>Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa P. Jackson visited Kansas today to mark the kickoff of the Obama Administration’s “United We Serve” initiative. Administrator Jackson joined local students to monitor and help clean up the Missouri and Kansas Rivers at Kaw Point Park in Kansas. Students tested mercury levels in fish, measured water quality and used boats to pick up trash along the Rivers’ banks.
United We Serve is President Obama’s summer service initiative. It is a call to all Americans to join a volunteer effort this summer and be part of building a new foundation for America, one community at a time. United We Serve officially starts Monday, June 22, and runs through the National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11th.
A new national web site for United We Serve (www.serve.gov) lists thousands of opportunities to get involved. There are many ways to get involved including through Adopt Your Watershed where you can work for clean water by joining with local organizations to monitor water quality, restore habitat, build rain gardens, plant trees, or clean up debris.
Visit www.serve.gov to find volunteer opportunities in your area, and choose the one that best suits your interests. More information on EPA’s three service programs visit www.epa.gov.

I often run across blogs while I’m at work that I find interesting and want to save, unfortuanately I don’t want to save them to my work computer. Normally I just e-mail them to myself. Then I thought, maybe I should share them.
So I am starting a new feature on my blog, its going to be called “Check out this blog”. I don’t know how often it will be. After all, my boss expects me to work sometimes. The things I have to do to stay employed. SIGH. Here is the first one.
>You may have noticed that even though I am doing the “~ On This Day ~” feature still, it looks a little different. The reason for that is I used to get an e-mail from the New York Times with headlines and the “~ On This Day ~” snippet with a link. For some reason, I’m not getting that anymore. Also I can’t find the link to in on NY Times home page. I tried going on the website and resubscribing to the e-mail, but I can’t find where to do that either. So, since I don’t have time to go looking up interesting headlines to include, until I get this resolved, I am just going to do the “~ On This Day ~” with no other headlines and the link will not always be there, although I will try to include it.

Ed McMahon, America’s Top Second Banana, Dies at 86
Ed McMahon, who for nearly 30 years was Johnny Carson’s affable sidekick on “The Tonight Show,” introducing it with his ringing trademark call, “Heeeere’s Johnny!,” died on Tuesday in Los Angeles, NBC reported, citing his spokesman, Howard Bragman. Mr. McMahon was 86.

>Last Friday we went to see The Fray, Jack’s Mannequin also performed. It was a good show, with a cute bald guy in tight pants. He was one of the lead singers, and the pianist. It was in NJ, the other option was Connecticut. We got home at 1 or 2 a.m. I can’t remember.

>In response to an e-mail I received from a reader, I have adjusted the background of my blog. I didn’t want to change it, cause I really like it. So I just moved the sides out. The person said, because of the colors, he/she couldn’t read my posts, they had to paste them into notepad. I also darkened the text so that should help with readability.
It is my blog, and I can use whatever background I want, but if people want to read it, I don’t want to discourage them.
So now I have to go to bed, tomorrow I hope to be more awake and less rushed.
