>Good night.

>I am just making a quick post before I hit the sack. I spent a lot of time online today. Mostly on my book sites updating my libraries. Of course they are virtual libraries. List of books I want to read I have 395 on Shelfari and 385 on LibraryThing. Only 212 are to be read.

I requested a couple of books from the library one is for a Shelfari discussion group and I don’t remember the other.

Other than that, Gwen and I had a good time at the meeting. We got to talk to friends we rarely see and after we went to Panera for lunch. We each got one of the two things, right now I can’t remember what they are called, soup and half sandwich, different soup and different sandwich. We were thinking we could continue our fun at home, but D was home. So we just went to our rooms. I have only been back upstairs to have dinner, I was going to watch L&O:CI but D wanted the news on. So I have been watching TV in the basement and working on my computer.

>On a foggy September day in 1970, six-year-old Jens Davidsson leaves his house, climbs over a wall and disappears. Popular opinion is that he wandered down to the sea and drowned. This opinion is not shared by the boy’s mother and grandfather, each for their own reasons. 20 years later, it appears that they were right when the grandfather receives a package in the mail, a package that contains a little boy’s sandal.

The novel moves from present to past, telling us the history of a man some suspect as the killer and some believe has been dead at least 10 years before the boy disappeared. As the grandfather gets closer to the truth of what happened, his daughter renews her relationship with him, comes to grips with the disappearance of her son and both discover that some people are not at all what they appear to be.

The pace of this novel is good, a good foundation is laid with the characters and in true suspense thriller fashion, the ending is a twist.

>Should be in bed

>I watched the James Bond movie I borrowed. It was due Monday so now I have to pay a fine. The name of the movie is Casino Royale. I read more in my LibraryThing book on the train. And after the movie I finished Club Dead. I think I have them out of my system so I can read something else now.

Two only in New York moments, when I was walking to the subway, there was this girl/woman, wearing a black and white plaid coat, she was holding the color against her face to protect it from the wind, with gray pinstripe pants and pointy black heels, here is the New York minute, she was running across a 4 lane road in those heels! And here is the other NY minute, only in New York could it be too warm for a jacket, and the very next day, be too cold for the very same jacket!

>Training Today blech

>We had training today and it was blech, except for the desire to strangle Dilip whenever he opened his mouth. I was trying to listen to the instructor and he just wouldn’t shut up! I resisted of course cause I am here and not in custody. But soon I need to leave, actually, I should have already left. I just wanted to get this sent.

I have taken another step toward my move, I got a cell phone with the area code of where I am moving. I took my old phone and got some minutes on it and when you go online, you can get the area code of where you will be using the phone, so that’s what I did. I gave Em the number and she has been sending me text messages to the new number today because I was not at my computer all day.

Well, it is past time for me to be on my way. I am planning on working out tonight so I will be back when I am done. Oh one more thing, I finished The Scandal of the Season, it was O.K., just not my cuppa. The library sent me an e-mail that Dewey by Vicki Myron was in so I am going to stop to pick it up on my way home. It is not next on my list to read, next I am reading Double Bind, I have to read them quick so I can return them on time. I also just requested Casino Royale from the library because Sarah was talking about James Bond on her blog, so now I feel compelled to check out Daniel Craig as Bond.

I ended up not going to Allsport, I know I should have, but my throat is all filled up with crud and I just couldn’t work up the energy to. Tigger wanted some Spree, which I told him I would go out and get when I went to Allsport, since I didn’t go I had to think of something else. I went instead to get gas and it was $2.99 a gallon! I was so excited, I never thought that I would think of $2.99 for a gallon of gas a cheap price!

We got e-mails for our training in Lake Placid so I put the address of the hotel in my GPS tonight. Now I have to make sure to remember to check the car I get to be sure the cigarette lighter works.

>Tuesday Thingers

>Marie from The Boston Bibliophile hosts this fun meme.

Today’s question: Series. Do you collect any series? Do you read series books? Fantasy? Mystery? Science fiction? Religious? Other genre? Do you use the series feature in LT to help you find new books or figure out what you might be missing from a series?

In order, Yes, Yes, No, Yes, Yes, No, Yes. I collect Ann Rule, although I don’t know if you could call that a true series since she writes true crime, but her collections of short stories are numbered. I have read series books ever since I can remember. In school it was all the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys, and I think I read them in order, and a series of books that were young people biographies (probably why I read memoirs today), most recently it was Peter Robinson’s series of Inspector Banks books. I don’t read fantasy as a rule or religious, I like mystery, some science fiction and historical fiction. I did not know about the series feature in LT, I usually go to FantasticFiction or my library website has that information.

>All I wanna do

>I had a cheryl crow earworm this morning. That’s what happens when I read random G.D.T. threads in the morning. I was up way to late last night and I didn’t even get anything done. Tigger has the baby assignment, kind of funny his partner is a boy. Em says, “Tigger and KM adopted twins.” two each two pound bags of rice.

I changed my purse and I forgot to put my ID in the purse I brought today. I feel bad cause I like this purse better then the expensive EB one I bought. I just need to get the black one for winter.

Stitch has my car today, normally he doesn’t so I don’t know what is going to happen tonight, if I will have to get Gwen or if I can go to Allsport. I feel like I haven’t been in forever and really need to go.

My sniffles have morphed into a real cold and I am getting a head pressure feeling. I really should go now. I think I have said everything I need to say.

I finished reading Hell Bent by William G. Tapply and have posted a review on Shelfari and LibraryThing. You can click here to go to my review on LibraryThing. I do not want to post it here since it is a fairly long review but I enjoyed the book. I don’t feel like running out and getting more Brady Coyne Novels, but it was an enjoyable read.

>Just finished lunch

>instead of my usual I got a panini. It was good but I have a feeling I will regret it.

I don’t know why I didn’t say this last night but D forgot to come get me last night. I started walking, then decided walking home cause I was mad was not a good use of my time so I called him. Now he says to send him a text to remind him when he is supposed to come get me. Then later he says something like, if you are still seriously thinking about moving to … Still! I’ve only been thinking about it for three years! He was thinking about using my room for an office, he also offered to make me a futon which would be nice but might be unnecessary. Some of the apartments have murphy beds.

I was right about the nessi pot, she was talking about a ‘neti’ pot.

As expected I now have a stomach ache and I had to use my inhaler. Probably from the mustard, or maybe because the panini I had was next to the tuna panini, might have been some cross contamination going on there.Anyway my legs are shaking and I am having chills from the albuteral. This is what I should think of when I want somthing I shouldn’t have, how icky I feel after, even getting my fingers to work on this keyboard is hard. Ok, gotta go now.

This evening has not improved my mood. I wanted to leave early but I had to do something for the boss and it took me until 4:20. Then when I was at the subway, the subway that came in was packed! I was trying to get in and people kept bumping and pushing me, so I just stepped back, I was a little miffed. My claustrophobia had gotten the better of me. It turned out ok, the next train got in a minute after and not only was it not crowded, there were seats available! So I got to sit to GCT.

On the Metro North train I was also able to find a seat facing forward. This woman came to sit with me and she was ugh, bigger than Em. Then she fell asleep and started leaning toward me, soon she was not really leaning on me, but touching. I did not get any reading done.

I had to go get Gwen so no Allsport tonight. I could have gone if I rushed, but after all that happened today and Em asked me to put the food away so I didn’t just went up to get Gwen. Then she fell getting in the car! Then she started sniffing. She never said anything, but I think she sort of blamed me. Anyway, I just have to take a shower and then this day will be over.

>I decided

>I started reading Sleep No More by Greg Iles. It is not the type of book that I would normally read, and after Mortal Fear, I wasn’t sure I would like it. So far I do and I will continue to read it, but I am not sure if I will finish it. I might even get more books by him. Not buy, but borrow from the library.

That reminds me, I need to check the Queens library to see if my other book is in. They haven’t fixed my e-mail address so I am not getting notifications from them when my books come in.

I was just reading one of the blogs I follow and she had a story about a dead snake in a classroom and the teacher told the student to put it in the outside trash can. Someone commented she was getting Americanized because she should have said dust bin. It reminded me of when I made a carrot cake for Tom and it didn’t turn out. I told someone about the cake and she asked me, was any of it salvageable, I remember I said, “No, it went straight into the dust bin.” She looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. I have no idea why I said that since I’m not British, maybe I had been watching BBC America the night before.

One more thing before I go, I think a skunk has taken refuge under our back deck, I heard some noises earlier, it is raining now and there is a terrible smell coming in my window, smell like wet skunk.

>Here’s an easy challenge!

>Check out this challenge! It’s at MyFriendAmy’ blog and it challenges us to get a nonreader to read and us already readers to read more! Here are Amy’s ROE!

It’s called the Read One Book Challenge.

Here are the rules.

1) Read one book you have never read before by December 31st, 2008.

2) This book must not be a children’s book that you are reading to your kids. It must be a book for you.

3) This book may not be part of work related research. This book is for you.

4) It can be fiction or nonfiction.

5) Please leave a comment telling me you’re joining in and write a post linking back to this post to invite others to join in as well (if you have a blog, if not just leave a comment!).

6) For bonus points, spend an evening at a Barnes and Noble, Borders, or local independent bookshop browsing through books. (apparently there’s a huge percentage of people who don’t go to bookstores, either)

7) When you’ve completed your book write a post about it and I’ll link to it here!

If you are like Amy and read 2-4 books a week, please still join in though you’ll probably complete the challenge a lot faster than others. One ten dollar Amazon gift card will be awarded through random drawing to a person who signs up and completes the challenge on time.

So get thee over and sign up!!

>I know I have mentioned this before, I keep hoping that if I keep saying it, it will eventually sink into my little pea brain, 15 minutes is not enough time to pee, put in my contacts, wash my face, brush my teeth, get dressed and put on my makeup. Oh and if you have an extra 5 minutes, that is not enough time to go online or clean the litter box! Sorry Butterscotch.

And the day did not get any better. The train was late leaving GCT, by about 40 minutes! Oy. And today is one of the days that Stitch takes my car so I had to call Em to not come get me because the train was late but she didn’t get the call until she was at the train station. Anyway, I did not go to the meeting tonight, Tigger didn’t either, he wasn’t feeling well. It didn’t stop him from eating two bowls of Tootsie Rolls though. And I finally got my songs. I took my MP3 player upstairs and downloaded them from the computer. He would never have sent them. I didn’t sign the computer out of the Amazon account, I need to do that next.

The delay was O.K. in one sense, though, I finished reading The Devil’s Right Hand Man.

Now I have to decide which one of three books I have I will read next.
