>a funny thing happened

>yesterday morning. I was at the train station as per usual, the train pulled in and we all crowded around the doors waiting for them to open, and waiting, and waiting. In a kind of half whisper voice I said: ‘Do we have to say the magic word?’ Then the doors opened. I have power! Or at least it felt like it for a moment. All the others (the ones that heard me that is) laughed. Timing is everything.

Once again I cannot access Facebook from my phone. It is not an internet problem as you can see, I got to my e-mail just fine. However, as I am falling asleep, I will end this.

>I added pages, and have no idea what they are about. So I am just playing around with my blog. I have to post for Saturday, Em, Tigger, Fred and I went to the city, Fred hit Tigger with an ice ball when we were at Central Park and cut up his eye. Still waiting to see if there will be blood involved in his revenge.

We had more snow fall after that trip. Driving through town it was like a winter wonderland. It was wet snow and it stuck to everything.

>Snow in the city and when I left the subway station there was ice all over the sidewalk. You would think they would do a better job of clearing the sidewalk considering how many people walk down it. What am I saying? This is Queens.

The stupidity is my own, I put my soda in the freezer to get it cold so I could have it with my breakfast, and forgot about it. Anybody want a diet pepsi Popsicle?

>Friday with a friend

>My old boss Gary (not his real name) sent me an e-mail. Actually, he had mentioned getting together again the last time we had lunch, so the e-mail was to tell me he couldn’t make it the day he suggested. He wanted to go the next Friday since it was Restaurant Week in NYC.

That didn’t work out either, however I noticed the website said some restaurants were extending the week to the end of the month. The restaurant I wanted to go to was Angelo & Maxie’s Steakhouse on Park Ave South at 19th Street which I had never been to, but I have been to Maxie’s Grill around the corner. I called them and I was told, “Yes the Restaurant week prices are in effect for the whole month.” So I made a reservation for last Friday, the 12th, for Gary and me. In case you don’t know what Restaurant Week is, twice a year restaurants offer three-course, prix-fixe meals for $24.07 for lunch, $35 for dinner. The first week in February is one of the times it is offered.

The first course was a choice of House or Caesar Salad or Soup of the Day. Gary had the House Salad and I had Split Pea Soup. The salad was huge, and I got a full bowl of soup. I hadn’t finished it by the time the second course got there. Second course was choice of Grilled Filet Mignon (au poivre or béarnaise available)
Charbroiled New York Sirloin Steak
1 ½ pound Herb-Roasted Chicken
Broiled Salmon over Fresh Sautéed Vegetables

Gary got the NY Strip and I got the Filet Mignon with nothing on it. It was cooked to perfection and oh so tender. I ate every bite. Dessert was a choice of Cheesecake, Ice cream or Fresh Fruit. I got the Cheesecake, Gary got the Fresh Fruit, I think, to tell the truth, I was at the end of my very large Makers Mark Manhattan and he could have gotten just about anything and I wouldn’t have noticed. Anyway, the cheesecake was a chocolate marbled cheesecake and drizzled with raspberry sauce. It was also very delicious. And the service was impeccable, our server was pleasant, we were not ignored at any time during the meal. We got a basket of bread at almost the instant we sat down, someone came by to take our drink order even before the server got to us, dishes were picked up when done, crumbs were swept off the table when they took the dishes.

When we left Gary wanted to walk up Madison because, that’s where all the bars are. We found two right away, the first one I don’t remember the name, I do remember it is over a hundred years old and the barmaid was Irish. They also had Rugby jerseys up on the wall and Arkansas Razerback stuff. Quite interesting. The other bar is pictured here, I have more pictures in my slideshow in my sidebar, including the ‘country’ decor and an old railroad train car(I think that is what it was). We ended our trip at the Mexican place in GCT where Gary had his usual margarita and I had my Kahlúa and cream.

>Hey mister, hey MISTER!

>That is a drop off zone, technically its not even that, but people use it as one. That being said, you are supposed to drop off your passenger and leave, not sit there for a half hour telling your girl how much you love her while other people (me) have to navigate around your car. You love her that much buy her rubies for Valentine’s day!

I’m a hopeless romantic.

>anyway

>MetroNorth is back on their regular schedule today. They definitely know how to operate in the frozen north. The most trouble I had getting to work was the ice on the sidewalk between the subway stop and the office and the ice in the parking lot – slip sliding away -.

That is not to say I had a good start to my day. I overslept so I missed my train, have a wicked headache, guy next to me on the train dropped something (no idea what) on my leg and the last thing, I got to work at 8:10, my boss was already in and when he came out of his office at 8:15 he said ‘Good afternoon’. Way to piss me off! Total shit.

On the plus side, I do know some nice guys, one reminded me about pitcher & catchers & spring training, the other one agreed that ‘men are pretty much dogs’. Yeah but some are lovable dogs.

>Snowy Wednesday

>today was my regular Wednesday off, where my favorite thing to do is stay in bed as long as I possibly can. So that is what I was doing, until there was a knock on my door. Tigger has sold something else and wanted me to take him to the guy who bought it to get the money. Now it wasn’t super early but it was before I wanted to get up.

So I got up, got dressed, put on my face (well sort of) and went out to the car, I started to brush snow off the door and he and Fred came running up, Tigger said, “Don’t bother because the roads are bad and just getting worse so we are going to wait.” Until when? Until the roads are worse? No until Saturday, so I went back in the house, but I was up and now I was in a bad mood. As I looked at my bed and decided that I really couldn’t go back to bed, face on and contacts in, so I decided to go get an egg sandwich for breakfast. I left through the basement so no one would see me but . . .

“Where are you going? Can we come with you?” So I ended up with company for breakfast and was buying two egg sandwiches and a bagel, one latte and one coffee (for Fred, with hazelnut syrup and milk and vanilla powder) instead of breakfast for one. The roads were clear, the road crews were keeping up with the snow after all. So instead of going home we went to Target, I still hadn’t gotten WD-40 and the boys didn’t really want to go home.

At Target they wanted to look at computer games, on the way to the games they saw the long underwear and wanted some, they were on sale so I said O.K. I said no to the game. Then I picked up a flash drive, when Tigger saw it, he said there were 4 gig at BestBuy for less, so I sent him and Fred there while I paid for the stuff at Target and put it in the car. The flash drive was actually more, but it is cuter and purple! Then we came home and as we walked in the door I realized I still hadn’t bought WD-40. **Heavy sigh**

was on Saturday, 30 January 2010. I promised myself to blog about it the next day. Well since the promise was only to myself … not like the promise to Mickie to give her a post of her own, … Mickie will have to wait a little longer I am afraid.

It was so cold Saturday, do you want to know how cold? I’ll tell you, it was so cold I wore my tights and my long underwear, and I was still cold! Em had her nail appointment that she refuses to miss so we went.

While she went for her appointment I went to the library, I got my card activated so I could go online. Of course by the time I got around to doing it, she was done with her appointment. But now for her next appointment I can go to the library and go online (not that I’m addicted or obsessive or anything). In fact I visited the library Tuesday before my doctor’s appointment since my internet connection at home was down. (It is fixed now.) Our network administrator (Dad) fixed it. So the first thing I learned Saturday was that even if your NYC Public Library sits in your purse for two years you can still get it activated.

We met for lunch at the Moonlight Diner. Then we walked from the diner to the New York Historical Society. It was very cold. Did I tell you how cold it was? It was so cold, I wore my leather mittens instead of my hand warmers. At the New York Historical Society there is a special exhibit of Lincoln right now, and there were men dressed in Union Soldier uniforms. One of them told me that Mr. Lincoln was always accepting volunteers and there was no height requirement! Tempting as it was …

Next was Central Park, where I took this picture. Can you see what I was trying get, almost in the center of the picture there is something you might think you wouldn’t see in Central Park in the middle of New York City. Can’t tell what it is? What if we get a little closer?

Now can you see? No it is not a dog, it is a coyote. Really! Em and I were walking along and she turned to me and asked, “What is a coyote doing in Central Park?” Now to tell the truth, Em does not read the papers. Since I work for the Conservation Department, I know more about these things so she always asks me. So I told her. “It lives here.” As we watched, it ran into the trees because there was some garbage there. Then it kept going around the pond and I was able to get this picture. Kind of neat huh?

Em wanted to go to Sephora so we went to the one in Columbus Circle. She had seen some glittery nail polish at the one on 42nd but they didn’t have any for sale. So she wanted to see if this Sephora had it and they did. Then we decided to head back to Grand Central Terminal. It was very cold. Did I tell you how cold it was? It was so cold, Em wanted to take the subway instead of walk. We went to get on the subway in Columbus Circle. I was confident it would be a snap since my dermatologist is near Columbus Circle and I have taken the subway to and from there. We needed the 1 train, so we followed the signs right up to the caution tape across the stairs up to the train platform. Next to the stairs was the elevator, when the doors opened to the platform where the 1 train stopped, more yellow caution tape. So we went back down and I got my map out (you know the one where I have to wear my reading glasses to see, grrr) and learned something else, the D train goes from Columbus Circle to Bryant Park. So easy! Then we just walked from Bryant Park to Annie Moore’s. So it was a fun day, but it was very cold. Did I tell you how cold it was? It was so cold
