>Postcard Friendship Friday #9

>The last of the northwest postcards. Correction, the last of the postcards that I purchased while visiting. There are some I have (somewhere) that my mom sent me. I will dig those out later, I hope I don’t run out of postcards, this is fun. Maybe I will start taking pictures of the post offices in New York City. That’s a thought.

>My brother was here for a visit on Saturday. He lives in Washington State along with his family, his children and their families, my sister and her family and my parents. No they don’t all live in the same house, sheesh! They all live in the same general area. His company has him doing training all over the world and last week he was in Staten Island and next week he’ll be in Maine. So instead of going home and flying back, he came to visit me. He got quite a treat, Em was in the city so they were having fish for dinner. My sister-in-law doesn’t like fish so he almost never has it.

It was a beautiful day and he just wanted to drive around, so that’s what we did. Gwen and Tigger were with us for part of the day, then when we made a stop at home Gwen decided she wanted to stay there. We went to Stony Kill to walk around on the trails. I hope I didn’t pick up any ticks. I took a shower when I got home and threw my clothes in the dryer. My brother has a nice camera and wanted to take a bunch of pictures. I forgot mine and so have nothing to show you. Oh wait, I took some with my new phone. These geese were at the park in Poughkeepsie, they wanted us to feed them, we didn’t and so they left kind of mad, since they had posed for us. Ha HA, stupid geese.

We saw this tree at Stony Kill, don’t know what type of tree it is but I thought it was pretty.

>Continuing our tour of the great Pacific Northwest, Washington State has a large ferry fleet. Mainly to go from the mainland to the San Juan Islands, which are only accessible by water or air. If you are being flown out of the island it is usually a medical emergency (don’t ask me how I know that).

On the back of the postcard.

FORT CASEY STATE PARK
Coupeville, Washington
Fort Casey was established in the late 1890’s to protect Admiralty Inlet and Puget Sound. It is now a state park. Also located nearby are Keystone ferry landing and in the background, the Camp Casey Conference Center, operated by Seattle Pacific University.

>I took these pictures

>

Last time Em and I were in the city. Spring flowers! And it was a pretty nice day too, not like recent weather. Actually these were taken in our yard. I told Stitch you know it is spring when the Crocuses stick their little purple heads up (I know they look kind of blue, but they are really purple). They are all flattened on the ground now because of all the rain, and have been overpowered by the daffodils.

I have no idea the name of these pinkish purple flowers, but they were blooming in Central Park so I snapped their picture. We were walking down a road through the park, I don’t remember where we were going at the time, we were either coming from or going to the Cold Water Creek store. I got a nice dress there on a really good sale. I kept stopping to take pictures so Em got way ahead of me. Of course she stopped and waited for me.

We stopped at Maxie’s Grill for lunch, Em said she thinks in the future we will just go there for drinks and dessert. We were hoping to see some of the game, instead they had on girl’s softball.

And these,

are Forsythia, not Forsynthia like some people say, there is no ‘n’, they are also a flower (or bush) that when I see it think of spring.

I don’t know what this last flower is but I know you see a lot of them during springtime,

>This is another of the postcards I bought while visiting my parents in Washington State. I like how this has a frame effect in it.

The back of it simply says:

Mt. Olympus

The card I posted last week, I forgot to take a close look at the back, on its back is printed:

>Daughtry rocks

>And so do Cavo and Lifehouse. The concert was in Newark, NJ. Before we go on, I have to get this out of my system. Newark sucks. But then, IMHO, most of NJ sucks. We got all turned around getting to the concert so we were late, had no time to get something to eat. Em dropped us off so we could walk to the Prudential Center while she found someplace to park. Turned out she got there before us. I have to say, for as bad I think the city of Newark is, the people are really, really nice. They don’t know how to search you, but they were nice.

This is the ticket, if you click on it to enlarge it you will see these were not great seats, we were in Mezzanine seating, which is a fancy way of saying ‘up so high you can’t see sh*t’, in fact you don’t have to click on it I will tell you, we were in the top row at the facility, and, my seat was broken. It was O.K. as long as I sat very still.

Sometime during the concert, I think it was while Lifehouse was playing, a man came around asking us if we wanted to move down, they had tickets that weren’t sold so they were giving them away. This is the ticket for our new seats, Suite Level, one level up from the floor, nice seats. We had a great view for the rest of the concert.

As mentioned before, we got home late, the drive was better then when we were going to, I switched the GPS to fastest and it took us on the interstate, we only made one wrong turn and it didn’t take us long to fix it. Em says, she still doesn’t want to go back to Newark for any more concerts.

>Back to PFF and I missed Marie, so I am hoping to keep this more regular from now on.

There is a little story to this one, kind of personal if no one minds. My father is an alcoholic, has been since before I was born, he stopped drinking a few years back. I went to visit about a year after he quit drinking. My first time ever seeing him, not under the influence. So we went to the grocery store to get dinner because my mother was ‘not feeling well so lets pick something up so she doesn’t have to cook.’ HUH? OK Dad. My dad was looking at this postcard and said, ‘This guy has his priorities wrong.’ And all I could think was, well Dad, you should know about messed up priorities. I mean he never did anything like this, but for most of his life, he had his priorities messed up. Of course I had to buy it, because it reminds me that 70 years old my Dad made a major change for the better.

>Damage from the snow storm

>Everyone has heard about the big snow storm. 2 to 3 feet of snow, trees down leading to power out and so on and so forth. After the snow stopped and things got somewhat back to normal, I walked around and took some pictures of the damage. I have to warn you some of these images may be disturbing to some people (tree huggers).

This is the big tree across the street from our house,

and these are the branches that fell from it. They are still there, since this is a private development we have to rely on our landlord to clear stuff like this up. This is the same landlord that didn’t pave our driveway when he paved everybody else’s and whose guys, when they came to clear the snow out of our drive gouged a big hole that promptly filled up with water and was big enough to lose my car in.

Anyway, on to the next site.

This is across the main road, the road one turns off to get to our house. You can see the tree just broke in two and the top half came down into the fence, this is also where the power lines are, as you can see. This tree is also still there. When they come to remove this tree, which will have to be done, and I think the power company is the one who will do it, they will have to shut off power to these lines. Which means, no power for us. Hopefully it will be when it is a warmer and we will have advance warning.

You can see, besides being a hazard to the power lines, it is also blocking the sidewalk. I was going to post more pictures, but I think this is enough.
