>MLK day

>No work, so of course I didn’t get up until noon. I also didn’t get on my computer much, its pretty cold in my bedroom, I mean in the whole basement. So I spent most of the day upstairs. That is, when I was running around in my car just cause I could!

Nothing much else to say. I was going to do some laundry but the washer is in use now. So I think I will see what is happening in my blog. Can’t go upstairs right now, the family is doing their Bible study. I took up my computer and showed them the website that is linked to in the last post. They were not impressed. Well, have to go now, will check in later.

>Check this out!

>Fun and addicting, thanks to Sarah, Brit’ Gal.

>Curses!

>When I got up this morning, it was to discover I now only have 9 long nails. One came off during the night and I can’t find it to glue back on. Well, only thing to do is smooth it down and dab some dark polish on until I get my nails done again.

When I showed Em, she grinned and said, “Well, my lashes came off and I can’t get them on this morning.”

So we went to the meeting, I was late as usual. Em took Tigger to get his hair cut and then to get groceries, the rest of them were playing Monopoly. while all this was going on I discovered that the freezer was not working. So I was upstairs when they got home and was standing in the kitchen in my new crocs. I pointed them out to Tigger, he came over and asked, “Are they fuzzy inside?” So I took one off and handed it to him. He put his hand in it and looked around at the others and said, “It’s fuzzy inside!” I told him yes and my feet are finally warm!

After they got the food rearranged and some put in the upstairs freezer and some out in the shed (so no animals will eat it). Em cooked up the beef and made tacos. Then we cleaned up and Gwen and I played Rummicub. I think that is all for tonight. No work tomorrow so I may be back a few times!

>fun day but too cold

>we went to the city, we should probably get our heads examined. When I got up this am it was -1ºF. Should have gone back to bed when I saw that, but I didn’t, I got up and went to the city. Em had her appointment for a facial, but what was my reason? Well, I guess I didn’t have any but I wanted to go with her. So I got up, put on a pair of long underwear, that I bought last night, and the rest of my clothes and came. It was a chance to wear the leather mittens I bought.

We had breakfast at our breakfast place then walked to Lancôme, walked! Further evidence of our mental stability, or should I say lack of? While Em was getting her facial I found a place on 72nd to get my nails done. Long and dark purple how do they look? I like them. Then I sent a text to Em and went to the Crocs™ store while waiting for an answer. I decided to go back to Lancôme I thought she might still be there since she was going to send me a text when she was done. As it was she was walking toward me, she hadn’t turned her phone on and when she tried, it was dead. Em got false eyelashes, she looks amazing with them and he told her how to do them herself, but I got the impression she is not sure she can do them herself, she will though.

So after sending a text to Tigger telling him mom’s phone wasn’t working, we went to Crocs™. Em got a pair of Black lined Crocs™ and I got a pair of purple. Then Em had her bra fitting but we wanted to get lunch first, we found this Mayan Restaurant called Cafe Frida on Columbus, it was excellent, Em got Flautas and I got chicken Enchiladas with Mole sauce. Mine came with a side of rice and beans, Em got to them before me, she every bite of hers and I at almost every bite of mine and half the rice and beans. The food was amazing and made fresh and quick! I wrote down the name so we can go back.

We then went to the bra store so Em could get fitted, I am not saying the name or where, when Em came out she said “Waste of time” she then detailed her reasons which I will not repeat here. Just say she was disappointed. We went to the mall at Columbus Circle, the cold was really starting to get to me. We saw a temperature sign on the Citibank (?) that said 14ºF, so what happened to the 20ºF forecast? I don’t think it made it to 20ºF, it certainly didn’t feel like it to me, and see my water bottle? That’s ice inside there and I didn’t get it from the freezer, I got it from a street vendor and it froze as I was walking and holding it.

Aside from the stops at Starbucks to warm up, I got a migraine from the cold, I also got chapped skin on my legs (That hurts) and to tell you we ended up with French Onion Soup and Glenfiddich at Annie Moores. There’s nothing left to say.

>Still cold

>In fact, I think it is colder today. I got a migraine from the cold, I think it is one of my triggers. Now my head is pounding and as much as I want to tell you about my day, my head just won’t let me. So I will sign off and get back to you tomorrow.

Em and I are going to Manhattan, I am sure I already mentioned this. She is getting a facial, I am getting my nails done.

Enough said, I am not even reading anything online, just trying to get some sleep.

>Very cold day

>It was a two pant day today. One pair of jeans, then my yoga pants over them. I was hoping for a snow day but that was not to be, there was snow, but not enough to justify not going into work. Maybe the cold was but I just bundled up and went in. I am glad I bought that gray jacket in Manhattan a while back. The hood kept my head nice and warm. I also had a fleece jacket on under it and had that hood over my head too! It was so cold in my bedroom tonight I actually dragged out my space heater and turned it on. So now I believe I will be able to sleep tonight. I turned it off a little while ago, but I think I will turn it on while I go wash my face and brush my teeth to warm the room up a bit before I sleep.

Em asked me to get her some more of the Chili Pepper infused Olive Oil, so I went to the store, but they had none. They didn’t even have a space for it on the shelf. So today I went to another store, down 47th Street next to the new Duane Reade. They didn’t have the Chili Pepper infused Olive Oil, but they did have a Garlic and Chili Pepper infused Olive Oil. I sent a text to Em, but she didn’t get back to me until I was back in my office. I will have to get it another day. Maybe tomorrow if I get a chance.

In other news, a plane fell into the Hudson River, it may have sucked some birds into its engines, there is an article about it in the NY Times. Some minor injuries but over all not too bad. Everyone survived.

Well, I need to wash my face and go to bed. Tomorrow is Friday, S said we would go to lunch. I am not holding my breath.

>- QUOTATION OF THE DAY –

>”My parents told me to keep coming to school even if I am killed. The people who did this to me don’t want women to be educated. They want us to be stupid things.”
– SHAMSIA HUSSEINI, 17, who has returned to school in Afghanistan despite being injured in an acid attack. From the New York Times.

I wanted to clarify my last post about the four day work week. I would love to only work four days a week, even if they were longer days. What I don’t like is the hours proposed and the days. Since I have a two hour commute, that means I wouldn’t get home until 8:00 pm, leaving time for me to do nothing in the evening. Also I would have to use leave time on Wednesday to get home in time for my class.

However, I feel this would not be very soon in the making, considered the compressed work week program, after a successful trial run, has yet to make it to the rest of the state.

The comment left expressed the thought that studies show 4 day work weeks do not cause a reduction in energy use and I am sure that is true in general, however, if all the State Offices are closed an extra day, that would save the state the cost of operation for that one day. However, there are some departments that have offices in non-state owned building, like the one I’m in, and the one in White Plains that I used to work at, I don’t know how reducing to a 4 day work week would affect us.

On an unrelated topic, I had to get a new counter for my blog, the other one just stopped showing up. Weird. Anyway, this one doesn’t count visits from my IP address so the count will be more accurate. It is also more depressing.

>This would totally suck

4-Day Workweek Proposed to Ease the State’s Deficit By A. E. VELEZ

A Queens assemblyman has proposed a four-day workweek for some state employees to help offset the $15 billion budget deficit faced by New York in 2009.

The assemblyman, Michael N. Gianaris, said on Sunday that even though his plan called for no pay cuts and would exclude education, transportation, public safety and hospital workers, it would save the state some $30 million a year in building maintenance and transportation costs.

Under the plan, all state agencies providing what Mr. Gianaris called nonessential services would change their working hours to 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday instead of from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week. New York has about 237,000 full-time state employees, according to census figures.

Mr. Gianaris said electricity and fuel bills would be lower because agency offices would be dark and vehicles would not be driven on the fifth day.

Mr. Gianaris said the savings could prevent some of the severe service cuts anticipated by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority ( http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/m/metropolitan_transportation_authority/index.html?inline=nyt-org ) as well as increases in express bus fares and fees for driver’s licenses.

Mr. Gianaris pointed out that Utah installed a mandatory four-day workweek for its state workers last summer. Utah, which has a state work force that is about 18 percent the size of New York’s, is expected to save $3 million annually.

>Two things

>Not about the weather and not about my commute.

Neither one is nice though.

We have a sink here at work, it’s a small kitchen sink, everyone puts crap down it. I can’t be more specific because I don’t know exactly what people are putting down the sink. There are coffee grounds in the sink sometimes and today I could see and smell grease in the sink. Yuk! So now the sink is draining slow, very slow, I have been pouring hot (boiling) water down the sink, today I added a little dish detergent with the water to see if that will help the problem. It has helped a little, I think, but I hate all that water going to waste, but people will not be more careful, they about FOG, but don’t care.

The other thing is that Em sent me an e-mail this morning that Tigger has lost his phone (and some other unspecified) privileges. So I will not be getting my afternoon pick me up from Tigger, now that I think about it, I haven’t been getting it unless I send him a text. It seems he has gotten a little too friendly with one of his friends at work. Em said she didn’t yell at him, but she wanted to ‘slap him silly’. I didn’t point out that he was already there.

So now I have to get ready to leave, allergy shot today. Since I didn’t get to the gym yesterday I have to go tonight.

P.S. I typed this in an e-mail from work, but it didn’t post so when I got home I copied and pasted it. That is why the time posted doesn’t match the post.

>Work Survival Shelf

>

I am set at work. I have all I need to get me through the day, a box of Splenda, a jar of loose tea and a canister filled with P.G. Tipps tea bags. What more could I ask for? A place to take a nap where my boss won’t find me comes to mind.
