As the excitement of getting an apartment starts to wan and I look at my stuff that I’m going to be moving I realize something.
Those jokes about Manhattan apartments being the size of postage stamps are not jokes.

Today I met the real estate agent, I filled out forms, I looked at 4 apartments. Two I liked, one was o.k. and the 4th was a definite “NO”.
One of the ones I liked already had an application on it, the other one, I filled out an application, paid my fee for the credit check and put a deposit down. My credit is actually pretty good, big surprise there.
Now I am waiting to see if I got accepted.
Still terrified, and now coming up with new things to worry about, like: it’s a 4th floor walk-up, how will I get a bed up there? How will I get my blue desk (the one that has my computer stuff on it) into the apartment? There are other things that terrify me about moving. I’m saving them for my next post.
Last night I subscribed to a service to get an apartment. This is a huge move for me, I have been living with someone for over 20 years. So not only am I moving to a new city, I am going to be living alone.
Today I got an e-mail, actually I got two, I kind of did the wrong thing, but anyway I have appointment tomorrow and I might actually look at some apartments.
So right now I am excited, nervous and positively terrified.
Last Friday Gwen and I went bike riding in Central Park. It would be more accurate to say we started in Central Park, since we did ride through the city a little bit, mainly to get refreshments. We started off at Tavern on the Green, even though it’s permanently closed the building is still there, and headed down the bike paths. All the road going through Central Park are one way and along the road to Belvedere Castle there is a cat that watches you.

Knowing where the Castle is located is important, the bathrooms are to the left of the Castle. When we got to the north end of the park we went out of the Park to find a place called Screme, we had a Groupon for two free drinks. On the way there Gwen’s seat slipped, we went through a traffic circle, I almost got taken out by a cab and we had to go around two double parked cars. I resisted the urge to yell at the stupid double parked people. At Screme, I got a coffee gelato drink and Gwen got passion-fruit. They were good, but very thick and the straws were very skinny.
Unfortunately the place didn’t have a bathroom and I needed one. Since we also needed lunch we went across the street, there was a Peruvian Restaurant, too much seafood, a sushi bar, same problem, and then an Italian Restaurant. So we went in the Italian Restaurant. I don’t know what it is about restaurants in the city, but some seem to want to cram as many table in as physically possible so there is almost no room for customers.
I got a Panini and Gwen got lasagna. Then we went back to the park, when we got back to Tavern on the Green, Gwen wanted to turn the bikes in, even though it was only 3:00. After that we just kind of walked around. Got ice cream at a truck, I bought a couple half-price books at the Strand. Then we came home. That was pretty much our day. These are glass pendants, they are very popular at the street fairs. You can usually find a table in every block. They are also really cheap, most are $3 with $1 for the cord to hang them on. They are sold separately so you can match whatever color in the pendant you want with a cord. I have 3 that I got from street fairs and one that I got from a street vendor.

These are two of my necklaces. For some reason I keep getting heart shaped ones.
Normally Saturday is my day to play in Manhattan. However last weekend I had planned to come down Sunday with Gwen since Em and D were going to the game on Saturday. The plan was to go with Gwen to church on Saturday, then go down Sunday to walk around, take in a street fair, just kind of hang out. However, Em sent me a text during the week asking if I wanted to go to the game Sunday, since I had already planned to be in the city with Gwen. So our plans changed. We went down early to go to a street fair and then took the subway up to the stadium for the game.
First we got watermelon, then we stopped to get glass necklaces. For the first time ever I had the roasted corn. So good, roasted with a little butter and salt, I will definitely be getting it again. Then Gwen got a banana strawberry crepe and I got a hot Italian sausage. I may never get another hot Italian sausage at the stadium again. It was so much better.
Then we headed up to the Stadium, forgot the 7 wasn’t running so instead of taking the D we took the 4 and met family from Ohio (Yankee fans) headed to game. Since I already wrote about the game, and since I am behind in my posting, I’m going to post my pictures from Manhattan in a couple of separate posts.
So once again I have become negligent in my blogging and am having to play catch up. It won’t be easy this weekend since I am going to see Green Lantern with Gwen on Friday, going to NYC on Saturday with Em and then going to see the Staten Island Yankees on Monday. Plus the Yankees have no off days coming up.
Tonight I had to type posts on about 4 games that I was behind. Now that I’m caught up there,
My phone is here, I spent all last evening getting my apps loaded and my books downloaded and my music synced. Then I forgot it at home when I went to work. Not only that, I twisted my ankle running to catch the train. I didn’t really hurt my ankle, just scraped the side of it with the strap on my shoe.
Yesterday morning my right eye was completely blood shot. It is still a little bit red but I can’t wear my contacts. Tomorrow I am wearing mascara and eyeliner. Mainly because I don’t think make-up is the cause of this.
Not much else to say. I think I will look a the pictures on my camera to make up for the missing posts.
