>I just checked my Library Thing account and I am getting another book to review. Echoes from the Dead by Johan Theorin, it’s about a child that goes missing and sounds spooky, creepy good.

From Publishers Weekly

Set predominantly on the Baltic island of Öland, Theorin’s deeply disturbing debut will remind many of Henning Mankell both in its thematic intensity and dark tone. Two decades after the unsolved disappearance of a young boy, Jens Davidsson, who vanished one foggy autumn afternoon in 1972 and was presumed to have drowned, Jens’s grandfather, Gerlof, a retired sea captain, receives one of Jens’s sandals in the mail. Gerlof enlists his alcoholic daughter, Julia, who’s still struggling to come to grips with the loss of her only child, to help solve the mystery. All leads point to infamous thug Nils Kant, who was rumored to have killed numerous people. But Kant allegedly died years before the fateful day that Jens disappeared, so who could’ve killed the boy? And why? Further investigation leads the unlikely sleuths to some startling revelations about their isolated island community and its much-storied history.

>to today, I was so sick. I didn’t think I had drank that much but this morning I woke at 5:00 a.m. and my mouth was dry and my head was pounding. I got up, drank a couple glasses of water and took some Tylenol®, I then laid back down. Well, I was soon back up and throwing up. Until almost 8:00 a.m. I remember lying on the bed and thinking, I have to get better, how else will the car get back to Region 2? Obviously I survived, although I was positive for a while I wouldn’t make it.

This was what my car looked like when I walked out to it. Of course there was no scrapper or snow brush in it. A couple of guys that were in the same conference helped me out with cleaning off the car. Coming home I made excellent time. I didn’t get lost and I didn’t make any stops. Then everyone here was feeling crummy so nobody did anything. I think maybe I wasn’t hung over this morning because my tummy is still kind of unhappy. I have to go take my contacts out. Then I think I will make some tea and drink my tea and read some blogs.

Lake Placid

1294lakeplacid081028They have internet (WiFi) in the rooms here. Good thing because I can’t get a signal in the room we are having our training in. Training is over for today, dinner is in 15 minutes so I will have to go and come back later. I just opened the door to my ‘balcony’ its about a foot wide, and took this picture. Yes, its real snow.

So I am back now, and if you knew what time it was or how much I had to drink, you would be saying, go to bed girl! I think this classifies as drunk blogging. We played this game after dinner, then a bunch of us went to a bar, then another bar, cause the first bar closed. The first bar had a beer called Just Hutched (the brewers name is Hutch and he just got married) and it had lavender in it. I just put on my lavender lotion and it is making me think of it. Now it is 1 a.m. and I just got out of the bath and my head is somewhere else, but not on my shoulders I am sure. It is too hot in this room. I know that for sure.

I was going to say that this morning the sky went from black, (and raining) to gray (and raining) then it was ta da! White, and snowing. Then when I got to where the training was it was back to gray. I saw the ski jumps where the Olympians train, tomorrow I am going to try to get a picture of them. I also want to get some pictres of Lake Placid. So far the only souvenir I have is a token from the bar we went to. And I only have that because Brian bought me my second beer.

It was an almost perfect day,

yesterday when Em and I went to the city. I almost started this post, I hate migraines! That was my first thought when I got out of bed and nearly fell on my head. But then thought the people who wanted to read about my day in NYC wouldn’t read it, that was the only thing that marred yesterday, and it started on the way home, there were probably a few things that contributed to it. I was glad Tigger had a Topamax I could take because I am sure I would not be feeling human now if I hadn’t had it.

So first thing when I got back from getting my car and saw Em in her gorgeous new purple sweater looking smokin’ HOT I knew I had to wear my new red sweater. I made sure to be super careful with my makeup, I also knew that there was no way my pale lipstick was going to cut it. I told her, first thing we do, is stop at the make-up store in GCT so I can get some RED lipstick.

DSCN0479We left from the train station and that was where the first weird, funny, coincidental thing happened. As we were pulling in to park, Em saw one of the students from school, it is one of the ones that Em calls ‘her kids’ that calls Em one of her other mothers, Em tutors her in P.I.G. Em said she can’t be going down to the city. Then as we were waiting for the train, Em’s cell phone goes off. She was mad, saying which one of my kids . . . It was this girl, she was waiting for the train too! She was going to see her boyfriend in Yonkers. So she sat behind us and talked to us and took a picture of her and Em and sent it to Tigger with a note, I’m on the train with your mom and you’re not!

We didn’t get red lipstick first thing, we went to the bathroom first thing. That when I discovered something that had the potential to ruin our day. I asked Em if she realized how stupid her friend was. Being the accommodating understanding BFF that she is, she asked how stupid? “You know your friend who takes little pills so she knows when her period is coming, then doesn’t make sure she has the supplies she needs?” Yep, the girl thing attack. However, even though my panties were stained, I didn’t really start flowing until last night, after I went to bed.

redlipstickSo then we went to the make-up store so I could get red lipstick. At first we couldn’t find any, all the reds were too dark, or too pink, or too brown, or a color that we thought should have been red wasn’t! I finally found one, and the name of the color had been torn off! So the sales clerk had to look through all the lipsticks until he found it, and he did. So here is my ‘Absolute Rouge’ lipstick, and it looks fabulous on. Something really cool about the tube of lipstick, the cap and base have magnets, so they click together and hold tight. Em got some really pretty eyeshadow too. I want some new eyeshadow, but I want to wait until I get my makeup done so I can get a color that I know looks good on me.

anntaylorhlcream2Then we started for Central Park. Central Park was our destination all along. Em wanted to go to the park. Why? I dunno, I’m just her BFF and go with the flow. We were also looking for jackets for us. Neither of us liked our current jackets so we both were looking for something not too heavy and the right color, for Em, that means black, purple, or red. For me, red, ivory or blue. Well, all we could find were too heavy, too expensive or for me wool, which I can’t wear. Along the way we stopped in Ann Taylor, which had some very nice jackets, but none suitable for what we wanted and I bought some very nice feeling and smelling body cream. We finally found something at the Gap, Em got a quilted down vest and I got a denim jacket. I love denim jackets and this was just your typical denim jacket that you wear for years.

This was not the end of our day, but I am getting very tired, so I will finish tomorrow. Like I said, if I hadn’t got that stupid migraine, I would have been up today and able to tell you everything.

Happy Third Friday to me from Bella

>Tuesday Thingers

>This is the first time that I’ve participated in the Tuesday Thingers weekly question. Marie from The Boston Bibliophile hosts this fun meme.

Today’s question: Early Reviewers- do you participate? How many books (approximately) have you received through the program? Have you liked them generally? What’s your favorite ER book? Do you participate in the discussion group on LT?

I joined Early Reviewers in August of this year and got a book the first time out. I have just finished it and have not as yet written my review but will be before the weekend. I liked this book ‘Hell Bent’ by William G. Tapply but since I have only got one book I can’t answer the favorite question. I don’t usually participate in the discussion group.

>I have a question for you.

>Today is a holiday for school children and civil service employees (ME!). Tigger was wearing the same dirty shirt and shorts he had on yesterday. When I commented about them he said, “So, I’m not going anywhere.” Now I have been known to wear clothes more than once, but only if they didn’t get dirty. These clothes he had on were filthy! He’s not a little kid, he’s a junior in High School! Is this normal? I don’t remember being like that when I was in school, then again I am a girl, (always have been too!) so maybe that is why.

Time to go to Allsport, I have my workout clothes on and just have to check things out upstairs before I go. I am taking my camera because I want to take some pictures of leaves while I am out and about.

Still haven’t gone yet. Em wanted to go at 4:00 so I am waiting for her. I did go to get some leaf pictures but where I went there were plenty of leaves, but no place to pull over. There is still the tree by the vet’s office. I may make a quick trip there.

Gwen took pictures of the things she wants to sell so I have to post them tonight along with the dolls, that I keep putting off. Well I’m off, again!

>Discoveries while cleaning

>Yesterday I told you had to move stuff from the rolling cart. I enlisted Gwen’s help. I decided not to just move stuff but to also throw out stuff I didn’t need. In the bottom I found a backpack full of yarn along with a started afghan or blanket whichever you want to call it. I think there is a difference but I don’t know what it is.

The backpack was moldy so I had to throw it out. Fortunately the backpack had a plastic lining and the yarn was in plastic bags so it was O.K. After we got down with the cleaning and everything Gwen and I went out. I took her to the bank to cash her paycheck then we went to the mall, got lunch, got ice cream and I got some containers to put the yarn from the backpack in.

I thought one would be big enough, but to be on the safe side I got two, so now all the yarn in my computer room that was hanging in bags is in a nice plastic container. I have no idea where the pattern is that I was using for the afghan, I don’t even remember what book it was in, so I just made up a pattern out of my head, I just started it on what was already done, so it looks kind of weird, but I am writing it down so I can recreate it. Then last night when everyone was at the movie about the windshield wiper guy, I stayed home and knitted.

Today after church I wanted to go to Allsport, I also wanted to take pictures of leaves, but I really didn’t feel up to it. Then I remembered that tomorrow is a holiday, so I can do all that tomorrow. Maybe instead of driving around, I will take a walk and take pictures.

Pictures from homecoming

I picked these four photos to post. I was trying to post on WW about them and two times I got an error message. Now the page just won’t load. I am going to have some dinner then I will be back.

This first photo is the bleachers in the football field. Of course this field is used for more than just football, there is a track around the field. A few years back the Empire State Games were held here. The kids were able to volunteer for support services for them so that was a good experience for them.

Somebody brought their cute little long haired dachshund to the parade. I don’t know if it is a boy or girl, but the curly hair on the ears make me think its a girl. She looks like she is waiting for someone. She was very well behaved, didn’t jump around or bark or pull on her leash. Another reason I think she is a girl. She was so cute I just had to take her picture.

Here is the marching band, they are having to wait for traffic to clear, this is where Verplanck Ave, Cannon St., and N Cedar St. meet before you get to the football field. It used to be the police would put a car at N. Walnut and Verplanck to block traffic, but the past few years they haven’t done that. This year a big truck parked facing the wrong way on Verplanck so the band and rest of the parade could get into the football field.

And who is this? Could this be who Ms. Dachshund is waiting for? This is definitely a boy and you can tell by his blue shirt that he is a BEACON BULLDOG!

Now if you want to see all the pictures I took, there are not that many of them, look at the sidebar to the right, I put in a slideshow, next week I will move it down below the Manhattan one.

>Fred was in the parade I took some pics and a couple of videos. In one, I keep pointing the camera at the ground. The reason is I wasn’t sure the camera was recording and so I turned it down to look at the back. Now I am going to try to insert the videos. Looks like they worked! To avoid confusion, I am going to post the pictures in a separate post. The one to watch for is the short blond kid with sunglasses playing the clarinet. The voice at the end of the video is Stitch.

Here is the band starting off, you can’t see Fred, he was on the other side of the street.
