, under correct with the right eye, for reading. So while things weren’t as bad as they would have been with no contacts, things were still blurry.

And the last thing from the city, we got sweets at Zaro’s. Gwen could only eat half of her cake, she was going to save it for later, then she decided not to and took the plastic container it was in over to the trash and tossed it. After she came back this man comes running up to the trash can, runs into it and almost knocks it over, then pulls the cake out. After he left, she turns to me with a grin and says, “Guess I just fed a homeless man.” LOL! I guess she did.

>Finally

>Our Trip to NYC June 6-7, 2009.

Yes I am finally getting around to it. If you scroll down you can see a collage of all the pictures we took. If you scroll farther down you can see a slide show of all the pictures. I have decided to do most of the posting with the pictures I took. In between the pictures I will post the notes I made at the time.

We caught the 6:50, originally Em told me the 5:50, so Gwen and I were up an hour early. At the train station we met some friends, they were going for a special program at the Met (I think). Anyway we all sat in the same car so I took these pics.

I don’t know everyone in these pictures, some are friends, some are friends of friends. But they were all willing to smile for the camera.

We stayed on the Hotel Pennsylvania (note to self, don’t stay here again, not bad-not good either), it is across from Penn Station and Madison Square Gardens. I never found out why there were two fire engines and an ambulance in front of Penn Station with their emergency lights flashing.

Next to Madison Square Garden is a Borders. I went in there, I was trying to find something to do while waiting for Em. From the coffee shop I got this great view. Now as for the other picture, I don’t noramlly take pictures in the toilet but I just couldn’t resist, the sticker says: Hygienic Liner for Fitting Purposes. I was not aware Borders sold anything that needed a Hygienic Liner. I stayed in the coffee shop while Em and I sent text messages to each other to see when we needed to meet up. She wanted me to find out where there was a street fair. As if I would know. My handy dandy Glyde came to my rescue, I googled and I found this website: Schedule New York City Street Fairs and Festivals, on that site I found, ‘Stuyvesant Park Neighborhood 2nd Ave. Fair (on 2nd Ave from 14th to 23rd Streets. I sent Em the info and started toward it. I walked down Madison, Madison and 23rd Street is where Madison Square Park is and that is where the Shake Shack is so I got a shake on my way to the street fair. When I got there, the fair was just setting up, so I was able to wander around and look at things without a lot of people around which I liked. I also liked walking down the middle of the street.

Em bought a few things, I bought a purple New York City tee-shirt and a pearl necklace. We had lunch, I don’t remember where and headed back to the nail salon so Em could get her nails done. Then back to the hotel to get Gwen and go to dinner and the cruise. We were going to have dinner at Cafe Frida, but it was too far for Gwen to walk, her feet were starting to hurt her. So we stopped for dinner, then stopped to get something for her shoes, they worked and she was able to walk.

Intrepid Museum Ship, our ship, Em and Gwen, Barbie’s Limo. Well, who else would have a bright pink limo?

Gwen and I both took pictures on the cruise. She was using my camera because the battery on Em’s was almost dead. This trip I had decided to take pictures of everything I haven’t before, since I’d never been on a Circle Line cruise before, everything we saw was new. We went up the East River and then back to the Statue of Liberty so we saw her at sunset. We saw the Chinese Consulate, Javitz Building, Empire State Building, Greenich Village and I think we went where the plane landed in the Hudson. Click on the slide show and you can look at them all. On the way back to the hotel after the cruise, we stopped at Pinkberry for frozen yogurt. Sunday’s fun will be in the next post.

>Little things

>I got up late today, didn’t oversleep, just got up at my usual late time instead of when my alarm went off. So I was rushing around and right now my left eye feels like there’s something in it. Anyway, I grabbed my sweat jacket off my bed instead of going to my closet to get my L.L. Bean jacket. Today the glass in Em’s van is being replaced, (I posted about this earlier here) so Stitch dropped me off so she could use my car today.

Yesterday I forgot I didn’t have any oatmeal so I just ate my fruit. Last night we stopped at Stop ‘N’ Shop and got oatmeal, and I brought it in with me today. I stopped at Starbucks to get a tea and I got a yogurt parfait, for breakfast. When I had breakfast in my bag. *SIGH* I don’t know why I do these things. When I got off the subway it was raining. Not a heavy rain, just enough to wish I had my nice L.L. Bean jacket (which would have been perfect for the weather) instead of my sweat jacket with its itty bitty tiny hood. I can’t think of what else I had to say.

>Missed Midnight

>Kind of knew I would, but wanted to get ready for bed. This way, when I finish I can just put my laptop away and go to sleep.

Wednesday it was actually colder then Tuesday, and this is not right. We are going into summer, the days should be getting warmer. Other then that and the big black SUV tailgating me on the way to church, today was uneventful. Well one little thing, I went out to get lunch and this man was walking his toy Doxie, who proceeded to jump on me, not mean, very friendly. So I scratched the dog’s head. I got a meatball sub, don’t know why, I was going for soup. When I got back and sat down, I said to myself, why did I get a meatball sub, (with marinara sauce) when I am wearing light aqua pants? Sure enough, I dropped a meatball on myself and got sauce on one of my pant legs. When I went to try to get it out, I notice dirt on my other leg, from the Doxie jumping on me. *Sigh* Tomorrow night I will be doing laundry I think.

That’s it, going to bed now.

>Sunday, that’s my fun day

>Hornis called to arrange to meet this A.M. for service. I thought he said 11:00 a.m. and I was purposely late since it was at Debbie’s and I hate walking around in my bare feet. She doesn’t like people to wear shoes in her house, but she doesn’t provide them with something else to wear so I don’t like going to her house. First weird thing was Debbie was leaving when I got there, she just waved at me. I went up to the door and peeked through, no one was there. I thought this is odd, maybe everyone has already left, but why would Deb have just left if that was the case? So I went back to my car and was fooling around with my sun shade and Syd and Nancy pulled up. Then Jack and Jill, then Hornis and Mrs. Hornis. Turns out we were meeting at 11:30 a.m. Well, so to not take off my shoes, I just stood by the counter, didn’t go on the rug to sit down. We had a nice morning, but it was awfully hot by the end of it. So hot I didn’t even stop at Ron’s. Just went straight home to sit in the air conditioning. I had a headache, which got better in the cool air.

Went to church, it started to thunder, as I watched, Sue looked at Joe, he gave her some keys and she handed them to her husband who then left. Evidently, the windows were down on Joe’s car and Bill went out to put them up. Then at the very end when the elder was giving his closing comments and we were getting ready to sing our final song before the closing prayer, there was a big crash of thunder and the lights went out. So we skipped the song and just had prayer. Then when we looked out the door it was pouring down rain and wind blowing, a real storm.

By the time I got home it had stopped and D was grilling hamburgers.

Not much else to say, tomorrow is a holiday so I might be here, might not depends on what we have planned.

>We went to Manhattan yesterday

>And Em has written about it in her new blog, that I helped her set up, but am not allowed to read. That’s O.K. she doesn’t read my blog, fair is fair. Anyway, the name of her blog is Marcie’s Manhattan. So check it out, she is new to blogging, but not to writing.

I had an appointment to get my nails done, no picture, but I didn’t get them polished just new gel put on the old stuff was starting to come off. My fingertips are a little sore now, they always are after that much stuff is done to them. Em and Fred (Tigger was supposed to come but he was sick) went to lunch and I was going to join them after.

When done with my manicure I went to Starbucks for tea and I learned that I shouldn’t carry a paper cup of hot tea while checking my e-mail (ouchie!) Then I texted Em and she said to meet her at Madison Square Park(MSP). In case you don’t know, MSP is next to the Flat Iron Building and in MSP is the ‘Shake Shack‘ where Em was in line to get Fred a malted and agreed to get me a hamburger. Em had taken my camera because the Ethiopian restaurant they were going to was recommended to them by one of Fred’s teachers so she wanted to take a picture of him there and that morning she couldn’t find her camera.

Fred was off taking pictures. When I downloaded the pictures to my computer, they were mostly of squirrels. You can see that on the slideshow, if you have time to sit through it. I abbreviated the name for MSP on the pictures and started laughing, what I used could also stand for Mad Squirrel Park. With their eyes shining, they look kind of mad.

We next headed for Alphabet City so Em could get a baby gift for one of the teacher’s wife. After we headed toward Marie Belle for Lava Cake, stopping along the way at an Art Store, then Starbucks so I could use the bathroom but the line was not moving. We left and went to Marie Belle, where the bathroom had been vandalized and we couldn’t use it. We still had the Lava Cake, it is so good, Em says one person can’t eat a whole one. I think I could. Really, I do. We found a Subway where they let us use the employee bathroom, barely enough room to turn around. Em wanted a cab, she had a blister on her feet. I never complain if she wants to get a cab. Besides her blister it was getting kind of late, something I don’t realize when it stays light so long. Dinner at Annie Moore’s and then home.

Next week, Em wants to get the gel manicure, like I get. I’ll let you know what happens.

>Home today

>And thinking about the gym, even put my clothes on, well if I’m going to do it, I will after this post.

Yesterday was supposed to be my first ‘pass day’ with the new work schedule, but I had a meeting to go to in Manhattan, so today is my ‘pass day’. The meeting was O.K., Tom was there and I had hoped to go to lunch with him, but my boss kept insisting on going to the going away lunch DOW was having for the intern. One of the reasons I didn’t want to go was the last time I was there it was AWFUL. It hadn’t changed, in fact I wrote a list up when I got back to the office.

The list reads:

  • Soda was flat, (we got two pitchers of diet soda, I got water)
  • bread was not fresh,
  • Fly on someones salad plate,
  • Chicken was tough,
  • Some dishes were too salty,
  • marinara sauce tasted like it came from a jar,
  • When the water pitcher was refilled, no ice.

Than last night I took Fred to the spring concert, Em had to take Gwen someplace, I forget where, afterward according to tradition we went for ice cream, I said Ron’s, he said Cold Stone®, I said, “Well if Ron’s isn’t open we’ll go to Cold Stone®.”,

“Bella, you know Ron’s is going to be open because they know the concert is tonight.”

Ron’s is the local ice cream shop, they normally close at 9 during the school week, but they stay open later when they know the school kids have an event.

“I take it you want to go to Cold Stone® instead of Ron’s.”

“Yes.”

“I don’t know how late Cold Stone® is open, they might close at 9.”

Fred texted Em to see if she knew, no answer, I told Fred if Cold Stone® was closed we weren’t going to come back to Ron’s. I don’t really blame him, although Ron’s has the best soft serve in Dutchess County, possible the whole Hudson Valley, the ice cream at Cold Stone® is better. I wanted to go to Ron’s because it is on the way home and cheaper then Cold Stone®, however, Fred needed to come down from the concert high or ‘de-stress’ as he calls it.

We got there and they were open, Fred had marshmallow with Reeses Peanut Butter Cups® and I had mint with raspberries. Then we came home.

>Long day, very long day.

>Started at 5:00 a.m. when I got up to get ready to go to the zoo for the walk to save the gorillas. It was 5 kilometers which is 3.107 miles. It took me about an hour to walk it. I thought that was pathetic, but Em said it was a healthy pace.

Last night when I took my bath and washed my hair, I braided it in two braids. I left them in while I was walking, then took them out when I changed clothes. So my hair had that wavy, curly look that most people like to see my hair in. Took us a while to find the subway but we did and headed for Tribeca. We were on a local, I counted the stops, when I got to 16 stops I stopped counting. We go off at 79th Street so we could go to Cafe Frida for lunch. We went across the street where they were having a street fair but didn’t see anything we wanted. Em had a headache so she hailed a cab and we went to Tribeca for the film festival, but we couldn’t find anything going on. We did find a Marie Belle on Broome Street, New York, NY and had the most luscious iced chocolate drink(it was spicy) and dessert.

I bought a bracelet for Gwen that is made up of charms with pictures of NYC in them. She liked it.

There was more that we did, but right now I am so tired, and I took a Tylenol® PM, so I really want to go to bed. See you later.
